Chapter 29
Make Up Your Mind
Nick started to pace the bathroom as his hands rested on top of his head. "What the hell did I do last night?" He asked himself as he stopped pacing and stared at the floor trying to remember what happened last night.
Nick rolled over onto his side opening his eyes slowly. He stared at the girl lying next to him and sat up and looked around the room quickly. He lifted the covers up looking at himself and the girl and noticed they were both naked. He laid back down rubbing his hands over his face. "Fuck." He said as he got up and headed into the bathroom. "Fuck." He said a little louder as he slammed the door.
"Madison, get up we have a meeting in ten minutes." Tony said as he nudged Madison.
Madison groaned as she rolled over looking at Tony.
"Come on sleepy head get up." Tony said in a childlike voice.
"When did I stop locking the damn door?" Madison mumbled as she sat up rubbing her eyes and looking at her watch.
"When I got a key baby." Tony replied grinning.
"That’s wonderful." Madison said quietly as she took her hair out of the ponytail and then back into a tighter one.
"What’s wrong? You’ve got enough bags under eyes for a family of five to travel to Europe or something."
"Thanks Tony." Madison retorted sarcastically as she rolled her eyes at him.
"What? I didn’t mean it like that. You just look bad."
"God could you stop with the compliments I don’t think I take it anymore."
"What’s wrong?" Tony asked sincerely.
Madison sat there a minute looking around the room and then back to the door. It was inevitable Todd would walk in as soon as they started talking about something remotely close to being important.
"So?"
Madison sighed and said, "I think Nick broke up with me."
"What? Why? And how can you think he broke up with you?"
Madison shrugged, "I don’t know he said that he didn’t think it’d work out and that he might have made a mistake."
"That sounds like a break up to me."
"Not really."
Tony shook his head and asked, "What happened?"
"I don’t know, he said he had to go because something came up."
"Liar."
"How do you know?"
"Ok maybe he didn’t lie, so what else happened?"
"Well, the night before he left we were kind of fooling around and then I just got uncomfortable and I told him to stop and he got mad."
"Did you tell him you weren’t comfortable?"
Madison bit her lip and looked anywhere but Tony.
"You didn’t did you?"
"I made up a stupid excuse. I didn’t want him to think less of me or something. That I was a tease or prude. You know?"
"No I don’t know." Tony replied shaking his head at her.
"Never mind then."
"No I don’t get it why couldn’t you just say you weren’t comfortable I’m sure he would have understood."
"He didn’t."
"Because you suck at lying and making up excuses."
Madison sighed heavily as she looked down.
"I don’t know what to tell you. It wasn’t meant to be."
"Is that all you have?"
"I don’t know what to say."
"You used to know." Madison replied softly as she stood up.
"What’s that supposed to mean?"
"Nothing, just you used to care a lot more before Todd came along."
Tony started laughing and said, "So you’re jealous?"
"No, I just miss my best friend who used to care about me and give me advice when I need it most." Madison replied and walked into the bathroom slamming the door.
"You going to tell me what happened with you and the girl?"
"Mike you ask me that one more time I swear to god I will hurt you." Nick replied angrily as he stared at the TV.
"I just want to know yo, could you not handle her or something. She move to slow? Couldn’t get into her pants soon enough?"
Nick shook his head and said, "It’s not like that. I really like her."
"Then what happened?"
"I don’t know." Nick yelled as he gave Mike a dirty look.
"Wow, you like her."
"No shit I just said that."
"Then why did you break it off?"
"I didn’t break it off technically."
"Nick you left a shitty message on her voicemail and you fuck another girl that is still in your bed."
"Never mind you wouldn’t understand."
"Yeah probably not." Mike replied shrugging slightly.
"I should call her."
"Like she’d want to talk to you."
"I have to at least try." Nick said as he stood up grabbing his cell phone.
"Dude you need to make up your mind. Do you want her or not?"
Nick looked at Mike and then at his cell phone. He shrugged a little as he walked out of the room. While Mike sat on the couch shaking his head.
Madison sat Indian style in the oversized chair in the conference room of the hotel playing with the rings on her fingers as she drowned out everything John was talking about.
Madison’s cell phone started ringing bringing her back into reality. She jumped when it started to ring. She looked at John who was giving her a dirty look and then everyone else in the room. She stood up gave a half smile and walked out into the lobby of the hotel.
"Hello?" She asked leaning against the wall crossing her arms.
"Madison?"
Madison didn’t want to smile but she couldn’t help the smile that was forming when she heard his voice. "Nick."
"What’s up?" Nick asked as he paced the hallway of the hotel.
"Not much, you got me out of a boring meeting."
"Oh is it important?"
"I don’t care."
"Oh."
"So… what are you calling for?" Madison asked trying to sound like she didn’t really want to talk to him.
"Uh, I just thought I’d see what was going on. And if you got my message."
"Uh yeah I got that. It was rather weird."
"I’m sorry about that. That was a mistake."
"Really?"
"Yeah, I don’t know what I was thinking."
"You probably weren’t."
"Uh, yeah."
"It’s ok. I should be the one apologizing."
"About what?"
"That night."
"Oh."
"I really am sorry I didn’t mean for it be like that."
"Ok."
"Seriously, I’ve felt really bad."
"It’s cool."
"So are we ok?" Madison asked cautiously.
"Uh, yeah."
"Really?"
"Sure."
"Good, cause I really like you Nick."
Nick rubbed his hand on top of his head messing up his hair a little, sighing and said, "Yeah me too."
Madison grinned and bit her bottom lip so she wouldn’t start giggling and jumping up and down.
"So did you’re parents leave?"
"Yeah not soon enough though."
Nick laughed a little and said, "What about Tony and Todd still gross as ever?"
"Worse." Madison replied as John stuck his head out of the door and glared at Madison as he held up one finger, indicating she better be in that room in one minute. "Um… Nick I have to go. John is telling me to come back so I guess I’ll talk to you later."
"Yeah, call me when you get out of the meeting."
Madison smiled and said, "Alright. Bye."
"Bye."
Nick walked back into hotel room smiling a little to see the girl from last night sitting on the couch in her bra and panties next to Mike watching TV.
"Mike can I talk to you for a minute?" Nick asked as he walked over to his room.
Mike smiled at the girl and walked over to Nick’s room. "Yes dear?"
"What is she doing here?"
"Karen is watching MTV with me."
"Why?" Nick asked as he put his hands on his hips.
"Well I didn’t think you’d want her to walk out while you were on the phone with the girl even though we did hear everything you said these walls aren’t very thick. And what are you thinking? You’re back with her? You’re confusing the utter hell out of me."
"I know I’m confusing myself. This whole thing is confusing as hell."
"It’s the girl." Mike said shaking his head.
"You’re in the tabloids again girl." Shane said as him and Madison sat in her room watching TV.
"That’s nice." Madison replied as she hooked her cell phone up to charge it.
"What’s wrong now?"
"Nothing." She replied smiling sweetly at Shane.
"Oh damn." Shane said looking at one of the tabloids.
Madison looked over and asked, "What?"
"Nothing."
"Shane are you depriving me from gossip?"
"No, it’s not gossip."
"Shane." Madison whined as she tried to grab the paper.
"No."
"Tell me or show me what it is."
"It’s bad."
"Shane." Madison said getting angry.
"Fine." Shane said as he turned his head holding up the tabloid to show Madison.
Madison laid her head on the back of the couch sighing as she looked at the two big pictures of Nick kissing two different girls.
