Island of Nguna, Village of Utanlang and Port Vila
May 15
An early morning - the boat back to Vila leaves at 7:30!
Even though the ni-Vanuatu don't use them, we decided to break with tradition and use toothbrushes!
The Oiseau Bleu comes in closer to shore to meet our small boat.
Brendan writes his address down for Morris, Phillip's son. Morris's daughter is holding a pink balloon that I gave her the day before. She held it very carefully in her hands and somehow managed to keep it in one piece overnight!
Phillip starts up the outboard motor
Everyone waves goodbye to us from the beach
Coming up to the Oiseau Bleu
A view of the extinct volcano, the top in the clouds.
"The Great Aussie Crate, Mate". Oh those funny Aussies and their crates.
On the way back it took six hours because the Oiseau bleu is smaller and slower. The sea was VERY choppy with HUGE waves for about 45 minutes. Right about then is when we met up with the Azur, and they thew something to the crew, a tape or a book or something.
Our first glimpse of Port Vila, a dark sky greets us.
This Sky Cruise ship had just come in while we were in Utanlang.
Iririki Island
The color and clarity of the water is breathtaking.
This capsule holds the lifeboat and "No Drugs Fitted" apparently means "Please don't break into the lifeboat for drugs because there aren't any inside."
Once we pulled up to the pier, they unloaded the fish they caught while anchored off of Nguna.
Back to civilization!
