Chapter fifty eight

Zac picked his skateboard up and jogged to the front of the house.

Leaning over to look in the window, he paused and waited.

"This is so dumb. Why am I the one knocking."

He leaned back over and pressed the doorbell.

Tapping one foot he turned back to Zac Hanson, who stood by the mailbox, in a dazed stance.

The door opened and a tired teenage boy stood, holding the handle and rubbing his eyes.

"What."

Zac Dentra frowned and took a breath.

"Uh…is Amanda here."

The boy paused, looked intently at Zac and then turned around.

"MANDA!!!"

He looked behind the boy to see Amanda pulling a jacket on as she ran through the hall, still running she grabbed her backpack and hustled past the boy.

"Where are you going."

She sneered at him and continued walking.

"I gotta tell mom and dad somethin'."

"Tell them I went to the mall."

She didn't look back but walked to the sidewalk by Zac Hanson.

For fear of being left alone, Zac Dentra jumped off the porch and raced after her. The door slammed behind them and Amanda let out a sigh.

"He's such a prick sometimes."

"Who is he?"

"My brother. 16 year old ball of laziness. You woke him up."

The two boys smiled.

"Didn't know you had a brother."

She turned to Zac Dentra.

"Well if you came over more often you would."

Zac Hanson smiled at the two.

"Lets go get Kris and take off."

The three headed down the sidewalk, chattering about what they'd be doing.

Taylor lay on the sofa, staring up at the fan.

"You can't stay here Tay, you need to get out, at least take a shower."

Taylor mumbled something and closed his eyes.

"Oh come on Taylor! Get up. You can't get anything done like this. You laying here is NOT helping her any."

Taylor rolled over, facing the clock that now sat on the coffee table.

"It's not right, or fair, or okay."

Isaac walked to the kitchen and began making things for lunch.

"No one said it was. It's called life Tay, and I know it stinks, and I know it blows, but you have to get up and live the next day."

Taylor sat up.

"Live the next day? How can you say that? It's not just some idle matter that just happened. It's important. Important to me, and Mey, and everything to do with me, and it didn't exactly feel great Ike, live a day in my shoes and see how it feels."

Isaac stuck his head out from the kitchen.

"Taylor. I don't know what to say. There were three of them. That's a lot to have anyway! No wonder she was showing so much. You still have two Taylor. Two babies, and the doctor said they are fit as a fiddle and healthy and great. You should be happy."

Taylor slumped back down in his bed.

"I want to be happy, but I'm not, and I wish I could make it better, but I can't, and it still hurts Ike."

"Taylor make the best of what it is. I didn't say it doesn't hurt, I just think you need to think about it no more and go on."

"She was sick for so long, and she went through all that, and just to have that happen."

"Taylor. Like I said, you have two, beautiful babies on the way, wonderful miracle, and yet, your still mourning the one you lost? Tay, I know it can't feel good, and I know that me saying this isn't helping much, but it's gone. There's not a thing you can do about it."

Taylor grumbled to himself.

"What was that?"

"Ike…you just. You just don't know what it's like. And I know your trying to do good here, but it's not working."

"Tay I'm not trying to make anything better of it, I'm just saying…"

"Well don't say it Isaac! I'll think about it on my own time alright!"

"I care about it Taylor."

"I didn't say you didn't. I just don't think you understand."

"Maybe I don't, but I'd like to."

"Your not going to. And I hope you don't ever have to."

Isaac sighed.

Watching Taylor pull his hair back out of his face and lay back down, he thought about his brother's situation.

Turning back into the kitchen he spoke to himself.

"Wish I knew Tay."

"When was the last time you went home you grungy. You stink."

Zac Dentra held out his arms and turned slowly around.

"Three days ago."

Amanda pushed him away.

"Gross! You need a shower and some clean clothes is what I think."

"Nagh."

"What about your family, don't they get worried?"

The two Zac's looked at eachother and shook their heads.

"They don't have time to worry about us."

"What do you mean us? Neither of you have been home for that long!!!"

Kristin grinned and smacked both of them lightly upside the head.

"Well we were at Han's place the first night, and then we went to Kev's, and then our place."

The girls frowned.

"Your place?"

They nodded.

"What's this about your place?"

"It's a place."

"No really."

"Where is it."

"Couldn't tell you."

"You guys suck."

The girls spun around, walking up the sidewalk without them.

"Is Taylor there?"

Isaac rolled his eyes.

"Mom, Taylor is fine."

"That's not what I asked. Is he there."

"Yes mom. He's here."

"Put him on the phone."

"Mom, now isn't a good time."

There was a pause.

"Isaac Hanson put your little brother on the phone right now!"

Isaac smiled. Taylor was far from little.

"Fine mom."

Isaac carried the cordless by the antenna and walked to the sofa where his brother lay.

"Taylor."

He lay still, staring at the back of the sofa.

"Taylor sit up now and take this phone."

Taylor slowly sat up, throwing the blankets off his legs and placing his feet in front of him.

Handing the phone down to Taylor, Isaac raised his eyebrows.

"Be ready for an ass chewing."

Taylor frowned.

"You had a baby without her permission."

Isaac smiled and walked back to the kitchen.

"Yes."

"Is that anyway to greet your mother."

"Moooommm. Now?"

"I don't care what's going on in your life, I think you should say it with zest."

Taylor sighed.

"Now. About this baby thing."

"Who told you about the baby thing."

"Taylor. I have connections in this town."

"Mom, you go to lunch with three friends once a week and you spend the rest of your time shopping and watching Days of our lives. You can't have THAT many connections."

She paused.

"Okay fine, Cindy at the hospital."

"Mmm. Shoulda known."

"So then now that I found out something I wasn't supposed to know, such as a baby, which mind you is something I would have liked to know, what is your excuse for not telling me."

"The fact that you, dad, and every other relative we have would flip out, stare me down for having a life and then ask me embarrassing questions."

"Like what?"

"Mom. I'm not going to elaborate."

"What are you afraid of?"

"Mom! Aunt Maggie would ask me something like 'so where's the happenin' place."

His mother chuckled.

"Well?"

"MOM!"

"Well I just want to know why you kept it from me that's all."

"I was going to tell you…I would have had to tell you."

"So then. How far along is your girlfriend, who should be your fiancée."

"She doesn't have to be my fiancée to have children with me mother."

"You should get married before you have children."

"Mom, we're in a new century. Do you know what the divorce rate is now days? I'm content with my situation, and I think Mercy is too."

"Well answer my question anyway."

"Almost 5."

"Five months! How on earth did you keep that from me for 5 months!!"

"She waited in the car mom."

"That's awful!"

"It's not awful mom. We didn't want to tell you yet."

"It's still awful."

"I'll tell you what mom. I'll go talk to Mey today, and as soon as she's out of the hospital, you guys can go shopping for lots of groceries, maternal clothing, and baby clothes galore."

"I wanted to do that when your girlfriend was one week pregnant. But thanks to my son I sort of missed out."

"Mom. Now is not the time."

His mother half giggled half yelled.

"Taylor there's going to be two!!"

He chuckled.

"Yes mom. Twice the fun."

She laughed.

"Oh you are too wonderful."

"I'll take that as a compliment."

"Where the hell is Zac?"

Jeremy walked from the kitchen, a sandwich in one hand, Dr. Pepper in the other.

"Like I would know."

"He's been gone for like a week."

"Hardly a week Door."

"The album is hurting for this."

"And I'm sure you'll make him hurt for it too."

Dorin rolled his eyes.

"Thanks so much for your support."

"No problem."

Jeremy walked to the front door.

"Where are you going?"

Jeremy finished chewing the mouth full he had and swallowed.

"A couple guys I was friends with over at the appartment wanted to know if I could do anything…So I'm goin'"

Dorin threw up his arms.

"This album is never going to be done."

"This is a cool place."

The girls looked up into the rafters of the empty building.

"Yeah. Thanks for making us give it up."

Zac Hanson comically scowled at the girls.

"What did you guys do here?"

"Hung out."

"Cool."

The boys had decided not to show them the room, or at least not yet. There was something cool about having a room stocked with games television stereo, and month old dirty laundry that held a certain awe. They weren't about to show it off.

"So where did you guys sleep?"

"On the floor."

"Ooo, comffy."

"Not really."

The four of them paused, then the two boys turned towards the entrance.

"Well, now that you've seen it, lets go."

The girls placed their hands on their hips.

"That's it!"

In unison they replied.

"S'all."

The two girls rolled their eyes and walked to the two Zac's.

"Fine then. Lets go."

Taylor sat by the hospital bed.

"You okay about this whole thing."

Mercy nodded.

"You get out tomorrow."

"I know."

"My mom knows."

Mercy sighed.

"Don't doubt it."

"Why do you say that?"

"Tay, I don't doubt that Entertainment weekly, and people magazine haven't been here."

He smiled.

"Well they haven't."

"Maybe we should tell everyone and just get it over with."

They paused.

"Maybe we should."

"Where would we start?"

Taylor looked at her.

"Well me and 'Hanson' have a few more things to do in NY and Chicago this month."

Mercy sighed.

"Like who."

"Funny as it sounds, Rosie. Rosie actually just got a hold of Chris. I was, sort of shocked. Ike was just talking about her."

"You going to tell Rosie that we're having two kids Tay."

He smiled.

"I bet she giggle like mom did."

"It's been a long day!"

"Yeah! And we did NOTHING!"

Amanda stood on the doorstep of Kristin's house.

"That's not entirely our fault."

"Fine then. You guys are assholes."

Zac hanson frowned.

"You don't mean that."

"No. We don't. I just like saying that."

Zac Dentra threw up his arms.

"I have an album I'm working on, I stink, and I'm tired. You can't call me an asshole for that."

Kris raised an eyebrow.

"Oh yeah."

"Yeah!"

The two girls looked at eachother.

"Go home, take a shower, make your album, then call us."

They turned around and walked in the house.

"Please don't tell me girls are this difficult."
