"Russia"

Sunday, July 28th @6-8pm

Guest: Pat Franey, pastor of Morris Community Church (started 7/1/02), shared a wide-informative, inspirational, and missions sent encouraging stories of his trip to Siberia-Russia. He even brought a tape recorded service that we played "live". It included his partner's (Phil Drown, works with Blandin Foundation) testimony and some Russian praise & worship music. We extended his interview/share from 30 minutes to 45 minute because of the abundance of testimonies from his mission trip. Towards the end of the show, a listener called in to ask about the difference of freedom in Russia and America (our first call-in!).

For more info. on his trip, click to=>Siberia 2002

I also shared some stories that Doug Reese, coach of UMM wrestlint team, shared during this morning's Hog Roast/Potluck at East Side Park. He'll be sharing on Sunday, August 25th on this radio show!

During the three-day ordeal, family members and friends held vigils in Somerset, some standing on the roadside pleading for prayer for those trapped below.

CBN.com – A Pennsylvania community is rejoicing today, saying the dramatic weekend rescue of nine miners trapped underground for three days is nothing short of a miracle.

Friends and relatives of the nine survivors who emerged covered in coal dust from a flooded mine shaft say their prayers were answered.

Robert Pugh's son was the last to be pulled out. Pugh said, "Anybody in this world who don't believe in miracles, they're wrong. This presented a miracle. This showed there's miracles."

Huddling together for warmth 240 feet underground, the miners held on to hope that it was not their time to die. One miner told reporters, "We never lost the faith... we stuck together."

And when they had doubts, they turned to prayer. One of the rescued miners, Boogie Pugh, said, "Yes, I had one. I had a doubt at one time when things did look bad, but they picked up and we just kept on praying and things worked out."

During the three-day ordeal, family members and friends held vigils in Somerset, some standing on the roadside pleading for prayer for those trapped below.

Pennsylvania's governor called it nothing short of miraculous that all nine were rescued alive. One miner told reporters that God, his wife and kids were the only things that got him through.

Six of the survivors have been reunited at home with their families, but three remain hospitalized.

Sunday, July 21st @6:15p-8pm

(Show was postponed after being called on 7/7&7/14)

Guest:Bethany Eastvold, UMM grad 02', shares about waiting to be healed. Bethany grew up in Duluth and Little Falls, MN. She shared about what's it is like having a cancer removed from her throat, which she is "waiting" during the recovery process. Unfortunately, most of her later part of the tape recorded interview went blank due to technical difficulties. However, from her interview earlier with my new co-host John Franey and I; we learned that she loves Rich Mullins (her answer to-Famous person you look up to?), which we played one one of his songs ("Where I Am"..is where you will also be) after the tape interview (5 minutes was only recorded!).

She plans to attend University of North Dakota to get her Master degree and join the newly church plant team of Harvest Community Church this Fall. She was in Morris in the first half of this summer to complete some credits for graduation.

Please keep Bethany in prayers for full complete physical healing and encouragement from the family of believers wherever God sends her. We encouraged her with verses (Romans 8:25 "waiting patiently"; Psalm 5:1-3 "wait expectantly"). She shared her favorite verse->Psalms 27: 13-14

>"MIRACLES" IN THE "LAND OF THE MORNING CALM" >Many around the world witnessed the events as the church utilized multi-media tools to spread the Good News and shakes up Korea

>SEOUL, KOREA (ANS) -- There was an air of expectancy during the second weak of the recent evangelistic two-week outreach at the Manmin Joong-Ang Church, a 75,000 member church based in Seoul, Korea and led by the senior pastor, Rev. Dr. Lee Jae-Rock. (Pictured: A typical service at the Manmin Church)..

>Many with terminal diseases attended the nightly gatherings hoping that God would heal them and those who were "touched by God" said they were not disappointed.

>"The blind, dumb or deaf, were healed during the second week," said Johnny Kim, Director of International Mission Bureau of Manmin Church. "We also had the case of the healing of a woman who had a terminal cancer in her womb, but when she received prayer from Dr. Lee she was instantly healed and we've got MRI photo before and after the prayer that prove this miracle."

>Kim also said that there were a variety of healings that also took place including many whom he said "were in wheelchairs and stood up and came to the front to witness publicly to their healing."

>Before the service, sick people registered their illness with medically trained counselors who go over their symptoms both spiritually and physically. They then wore a badge with their symptoms written on it and the Dr. Lee prayed for each illness and then those who are healed, came to the front, often running and dancing and then take turns in testifying.

>SERVICES CARRIED ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB AND SATELLITE TV

>Besides those packed into the church's eight sanctuaries, an unknown number of people tune in on the World Wide Web to watch the live web cast in Korean, Japanese and Chinese.

>The services were also sent by satellite by Manmin TV to 40 branches churches throughout the Korean peninsula as well as parts of Japan, China and Russia.

>"We had many reports from the branch churches that lots of people were healed through the satellite live broadcasts when Dr. Lee prayed for the sick just as Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior healed the servant of the centurion who was far away from Jesus in the Bible," said Johnny Kim.

>"We believe that we should utilize all the modern tools to accomplish the Great Commission.

>"We have been running these two-week revivals now for ten years," said Johnny Kim. "This is a time when the people of Korea and other countries can see God's mighty power at work."

>Kim said that many overseas visitors came to Seoul for the meetings. "They came from the USA, Canada, India, France, Russia, Philippines, Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Kenya, Congo, Mongolia and China," he said.

>In the various sanctuaries, the service was translated for visitors in English, Japanese, Chinese, Russian, French and the main Indonesian language.

>Kim went on to say that one visitor was Bishop Dr. Charles Muyu, the chairman of preparation committee of 2001 Kenya Healing Crusade conducted by the Rev. Dr. Lee Jae-Rock. From India there was a delegation that are arranging a healing crusade with Dr. Lee in Chennai in October of this year, which included the Rev. Henry Joseph, advisor of the committee, and the Rev. Owen Roberts, the chairman of the preparation committee.

>The church has a full-time 50-piece orchestra called the Nissi (Victory) Orchestra, and also a 200-voice choir. There is also the Crystal Singers and various praise and worship music and dance teams that come onto the stage to perform. (Pictured: A Korean Praise Group that uses traditional musical instruments).

>When Dr. Lee preaches, his sermons are punctuated with lots of "amens" and verbal support from the congregation. His sermons usually last one hour and then comes a time of repentance -- Korean-style with lots of noise and weeping - and then he prays for the sick and asks people to lay their own hands on the sick part of their body.

THE NEED FOR "SUPERNATURAL INTERVENTION"

>Explaining the need for what he called "supernatural intervention," Kim stated, "Jesus said in John 4: 48 that unless the people see the miraculous signs and wonders, they would 'never believe.' So in the world we are living today which is filled with so much evil, suffering, materialism and evolutionism, unless we show them the tangible evidences of the living God, it is difficult for them to believe. We believe that miracles are for today!

>"Jesus and his disciples never failed to show the tangible evidences of the living God to confirm their message and people could believe what they preached after seeing and experiencing the miracles and wonders they performed."

>Dr. Lee began Manmin Joong-Ang Church back in 1982 with 13 members and $5 US. It has now grown to 75,000 members and has 40 churches in the country and 200 around the world. (a href="http://www.manmin.or.kr">www.manmin.or.kr).

>While I was in Korea to witness the revival meetings, Dr. Lee announced plans to build "The Grand Sanctuary," which will be the largest church building in the world, seating up to 200,000 people at one time.

>He said that one unusual aspect of the mega-church would be the fact that there will be TV monitors at the back of each seat. "The congregation will be able to comfortably watch what's going on in his or her own seat. The round altar will be at the center of the sanctuary, rotating around and going up and down," said Dr. Lee.

CHILDREN "UNDER GOD" Some children still want their nation to be "under God" C. Hope Flinchbaugh Special Correspondent, ASSIST News Service

PENNSYLVANIA (ANS) -- On Wednesday, June 26, 2002, the Ninth U. S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that children in public schools will no longer be permitted to use the words "under God" while reciting their pledge of allegiance to the American flag.

This legislation overturned a 1954 act of Congress under Dwight D. Eisenhower's presidency that inserted the phrase "under God" after the words "one nation" in the pledge.

The court ruled that "under God" is an endorsement of religion and cannot be recited in schools. The court ruling doesn't take effect for several months and in that time, the government can ask the court to reconsider its decision or take the ruling to the US Supreme Court.

The Associated Press reports that the case was brought to court by a Sacramento, California, atheist who objected because his second-grade daughter was required to recite the pledge.

My second grade daughter asked me, "Mom, how can one person make a law like that?"

"Well, there were a lot of people who had to agree with that one person before it became a law,” I answered.

Sadly, I told my children that exactly 40 years ago in a history making case titled Engel Vs. Vitale, our courts took prayer out of public schools. “I don’t know why the Christians let them make that law way back then,” I explained to my children. “If Christians don’t show everyone what it means to live right, then our country will keep on sinning against God until—“

“Until it’s destroyed.” My second grader finished the sentence.

The beauty of being a citizen of the United States of America is that one voice really can change history—for better or worse. It’s time for America to hear the voice of the Christian. It’s time for America to hear the voice of the children.

My fourth grader asked, "What will happen to us if we do (say "under God" during the pledge)? Are there going to be policemen around watching us while we say the pledge of allegiance?"

Funny--what one parent does to bring religious justice to his second grader, shakes the secure world of countless other children.

I can't sit back and sigh over the way our nation is asking for judgment and snubbing its nose at God. God wants prayer warriors and intercessors to stand in the gap, to repent for our sins and arrogance against him, and stand in faith for change.

I believe God has strategically placed "Daniels" inside the courts and governmental structures of our land -- men and women who are living fasted lifestyles, not adhering to every whim of the American culture. I'm dedicated to praying for the 3 men in the fiery furnace who wouldn’t bow to the culture of their day. My heart cry to God is for the Daniels who are right now in the "lions’ den" because they refuse to stop praying despite a new law against prayer that was brought in by deception.

Saturday, June 29, 2002 teen prayer leader Lou Engle and Tom Sipling of the national teen movement, The 30 Second Kneel Down, will be in New York City with thousands of teenagers at The Call NYC.

Lou Engle says, “I believe that since the ungodly ruling of "Engel vs. Vitale" issued in 1962 that removed voluntary prayer from schools, America has been wandering in the wilderness for 40 years. As we meet on June 29th for The Call NYC, in the very region where prayer was removed and on the 40th anniversary of that ruling, we believe that the 40-year wilderness season in America may, in fact, transition and bring about a spiritual shift in the nation.”

This is a HOT HOT season for our country-- as hot as those fires in the Midwest. Prayer has put out many manmade fires since the 2000 elections and I believe prayer will put out this fire, too.

Meanwhile, godly parents and teachers are coming to the forefront to teach their children that their freedoms of speech and religion are to be protected and, if need be, fought for. Children must understand that the foundation of our constitution guarantees the freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion.

What about the children in your family? If they were allowed a voice in the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals or the Supreme Court of our land, would they fight for their right to continue to be one nation "under God?" Shouldn't we help them?

South Korea)--With just four teams left in the World Cup, the Southern Baptist International Mission Board[2] and the Jesus Film Project continue sharing the Gospel. And, as Felicity Barrow reports, the outreach is going well. While most of the fans have come here to see their teams win, Baptists and other Great Commission Christians have come to win lost souls to Christ. More than 11,000 tracts, 1,500 Jesus Films, and over 100,000 visitors guides, containing soccer schedules, events and Gospel message have already been given out to the lost peoples of the world. We know so far that one Korean man and his two children have received Jesus as Lord and Savior after watching a copy of the Jesus Film that was given to them. Pray for an outpouring of the of God's spirit to move in mighty ways during the World Cup. Reporting from South Korea I'm Felicity Barrow.

SHIPMENT OF COATS, OTHER CLOTHES, SUCCESSFULLY DELIVERED TO AFGHANS Humanitarian International Services Group Provides Winter Clothing To 1,500 Families By Michael Ireland Chief Correspondent, ASSIST News Service COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO
(ANS) -- Last December, Mr. Kay Hiramine, executive director of the Humanitarian International Services Group of Colorado Springs, CO, was responsible for a shipment of two 40-foot containers of coats to Afghanistan.

He now reports the clothes have been successfully delivered to Afghan families. The National Ski Resort Association, which was instrumental in helping gather the coats, has now started an organization to send winter clothing annually to places in need, said Hiramine.

"Many of you helped us get the two 40 containers of coats to Afghanistan. I am attaching three pictures of the actual coat distribution and below is a first hand report from the field," he said.

"Overall, the following items were received at the stores in Afghanistan: 3,452 jackets, 972 sweaters, 488 pairs of pants/trousers, 220 shirts, 188 caps and 17 pairs of socks," said Hiramine. "We're still awaiting a final official report from our implementing partner on the distribution, but they have given us a verbal update to the effect that the full consignment was provided to 1,500 vulnerable families in Saighan District of Bamyan Province during the last week of January/first week of February," he said. Bamyan is in the central highlands. It is quite mountainous in the region, with the temperatures dropping well below freezing, said Hiramine.

"The area is also home to the Hazara, which are a minority group largely pursecuted under the Taliban regime. The clothing consignment was divided among the population as evenly as possible, with each family receiving at least two jackets. The clothing was accompanied by packages of six quilts/blankets and a three-month food supply for each family, provided by CRS through other donors," Hiramine said.

MARTIN BURNHAM, FILIPINO NURSE KILLED IN RESCUE OPERATION Second report, new details added.

By Noel T. Tarrazona Philippine correspondent for ASSIST News Service

ZAMBOANGA CITY, PHILIPPINES (ANS) -- American missionary Martin Burnham and Filipino nurse Deborah yap were killed during a military rescue operation conducted this afternoon at the town municipalities of Sirawai-Sibuco border in Zamboanga del Norte, the Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) said.

The bloody encounter between the Philippine Army's 44th Infantry Battalion and members of the Abu Sayyaf Group erupted as early as Thursday evening and fire shots are still being heard by nearby residents in the vicinity as of press time.

Martin's wife Gracia was also wounded in the encounter. The report said she was hit in the left leg but was declared by military doctors out of danger at the Camp Navarro Hospital where she was airlifted.

Four members of the Abu Sayyaf group were killed while 7 scout rangers pursuing the kidnappers were injured and were immediately airlifted by pavehawk choppers to Southcom hospital.

Martin and Gracia are affiliated with the New Tribes Mission, a missionary organization based in Manila.

Bob Meisl of New Tribes Mission, through a TV network, is appealing to the public to pray for Gracia who is now undergoing treatment. Meisl also appealed for prayer for Gracia's three children.

US soldiers have closely guarded the Camp Navarro Hospital where Gracia is being treated.

The missionary couple along with 18 persons were abducted by Abu Sayyaf bandits on May 27, 2001 at Dos Palmas Beach Resort in Palawan.

RESCUED MISSIONARY WORKER ARRIVES HOME wounded Gracia Burnham hugs children after one year ordeal

By Stefan J. Bos Special Correspondent, ASSIST News Service

MANILA/KANSAS CITY, (ANS) -- The injured but rescued US missionary worker Gracia Burnham, who lost her husband but not her faith in Christ, hugged their three children Monday in Kansas City Monday June 10, after a year-long hostage drama in the jungle of the Philippines.

"Welcome home, Gracia," people shouted as the 43-year old from Rose Hill near Witchita, Kansas, was greeted first by her youngest child, 11-year-old Zach. With her wounded right leg propped up by a pillow in a wheel-chair, she than hugged Jeff, 15 and Mindy, 12 and other relatives, before Zach wheeled her into a hallway amidst tight security at Kansas City International Airport.

She was taken to a secure area guarded by the FBI to greet other family members, including her parents and the parents of her late husband, Martin Burnham who died at age 42, The Associated Press (AP) reported. The body of Martin Burnham has been flown to a U.S. military base in Japan and was expected in America within the next few days, pending an atopsy.

NURSE

The body of 45-year old Philippine nurse Deborah Yap, who was also killed in the clash between government troops and the Abu Sayyaf Group on Friday, June 7 arrived in her small hometown of Lamitan Sunday, June 9, on the southern island of Basilan, an Abu Sayyaf base.

Gracia Burnham said that she supported the efforts by the Philippine government to crush the Abu Sayyaf Group, which has alleged links to the al-Qa'ida network of Osama bin Laden. The group says it wants to create a Muslim state in the southern Philippines, but critics argue the rebels have been more busy with taking hostages and asking for ransom.

Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo said Saturday, June 8, that the air force and army will unleash their full arsenal now that the rebels have no more hostages. More than 200 soldiers arrived Monday, June 10, to reinforce the offensive. The soldiers are the first of up to 1,800 additional troops to be deployed in three southern islands, AP quoted officials as saying.

BAD THING

"These (Abu Sayyaf Group) are not honorable people," Gracia Burnham said. "A very bad thing happened to Martin and I when we were taken." However she also added that "God was good every single day of our captivity. Martin was a source of strength to all the hostages."

Other former hostages, who were released earlier, explained recently that Martin sang inspirational songs and that he often said "thank you Lord" when they prayed for their release.

Earlier at the airport in Manila from where she left, Gracia Burnham said that they "needed every single prayer" people said "for us during our ordeal in the jungle."

She also wanted "especially to thank the military men, the Americans, the Filipinos who risked and even gave their lives to rescue us." And she asked people to continue their prayers for "me and my kids as we begin to rebuild our lives, and thank you."

CHARTERED BUS

Robert Varner, the pastor of Rose Hill Bible Church, said that a chartered bus carrying Gracia Burnham and other family members was expected to arrive in Rose Hill later Monday June 10. The Associated Press reported that residents were planning to line the street from the city limits to the Burnham house for their arrival.

Residents, friends and family also set up a Martin & Gracia Burnham Benefit Fund for donations to help Gracia and her children.

A CALL TO SCHOOL TEACHERS AND THEIR STUDENTS: GLEAN SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR HOPE! Unwanted School Supplies Can Be Donated To The Children Of The Philippines

By Michael Ireland Chief Correspondent, ASSIST News Service

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (ANS) -- A unique recycling and supply effort is under way in the schools of the nation's heartland.

Mr. Kay Hiramine, who heads up the relief organization Humanitarian International Services Group, is appealing to teachers and their students, as well as Sunday Schools in churches across America, to donate unused school supplies to needy children in the Philippines.

In an e-mail to ASSIST News Service (ANS), Hiramine said: "Today we just picked up excess and used school supplies from Mountain Ridge Middle School here in Colorado Springs, CO. I picked up over 10 boxes of binders, paper, pens, chalk, pencils and other school supplies. All of this was from teachers and students donating them to Humanitarian International Services Group to send to the Philippines. Incidentally, the Department of Education is so underfunded that teachers have to buy chalk for their own classes!"

He asked: "Can you help me get the word out to teachers in public schools, home school parents and Sunday School teachers around the country?

"As schools are closing this week and next month, people can send them to a US address where they will be shipped overseas to needy school kids in the Philippines," he said.

Hiramine added: "By gleaning from their classrooms and asking the kids to participate in this fight on the war on terrorism, by giving school supplies such as used pencils and extra paper that they might otherwise throw away, they can give hope to needy kids down in the Philippines."

Those interested in helping the school children in the Philippines can email Mr. Hiramine at Khiramine@aol.com or call him at 719-360-5006 and he will give them two US addresses that they can use.

A MIRACULOUS HEALING SPARKS WORLDWIDE HEALING MINISTRY FOR KOREAN PASTOR Rev. Dr. Lee Jae-Rock, senior pastor of the Manmin Joong-Ang church in Seoul now conducts "miracle" services and plans to build the world's largest church

By Dan Wooding Founder of ASSIST Ministries

SEOUL, KOREA (ANS) -- There was a time that Lee Jae-Rock lived a life that was blurred by alcohol and marked by "a department store of diseases," but a miracle healing changed everything for him - and for thousands of others. In an interview at the 75,000-member Manmin Joong-Ang Church in Seoul, Korea, now Rev. Dr. Lee revealed how God touched his life and how he now plans to build "The Grand Sanctuary," a 200,000-seater church in or around Seoul.

He began by revealing how he had suffered from many illnesses for seven years because of his excessive drinking.

"My stomach was burned out by whisky and it caused many diseases," he told me as we sat in his church office. "When I've got married and I entered a newspaper company, I gave a banquet to celebrate with friends. On a Sunday in March 1968, I invited my friends, colleagues, and relatives, and I drank about five bottles of whisky in a day as a whole.

"I suffered from many illnesses including a gastric ulcer, vomiting, dizziness, loss of appetite, loss in weight, exhaustion, severe anemia, skin disease in all over the body, arthritis and many unknown symptoms."

When asked if he drank because he was unhappy, Dr. Lee replied, "No. Before I accepted Jesus Christ, I loved to drink having fellowship with friends, colleagues, relatives etc. In Korea, drinking has been one of the strong tools to have fellowship."

He then spoke about his early life. "I was born in 1943, was raised in a very strict conservative Korean Confucius family under the father, a scholar of Chinese literature," he said. "I studied at Hanyang University, one of the top Korean Universities in Seoul, South Korea majoring in Civil Engineering but I couldn't finish it. During that time, I had to join the army for military service, as it mandatory for a Korean man. When I completed my military service, I didn't go back to the campus again.

Then I got married to my wife, the director of Manmin Prayer Mountain now, and began to work as a journalist at a newspaper. Dr. Lee said that his illnesses got progressively worse and he tried all kinds of methods to get healed.

"I tried my best to be healed through human method but failed," he said. "For example, I worshipped idols earnestly. I even killed a hen with knife during idol worshiping according to the advice of seniors around me. I ate lots of cats as well as human excremental water to be healed but failed. On April 17, 1974, one of my older sisters, who was the only one in my family with a strong Christian faith came to me and told me that she had been praying for me for a long time. She lived in the countryside and she asked me to guide her to a Christian meeting for divine healing conducted by a well-known Christian healer at that time.

"Because I loved my older sister, I guided her to there and I found that I was soaked in a sweat as soon as I knelt down before the Lord in that sanctuary and found out that I was healed immediately even before receiving the prayer. Next day I found out that all the diseases were healed. Hallelujah! I severely wept and repented. All the people in the world had abandoned me, even by my own mother, but God never abandoned me and He healed me. At that moment I knew that He was alive -- He existed. I immediately accepted Jesus Christ as my personal savior and began to regularly attend the worship service on Sunday.

"I eventually entered Holiness Theological Seminary which was located in Seoul. I studied four years there. I've got B.Th."

    HOW THE CHURCH BEGAN

Dr. Lee said that it was on July 25, 1982, that he established the church in Shindaebang-dong, southwest of Seoul, Korea, with 13 members and five US dollars.

He said that God "spoke" to him about starting the church at his home when he prayed overnight with his wife some years before that.

"Three years before I began the Manmin Church, I heard God say, 'My servant, whom I have chosen before time began! I trained you for three years. Now equip yourself with the Word of God for three years. You loved Me more than your parents, brothers, wife or children. You will perform signs and wonders crossing over the sea, river, mountains.' I wanted to become a good elder and to make lots of money to use it for His kingdom and glory but God called me His servant. But I was 35 years old, had no good memory. How could I become a servant? Still, I obeyed.

"At the end of February 1982, it had been three years since God told me to equip myself with His Word. God led me to conduct the first revival meeting in Masan City when I was a senior in the theological seminary and encouraged me to establish the church. In May 1982, God said, 'The church will be established when the sun is scorching,' and the church was established on July 25, 1982 in Shindaebang-dong, Seoul, Korea.

"Countless people have been healed and experiencing the great power, blessing of the living God both in Korea and in all around the globe."

He said he saw rapid growth and by this year, the membership was up to 75,000 people and continued to grow by hundreds each week.

Dr. Lee says that a key to such growth has been prayer and while I was in Seoul, I attended one of his Friday night services that go from 11:00 PM to 4:00 AM the next morning. I asked him why he holds such a late-night service? (Pictured: A typical service at the Manmin Church).

"First of all, we should pray to be awake in this world where there are lots of temptation and evil," he said. "Jesus set a good example to pray overnight when he lived on the earth. It was on a Friday afternoon, that Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, was crucified to redeem the sin of all mankind. We remember what the Lord has done for us when we worship with prayer and praise on Friday night."

When asked if people don't get tired, Dr. Lee smiled and then said, "When a man or a woman is filled with the Holy Spirit, he or she doesn't get tired."

He also revealed that his church, like many others in South Korea, holds a daily 5:00 AM "Dawn Prayer Meeting" and then explained why.

"The Bible says, 'Pray continually'," he said. "It is good to pray for the first thing in the morning when we begin a day so that we may have fellowship with God Trinity and be led by the Holy Spirit." "Additionally, one of unusual prayer life of Manmin Church is what so called "Daniel Prayer Meeting" from 9 PM to Midnight every night except Friday. Around 2000 church members gather every night to pray together for World Mission, National Evangelization, the country, the church, their spiritual growth and prayer items."

Dr. Lee spoke about his present-church building. "There are seven sanctuaries in Central Church in Seoul," he said. "The main sanctuary can accommodate around 5,000 people and people can join the worship through TV monitors in other six sanctuaries which are similar to or less than the main one. We have about 40 branch churches in major cities in all over the country.

"We also have a total 177 branch churches in 18 countries and 303 cooperating churches in 9 countries. These include China, Japan, Pakistan, India, Taiwan, Philippines, Argentina, Canada, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, and Congo etc.

"In Mainland China, we have 12 branch churches," he went on. "Some of them were approved by the local government officially. We have 11 missionaries based in China and some are Korean Chinese and some are Koreans staying there as visitors."

Because of his own healing, Dr. Lee explained, is why he places such an emphasis on the gifts of the Spirit today.

"That's because Jesus said in John 4:48, 'Unless you people see the miraculous signs and wonders, you will never believe.' Without showing the tangible evidence of the living God, it's very difficult to convince the unbelievers. Remember that Jesus and His disciples never failed to show the miracles after they preached. That's why people could believe what they preached."

He added, Mark 16:20 says, 'Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it."

Then I broached the thorny question of how he knows that people are healed and it is not just an emotional occurrence that doesn't last.

"We have medical team consisting of Medical Doctors and nurses etc. to verify whether the healing is complete and sure," he stated. "Through the comparison of medical data like X-ray photos, MRI photos, CT photos, Doctor's diagnosis etc. before and after the prayer, we can be sure whether the healing is temporary or complete. Nothing is impossible with God, Bible says. Manmin Church has been confirming it through countless cases of healing including AIDS, leukemia, cancers even polio, blind, deafness, muteness etc."

BELOW THIS WAS REPORTED on 6/2/02

WHY SOUTH KOREA HAS SO MANY CHRISTIANS

When asked why his country has so many Christians, he said, "It's because of God's blessing. And I believe there must be the providence of God in this last time for Korean people to serve the Lord in all over the world. It is also partly because of persecution we have experienced in the past that I believe we have the revival in Korea. Even in the times of early church, the church experienced the revival because of persecution. Through the times of the Chosun Dynasty with it's policy of seclusion, of Japanese rule for 35 years, of the period of Korean War, Korean churches couldn't but cry out to God and have grown up.

"Church growth or gaining souls can be made through the spiritual warfare and we win victory in that battle through prayer. When we defeat enemy devil, satan, by the power of God with the help of the Holy Spirit in the spiritual realm, the darkness, evil force etc. is going draw away and we can lead the unbelievers to Christ. When the congregation experiences the power of the living God by themselves through the prayer, they can't but witness saying 'Come and See!' and church will grow.

    SOCCER WORLD CUP EVANGELISM

Dr. Lee then spoke about the plans his congregation has to evangelize those coming to Korea for the Soccer World Cup?

"It is a wonderful opportunity for us to preach the gospel to lots of people from many countries," he said. "First of all, we pray for the delegation from overseas and for the successful event. We are going to distribute the printed materials, which introduce Gospel, Jesus Christ, the evidences of the living God etc. Through college students and volunteers, we are going to help them in interpretation etc. at the same time we introduce gospel to them. If possible, we'd like to invite them to Manmin church to see how God is moving in the church. If there are sick people and they are willing, we would pray for them so that they may experience the power of the living God by themselves."

    OUTREACH TO NORTH KOREA

I then asked him if the church has any plans to move into North Korea if and when the door opens?

"Yes," he said. "We have been praying and preparing to preach the gospel to North Korea where lots of our fellow Korean people are suffering. Even we have special mission in the church called 'North Korea Mission' and the members have been preparing themselves with the message and the prayer etc. to move into N.K. for evangelization as soon as the door is opened."

    ABOVE THIS WAS REPORTED 6/2

Will the door then close again and so will there be martyrs?

"Yes," Dr. Lee states, because God said so. The door will be opened shortly and be closed soon. There will be martyrs."

    THE GRAND SANCTUARY

Dr. Lee concluded our interview by revealing plans to build the world's largest church that has the working name of "The Grand Sanctuary." He said that work is due to begin on this massive church on a site yet to be finalized, in or close to the capital city of Seoul in 2003 or 2004.

"The diameter of 'The Grand Sanctuary' will be 600 meters and between 150,000-200,000 people will worship at the same time in it," said Dr. Lee, who already has 75,000 members of his church.

TV MONITORS AT THE BACK OF EACH SEAT

He said that one unusual aspect of the mega-church would be the fact that there will be TV monitors at the back of each seat. "The congregation will be able comfortably watch what's going on in his or her own seat," he stated.

When asked why he wanted to build a church as big as this, Dr. Lee said, "There have been so many magnificent buildings for human being to please man since the creation of the earth. Even now there are lots of skyscrapers and great, luxurious buildings for men but not one as big as this for the triune God - the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. We need the building for our God which shows His Glory, Power, and Love and in which men, both believers and unbelievers, can feel that great love.

"There is one big sanctuary in Rome, Italy but it has a lot of statues in it and the atmosphere is different from what we are talking about."

And to think that this all came about through the healing of a drunken journalist all those years ago.... Who said the age of miracles was over?

FREEDOM AND FAITH: RESOURCE HELPS 12-STEP PARTICIPANTS ACHIEVE GOALS

WHEATON, IL (ANS) -- Every month the number of Christian recovery groups increase. Some 15,000,000 people participate in 12-step recovery programs to overcome their destructive addictions and lifestyles. For many the journey is a spiritual one, explains Steve Arterburn, M. Ed., founder and CEO of New Life Clinics, the largest provider of Christian counseling throughout the United States and Canada. "We are finding that many who attend these programs want to expand and deepen their recovery to include the God of the Bible rather than just an unidentified higher power," he notes. "An increasingly popular resource in that journey has been the Life Recovery Bible-particularly today in light of the world events that have motivated people to make significant life changes and to break harmful addictive behaviors." In an era of more and more specialized Bibles, one has to wonder if a "recovery" Bible really does make a difference. The answer has been a resounding "yes" based on user feedback and continually growing sales figures since the Bible's release in 1991. "For me, the most profound story involving the Life Recovery Bible occurred about six years ago," recalls Arterburn, who was asked by a pastor to counsel a severely depressed cocaine addict. Arterburn met with the woman for over an hour, listening as she poured out her anger and bitterness in vile language. He did his best to offer hope and direction. As the apparently unproductive meeting drew to a close, Arterburn handed her a copy of the Life Recovery Bible and encouraged her to read the book of John as if God was speaking directly to her. He honestly expected to hear from her pastor later that week that she'd taken her life. Six months later, as Arterburn was preparing to speak at a church, he was approached by an enthusiastic and vibrant woman. "She was carrying a Life Recovery Bible that was so used and worn that it looked like it had gone through a washing machine," he notes. "My throat closed up in startled realization-this was the woman who was in my office." When he asked her what had happened, she said, "I stopped believing the lies of Satan and started believing the truth of God. I took your advice and read the book of John. I have not had cocaine in six months, and God has replaced my despair with hope." According to Arterburn, "The original vision for The Life Recovery Bible was to help alcoholics and addicts see that God has a lot to say about their recovery and must become the foundation of that recovery," explains Arterburn. "I wanted to highlight the parts of the Bible that correlate with the 12 steps and other recovery principles." Sharing Arteburn's desire for a Bible designed specifically to help those struggling with addictions was fellow recovery expert David Stoop, Ph.D. "Dave knew of Bible scholars across the country who were recovering from addictions, and he enlisted them to write the notes and commentaries for the Life Recovery Bible," says Arterburn, of their joint effort to create the Bible. "The Life Recovery Bible is the only study Bible based on the 12-step recovery program," notes Douglas R. Knox, Senior Vice President and Publisher of Tyndale House Publishers. "Tyndale is committed to creating Bibles that meet people's unique needs, communicating through relevant notes, and helping people apply Biblical truth to their lives. This dedication to helping those in need is evident through the Life Recovery Bible. The notes through the text pinpoint passages and thoughts important to people in recovery; the 12-step devotionals discuss the important truths of the 12 steps in the context of Scripture; the Serenity Prayer devotionals reflect on principles from the Serenity Prayer, illuminated by specific Bible passages; and recovery profiles feature recovery lessons drawn from the lives of key Bible characters. The New Living Translation's clear, accurate, and emotive text is perfect for study and reflection. Please feel free to use it as it fits your needs. I am glad to report that my son, Peter, and his wife Sharon, have arrived safely back in the UK after being robbed of their passports and and money and other items on their tenth wedding anniversary "vacation" in Paris. I want to thank you for your prayers for them and also for those of you who sent them some financial support to help them through their ordeal. When he first heard about God's love he ran even faster -- away from God -- until the love of Jesus overpowered him and gave him a new business plan -- to reach the lost in Hollywood with the love and humility found in Jesus Christ. "I had conflicting feelings being a socialist and working for a capitalist company," says Edwin Ogento, founder of The Original God Ministries. He and his Dutch-born wife, Victoria, provide marriage and relational counseling to many in the entertainment industry, particularly those trapped in self-destructive lifestyles.
