Dune

by Frank Herbert...Has to be one of the best sci-fi books ever written. It has everything you could want: family legacy, Emperors, mutant beings, different planets, and the grounding references to "Terra". A great, uplifting story. Love it!

Dune: House Atreides

by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson...Frank Herbert's son, Brian, found the notes on this book after his father had died. The rest is history, or at least a great book! It is the prequel to Dune, and it tells the story of how Paul Muadib comes to be. As well written as the original.

Contact

by Carl Sagan...This has to be one of the best books ever. (I say that a lot, but I mean it every time.) It's the story of our first contact with other life in the Universe and how we aren't really ready. It's an epic novel, with intrigue, love, and time travel. Wonderful book!

The Great and Secret Show

by Clive Barker...This is one of two Clive Barker books I could get into. (Sorry, Clive.) It's very weird and surreal. The story of how strange creatures try to take over. Pretty good.
