Chapter 6
She Said Yes
"So a little birdie came and told me a little secret." Tony said to Madison the next night before their show.
"That would be?" Madison asked as she tuned her guitar.
"Nick is going to be here."
Madison looked up at Tony wide eyed. "Are you shitting me?"
Tony started laughing. "I shit you not girl."
"You’ve got to be joking?" Jake asked as he walked into the room.
"What?" Tony asked putting a hand on his hip.
"Nick Carter is going to be at our show tonight?"
Tony grinned as he nodded and then giggled a little.
"Yo, what is up with the fucking giggling?" Jake asked as he sat down by Madison.
"I like the boy, duh!" Tony replied giving Jake a ‘duh’ look.
Jake just shook his head and rolled his eyes while Madison laughed.
"You look nice tonight Madison." Jake said as he put his arm on the back of the couch.
Madison looked over at him, "Shut up."
"What?"
"Just shut up."
"I’m being serious you look hot."
"Stop." Madison replied as she pointed at him.
"Fine." He said putting his hands up in the air defensively.
"I’m so excited, what if Nick is really going to be here. I’ll be so nervous." Tony rambled on.
Madison and Jake both rolled their eyes and laughed at Tony.
"You ready?" Shane asked Madison as she stood backstage looking out at the crowd, waiting to go on.
"Yeah." She replied as she scanned the crowd.
"Looking for someone?"
Madison looked at Shane. "No." She replied waving her hand in the air.
"Sure." Shane said as he started to laugh and then walked off.
Madison turned around and watched him walk off and then turned back around scanning the crowd again.
"Come on girlie it’s time to go rock." Tony said a few minutes later from behind Madison.
She turned around and looked at him and immediately starting laughing hysterically. "What are you wearing?" She asked looked at him in a skin tight Nick Carter shirt.
Tony looked down at his shirt and back up at Madison. "What? I got it at the concert."
"Oh my god." Madison muttered as she walked past him to the stage.
"What?" Tony asked as he looked around and then followed Madison to the stage.
"Damn, look at what she’s wearing." Mike said as Nick and he sat in the VIP area of the club watching them perform.
"She’s beautiful." Nick said as he stared at her.
"And she can play the guitar and she looks hot doing it."
Nick just nodded as he continued to stare at her.
Mike looked over at him. "You sweet on her or something? I’m confused."
Nick looked back over at Mike. "What?"
"You like her or something or what?"
Nick just shrugged and went back to watching her.
"She’s growing on you huh?"
"No." Nick said and shook his head.
"Sure."
"No, I just think she’s cute."
"Yeah, and she’s getting to you."
"No… no… no way man." Nick said as he gave Mike a dirty look.
Mike just grinned as he leaned back in his chair crossing his arms.
Madison looked back at Shane waiting for him to start the next song. He started to hit the drums in a slow steady beat. Madison smiled at him and turned back around as her and Shane started to play the guitar lightly.
Madison took a deep breath and closed her eyes as she began to sing.
I can remember
The very first time I cried
How I wiped my eyes
And buried the pain inside
All of my memories
Good and bad that's passed
Didn't even take the time to realize
Staring at the cracks in the walls
Cause I'm waiting for it all
To come to an end
Still I curl up
Right under the bed
Cause it's taking over my head
All over again
She opened her eyes and looked over to Tony as he started to the first part of the chorus.
Do you even know who you are?
I guess I'm trying to find
A borrowed dream or a superstar?
I want to be a star
Is life good to you or is it bad?
I can't tell anymore
Do you even know what you have?
After switching every other line, Tony finished the chorus and Madison started the next verse.
Lying awake
Watching the sunlight
How the birds will sing
As I count the rings around my eyes
Constantly pushing
The world I know aside
I don't even feel the pain
I don't even want to try
I'm looking for a way to become
The person I dreamt up when I was 16
Nothing is ever enough
Baby it ain't enough
Or what it may seem
Nick stared at Madison in complete awe, the way she put so much emotion into the song was just amazing, and he was impressed. And this song was definitely different from their other songs.
They repeated the chorus and then Tony began to sing the end of the song as he looked over at Madison.
Sorry girl tell a tale for me
Cause I'm wondering
How you really feel
Madison looked over at Tony and then back out at the crowd and she looked up to the VIP area for the first time that night to see Nick staring at her as she sang the last part of that verse.
I'm a lonely girl
I'll tell a tale for you
Cause I'm just trying to make
All my dreams come true
After repeating the chorus one more time, they finished the show and walked off as the crowd began to clap and scream.
"God, I’m sweating like a pig." Madison said as she sat down on the couch in the dressing room waving her hands around her face and then to her armpits.
"You should wear fewer clothes then." Jake said grinning at her.
"I’m not even going there Jake." Madison said giving him a dirty look.
"Ok fine." Jake replied as he walked out of the room.
"Did you see Nick? I think he saw me and my shirt and got a little freaked out." Tony said excitedly.
"Yeah I saw him, during the last song."
"Seriously? I was like flirting with him with my eyes for almost the whole night."
Madison stood up laughing and headed towards the door.
"Where you going John should be here any minute and then we have to leave for the airport?"
"I’m going to go talk to some fans, haven’t done that in a while. I need an ego boost." Madison replied smiling as she walked out of the room.
Madison made her way back into the club there were quite a few people still in there, as soon as she was spotted about a dozen fans went over to her asking for autographs.
Almost thirty minutes later the fans all left and the club was pretty much empty. Madison sat on the stage playing her guitar, pretty much just steering clear from John and the other guys she just wanted to be by herself for a while.
"How long have you been playing?"
Madison looked up and saw Nick standing in front of the stage looking up at her.
Madison smiled weakly back at him. "Almost ten years."
"Damn." Nick replied a little shocked.
"What?"
"You don’t look that old." He replied grinning.
Madison felt her cheeks grow warm again she looked down blushing and then back up at Nick. "I’m older than ten you know."
Nick laughed and said, "I figured that or at least I hoped that."
Madison laughed and shook her as she continued to play.
"So how old are you?"
"A lady never reveals her age." Madison said laughing a little.
"Oh I see how it is."
"Do you?"
Nick just nodded.
"I’m 22; I started playing when I was 12." Madison said looking at him.
Tony walked out to see Madison sitting on the stage smiling down at Nick who was in front of the stage looking up at Madison. "Madison, John’s here." Tony said immediately feeling guilty for interrupting their conversation.
Madison looked over at Tony and just nodded and then looked back at Nick.
"So I’m going to try this again."
Madison looked at Nick strangely. "What?"
"Do you want to go out on a date with me?"
Madison heard Tony giggle and she looked over at him giving her a two thumbs up. She shook her head laughing and then looked back at Nick. She stared at him for a minute and then said, "Yes."
