O "Hey! Let's check out that volcano" Batty said. We flew over and landed on it. I peered in the wide opening at the top of it. "Do you think the volcano might erupt?" I asked. "No way! That thing probably hasn't erupted for thousands of years!" Batty said. "I da' know about that, Batty. Are you sure? I better tell the other beanies about it just in case" I said.
"Okay, okay!" Batty replied. She was about to say something else, but then she saw that I had left and was flying back towards beanieland. "Hey Radar! Wait up!" She flew after me, as I flew into Beanieland. I raced to the Beanieland intercom, and made an emergency anouncement. "Everybody! May I have your attention please? May I have your attention please? A volcano has been discovered within Beanieland. I must warn you, there is a chance that it will erupt, so until I have the time and equipment to figure out if it will erupt, please beware of lava!" then the intercom was silent. Sly and Ringo were playing Nintendo64 at the time, and when they heard the announcement, they totally freaked. They got out of sly's house and starting running all over beanie land screaming and shouting "HOT LAVA!! WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!" But they weren't the only beanies in panic. A lot of us were starting to do crazy things, while we still had time, and others insisted on scheming on a way to stop the lava. Meanwhile, Patti, Slither, Glory, Chip, Stinger, Nip, Bronty, and I were standing by the volcano, trying to see what the odds were that the volcano might erupt. After a while, Chip and I had confirmed that the volcano WOULD erupt, but we weren't sure of when. Patti made the announcement, and when the beanies heard it, they all jumped at least five feet in the air. But the next day, as we were all in their lunch line waiting for breakfast, there was no lava. The following week there was no lava. The next month there was still no sign of volcanic lava. The beanies started to forget all about the lava, so Inky threw a party, everyone was invited, and we were partying because there would be no lava after all. The party ended at midnight, but the beanies had planned it to last much longer, but the reason that it ended so suddenly was because Velvet heard a distant rumbling noise.
"Hey! What's that noise?" Velvet hissed. Everyone froze. We listened. We heard the noise again. The Beanies' gaze turned to me.
"Okay, I can tell you that I know what it is, but you REALLY are not going to like it, if you know what I mean. All I have time to say is RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I said. The beanies stormed out of Inky's house, and started running around, screaming their lungs out. Then Magic landed beside me and pointed at the far horizon line. I looked, and right away, I knew what it was. It was the lava flow. More and more lava was gushing out of the volcano, and the beanies all had flashlights now, and I told everyone to calm down. There was no reason to panic if the lava was still some distance away. "But what are we going to do when the lava gets closer? All of Beanieland will be ruined!" Snip cried. I shook my head sadly and said "I know all of you have always looked up to me for advice, ideas, ways to escape from the ever coming dangers and threats we face. You have allways had faith in me every time that you got captured, knowing that I would always be there to save you. Well, this hardly ever happens, but I have no idea how we are going to survive this intense flow of lava. But there is one small, tiny hope that we might survive." "You mean...?" asked Batty. "Yes" I replied. "It looks like Sunny is our last hope." *** We rushed to Meanieville, it's a place where all of the meanie beanies live. (If you are totally in the dark about meanies, go to www.meanies.com to find out what they are.) Anyways, we rushed around there calling "Sunny!! Where are you?" In a short time we saw a little creature that looked like a chicken head in an egg yoke. "Okay, what is it this time, Ty's precious little beanies?" he crooned in a mocking tone. "Sunny, we need your help! A volcano has erupted in Beanieland, and the lava is going to ruin Beanieland and all of us! And don't start asking us why we don't just go and ask Radar, because for once he doesn't know what to do!" Erin screamed in fury. None of us seemed to have any patience either. "Fine. I'll help" Sunny said. He told us the plan. It was quit a good one. Why didn't I think of that? I kept wondering. But it had taken so long for him to explain it that by the time we got back to Beanieland, it was too late! The lava was everywhere and we were just lucky that there were a few trees left standing. I started running through a list of names and doing a row call to see that we were all safe in the tree tops. Then I called one of the names. I waited for an answer. Nobody answered. I called it agian, this time getting a little worried. Still no answer, so I shouted it as loud as I could incase the beanies couldn't hear me. Still there was no reply. There was a sudden silence in the trees and no one said anything. Because the beanie who didn't seem to be safe with the rest of us was my best friend, Slither. Oh no! I thought. No, no no! Not my best friend, Slither! I must find him NOW! "I need to leave the tree", I said. "I can't leave my best friend out there." "No, Radar! It's not safe!" Batty said. But I didn't care what she said anymore. I needed to save my best friend. I had to. I flew off of the tree before Batty could grab me. The other Beanies all looked worried as I left. "Come back, Radar! Come back!" Stinger shouted. I kept on flying. I saw no sign of Slither. I flew to the wreckage of Slither's house. I still did not see him. Then I saw a very deep, very steep raveene. I looked down at the raveene. The lava was just starting to flow into it. I saw movement. Slither was down there!!! "HHHHEEEELLLLLLPPPPPP!!!!" he screamed when he saw me. I flapped down towards the raveene as fast as I could. The lava kept on flowing into the raveene, rapidly. It was closing in on Slither. Feet away from him, then inches! At that moment I decided to stop flapping and start falling. I fell down, down. I was just about to hit the ground when I unfolded my wings and stopped the fall. The lava was just about to touch Slither and burn his skin, and I grabbed him with my feet and rocketed up in the air just before that would have happened. Slither had passed out cold from the shock he had gone through. I was flapping back to the trees where the other Beanies were waiting for me. I was going to set Slither down on one of them, but then I saw something that made me stop in mid-air. One of the trees that the Beanies were standing in was falling, and you guessed it,-- right below them was a huge river of lava. "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!" I screamed. I flapped towards the tree, then I stopped. I couldn't keep that tree from falling! It was too big and heavy. What was I going to do then? I couldn't let them die! My mind raced frantically. And as I was thinking about what to do, the tree was sinking farther in. Ofcourse! I thought. I'll just use one of my inventions or something! Then I realized there wasn't enough time to do that. I didn't know what I could do. Time was running out. I paniced. I grabbed some beanies and threw them onto a high rock. I did that again. and again. The tree started twisting and suddenly snapped. Trap, Patti, Bruno, Bessie, and Snort were still on it when that happened. I flew down and grabbed them just in time. Then they scrambled onto the rock as fast as they could. Then I flew back to the tree, that was rapidly falling over, to see if there were any other beanies left. Suddenly some sort of scragly bird flapped out of it. The bird definitly wasn't a beanie. It started flying towards me and grabbed Slither (who was still unconsious) from my back with it's tallons. The bird started flying way. "NOOOOOOO!!" I cried. I started flying after the bird but I didn't see a splinter falling from the tree that was falling start towards me. It cute a hole in my wing. I screamed in agony. I was falling, falling, along with the tree that was right above me. And the lava was right below me. I was falling. I tried flapping, but the tree was in my way. Not to mentionthat the tree was about to crash into the lava and crush me while I would be burning and melting. I cannot quite explain my emotions during this short period of time. I was feeling terrified, yet also confused and I felt a sense of falier... Suddenly a loud noise. It sounded like Jake the drake, execpt it sounded too low, too deep. "Quaaack!" The next thing I knew a huge gray/green feathery thing dove out of the sky and grabbed my little black foot. It pulled me away from the lava, from the tree. It set me on the rock which I had put the other beanies on. Once I had a firm grip on the rock, I gazed at the creature that had rescued me. It had sounded like Jake, and it also looked like Jake. But something wasn't quite right. It was made out of a fluffy, plush frabric unlic any beanie I had ever seen. And it was about the size of a pillow pal...
"My name", said the duck "Is Jake." I stared in amazement and confusion. "But, how can- I mean, how did you- er- huh?" was all I managed to say. "Oh, well I better tell you something. I'm not the Jake, I'm part of a new kind of toy Ty decided to make. We're called Beanie Buddies, we're just like the beanies, even with the same names. Only we're bigger, and instead of having a poem or birthday on the inside of our tags, there is a little info about the original beanie. Oh, and I'm not the only one he's made so far..." the duck said. He made a gesture to the right, and suddenly many more Beanie Buddies came climbing onto the rock. WOW!I thought. Humphrey, Twigs, Teddy cranberry, Rover, Peanut, Beak the kiwi, Strech and others, all recreated into giant creatures. The original beanies themselves were all there, but still, it was strange... *** I got fifty gallons of water from one of my machines, and we poured it all over, and the lava cooled down. Then I cast a spell of magic that magically restored everyone's homes, the stores, the resturants, ectcetera to look just the way they had looked before the lava came. It was one of those lasting spells that stays and never wears off. Then we all got together and planted trees, flowers, and other plant seeds that soon grew into beatiful, lush rainforests. I'll have to admit, Beanieland now looked even better than before. I cast one more spell, which made many ferns, tropical creatures, and waterfalls to appear. I was just about to have a celebration, but then Magic stopped the party and said "Hey! What about Slither?" I had forgotten about that. "Okay, guys. Let's stop this party right now." "and we're going to find Slither?" asked Trap the mouse. "You bet we will" I laughed. After dark, Wise the owl handed torches to all of the beanies so they could see. All of us, exept me, Batty, and the cats. I listened as the winds shifted, and the trees swayed. Even though I was used to the dark, something seemed eerie, unusual about tonight. I could hear the sound of distant chimes ringing. I longed to be at Batty's house, it had only four floors, but it was a nice house. I looked back at the other beanies, who were following me. I knew that they relied on me to help them, to lead them. I knew that sometimes Batty would whisper that I'm such a friend to her, that I should "rule the Universe." Ofcourse I laughed at this, but I did enjoy her compliment. Maybe, I thought, I could rule the Universe. As I took to the sky, I saw a light in the distance. A dimmed yellow light. I signaled for the other beanie babies to follow me, and they did. Sometimes I feel like their lives are in my hands. But now was not the time to think about these things. I had to find Slither. We had been friends for a long time. I tried to turn my attention to the dimming light. I flew faster, this time not waiting for the other beanies to catch up. I flew on for a long time. then I saw Magic the dragon.
Stinger, Princess, and her were the only ones thjat were able to catch up. "Radar, what's over there?," Princess asked, running through the woods, trying to keep up. Magic swooped down and Princess and Stinger climbed onto her back. I stopped to hang on a tree branch for a moment, and then we flew off again. Now it was so dark that I could just barely make out the outline of Magic as she flew shiftly through the air. I had to use echo location now if I wanted to see where I was going. But I could still se the light as we flew, faster and faster. I reached the light, which seemed to be coming from an underground tunnel. I could hear voices, the voices of crows, ravens and vultures. They didn't sound too friendly either. "Radar! We have to sneek in there!" Magic whispered. I heard a squawk. It sounded like the bird that had captured Slither. then I heard a bird cackle "So, we have snake, do we?" "Oh man, I don't want to do this!," Stinger moaned. I felt simpathy for him and replied "I never said you had to." Stinger thought about this for a moment, and insisted "But you've been so unselfesh, and you've saved my life more than once! It's only fair that I am nice in return, even though I realllly don't want to do this." I always felt touched when the beanies acted so kind to me, and yet I deserved respect, being important, smart, brilliant, and ofcourse having and irrisistable personality. We entered the tunnel. the tunnel was very bright, and well lit. Princess climbed off of Magic's back, and tipptoed close behinde me. "There's Slither. Is it just me, or are they using him as a tether ball?" At first I thought it was a joke, but then I saw it too; Slither was coiled tightly around a soccer ball on a string attatched to a stick. The vultures were playing tether ball, some of the crows watched, and the other ravens and crows were playing pool. Me, being me, confident of my power and importance, I burst into the room, and with a few swipes of my wings, I knocked all of the vultures over. "WHAT do you think you're doing to my best friend?!" I said in a raged voice. "Yikes! It's Radar! He looks real mad" squawk one of the ravens, who nearly fell off his chair. I glared at the bird who had captured Slither in the first place. "Why, Radar. What a pleasure to see you, err..." it said in a nervous squawk, while inching towards the door. I hissed like an angry cat. With that, all of the birds fled. "Well, I guess that takes care of that" said Stinger, still trembling. I uncoiled a very upset Slither from the soccer ball. "Slither, don't worry. We're going to teach those birds a lesson. Well, after the partie's over, that is" I said softly. "Oh, THANK you!" he cried. "Party?" Magic asked. "Well what did you expect? C'mon, I'll race you back" I said happily, and we all raced through the darkness, and when we arrived at Beanieland, all of the beanies started cheering when they saw the flash of my red eyes. We partied long into the night, and a few minutes before the party ended, Batty flew up to me and asked "Are you doing anything tommorrow?" "Well, no, I had nothing planned. Why?" I answered. "Well, I was wondering if we could do something fun together, that beanies usually don't get to do. You know, like hang glyding, sky diving,-" "Well I don't know about sky diving" I said, imagining us falling out of and airplane, screaming, and totally forgetting that we had wings. "But we could have a vacation. But really, I don't care to go to earth, because some secondary market dealer may capture us, thinking that we are no different from our bean bag merchandise toys that Ty makes. But, we could go to Anitra. I've heard it's a lovely planet with no pollution, and I can introduce you to some of my friends, such as the griffins." I paused as Zero and Waddle walked past us. "Hey, what are you talking about?" asked Waddle. "Nothing that concerns you guys" Batty said. She waited until they were safely out of hearing range and suggested that she knew a few beanies that would really want to come with. I pulled out a notepad and wrote the names down; Ants, Stinger, Jake, Gobbles, Gracie, Scorch, Teenie Patti, Tank, and Flash. "Okay, I guess it wouldn't hurt to bring a few of our friends with. They could keep us company," I said, looking over the list several times. To tell the truth, I felt relieved that she didn't say 'Sly.' Sly is quite a trouble maker, and some of the other Beanie Babies think he is so mean that he should have to live in the swamp. I know that he wouldn't dare insult me, but he seems to be mean to many of the others, especially Sunny the preemie chicky He always calls Sunny scrambled eggs, or eggroll, or omlet, and I know that there is nothing Sunny hates worse than being called anything with the word "egg." *** The next day we asked the other nine Beanie Babies if they wanted to come along, and they gladly excepted the invitation. "Yeah!!!! We're going to another planet with lots of cool dragons-" Stinger started. "Griffins," corrected Flash. "Yeah, yeah, whatever," he snapped. Ants was searching through his room, saying "Has anyone seen my CD player?" "You mean this?" Sunny said, banging against it. "Uh, yeah. That CD player," Ants rolled his eyes and continued packing. It was several hours before we finished packing, and we stopped to rest. "Okay, does everyone have all of their stuff ready?" asked Scorch. "Yeah" Flash said quietly. "But how are we going to get to Anitra? Because I really don't want to go by car," Stinger complained. "Well, let's see. We could go by Sky, Water, or, um, space," said Jake, counting on his toes. "Well ofcourse we would have to use a space ship to leave Beanieland. But for traveling to certian parts of that planet? I think we should use an airplane" said Gobbles. "Yeah!" said Teenie Patti. "Alright, we'll leave tommorow morning then, 10:00" I confirmed. After that we all went our seperate ways and went to bed. I sat up in my bed, wondering why this vacation plan had been so spontanious. I sat there for a while, wondering what the next day would bring. I opened my eyes, the next morning, and saw a huge red parrot staring at me. "AAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!" I screamed. "Hey! Relax, it's only me. Stinky told me about the vacation you were going on, and I just got so jealous! Can I come? Huh? Huh?" I looked at Jabber for a long hard moment, wondering about why he had to be standing by my bed. "Well, the spaceship we are taking only has room for eleven beanies, including me. So the only way you could come with would be if one of the other beanies that was planning to come was sick," I told him. Then I thought of Ants. The night before, he had seemed unhappy about something. I glanced at the calender hanging from the wall. It was close to his late birthday party. Ofcourse! That was why! He never told me that he was having a birthday party then. I explained to Jabber about his birthday party, and about how much some of his friends probably wanted to come. So, knowing how much he wanted to come, you can imagine how Jabber felt when I said that he could go with us. Then, I ran out the door to talk to Ants. Jabber's Veiw Point Yeah, it's me, Jabber. So why am I telling this part of the story? Radar thought the story would be more fun for the readers if me and the other beanies switched veiws. So now I will tell some of the story. We stayed in Beanieland that morning long enough for me to pack, and for us to have breakfast. Then, we boarded the space ship. I waved to all of the birds, and to Ants, and I was about to wave to Goldy, but then Batty grabbed me and pulled me into the spaceship. I was tingling with ecxitement as the countdown began. "10...9...8...7...6...5..." "Oh, I can't wait till we arrive! We're going to planet Anitra! The planet with the big cascading waterfalls and ferns everywhere!" I shouted. I flapped around the spaceship. "4...3..." "Be quite, Jabber!" Stinger said, and made a wild grab for my tail. "...2...1, BLASTOFF!" The ship started vibrating, and we shot up into the sky. I looked down and saw the other beanies far below, looking up at us. They looked no bigger than flies. "By the way, who's driving this thing?" I squawked. "Driving? Who said anything about driving? This isn't a car, and also, it's one of those Auto-Ships that Radar made so you can program it to go to a certain planet and it will do all of the steering for you," Scorch said, turning so he could face me. I looked around at the others and Teenie Patti started turning green. "I don't feel good" she moaned, and fell over. "This is going to be a loooong ride" Tank said. "Not exactly" Radar said, and he pointed out the window. "Y-you mean we're there already?" I said. It was true. Either the planet was really close to Beanieland, or the spaceship was really, really fast. I could see the planet, getting closer and closer. We were in it's gravitational pull. I could see the oceans, the beatiful oceans, and thde land was so green! And the rivers- Flask interrupted my thoughts. "I hope this thing knows how to land," she murmered...To be continued.
