Port Vila
May 16
May 16th - It was very nice to be back with running water, electricity and people who spoke our language. All the animals are lined up for lunch!
The lagoon from Tom and Linda's back yard
We had lunch with friends of Tom and Linda's and Linda used the heart shaped cutter I got her in Sydney to make cookies.
After lunch, Linda took us on an extensive tour of Vila. This is the boat shop.
A view of Port Vila from above.
I took pictures out the window while we drove - these are the ones that aren't blurry!
This is a typical Kava bar. Since it was Friday afternoon of a pay week, they were getting ready for the big night by prepairing the Kava early. Hidden by the truck are three guys chopping up kava root. Kava is a bitter tea made from the root of the kava plant that has a calming effect. You drink it in a quiet, dark place and just sit and think or talk quietly. WE tried it the day before we left and it was an interesting experience!
This is the former home of a friend of Linda and Tom's who's daughter we met and became friends with in Sydney. Hi Alice!!
Erakor Island Resort behind us, this is the mouth of the lagoon and Tom and Linda live on the end of it.
This is the route that Linda takes every day when she swims, From the little pier on the mainland to Erakor and back. We went with her several times.
A typical road.
A Shell Gas Station with a groovy paint job.
Roughly translated, this means "No Dumping, Thank You". The language of Bislama is what all ni-Vanuatu people speak and it is basically pidgen English.
The red fish are Poulet, (red snapper) which we had several times - it's so delicious!
