Sin

In all major religions, an unethical act in disobedience to a personal God.

In ancient Israel, there were personal sin and national sin- usually idolatry.

Some Christians hold that all acts are good, indifferent, or sinful;

others that there are no indifferent acts.

Roman Catholics are required to confess mortal sins, i.e., those committed with

knowing and deliberate intent in a serious matter (see PENANCE );

other sins are venial.

The seven deadly sins are pride, covetousness, lust, anger, gluttony, envy,

and sloth.
