EVENTS

( Save Our Schools )

Thursday, December 3rd- COUNCIL PRESENTATION:

The Ottawa Carleton District School Board Head Office is at 133 Greenbank Rd.  Come to the Head Office. Daycare, Gifted Program, and Area Review groups will be giving presentations.  The more information we have the better our chances of working this out.

Saturday, December 5th- CRAFT SALE

Come out to McNabb Park Community Center at 160 Percy St. for a craft sale in support of keeping schools and daycare open and available.  10 AM to 4 PM

Tuesday, December 8th- OPEN MEETING:

Come to Assembly Hall at McNabb Park for 7:30 pm to get more information and stay on top of the situation as it develops.  Things are still getting organized and you can help.  On the invited list are Jim Watson, Bob Chiarelli, Elizabeth Arnold (City Councilor), Diane Holmes (Regional Councilor) and Albert Chamber (School Trustee).  Your views are important - Speak Out !

Wednesday, December 9th- RALLY:

A large rally being organized by "Save our Schools, Save our Communities" group.
PUT KIDS FIRST!
Close schools without the facts? WE CAN ALL DO BETTER
10,000 students in unhealthy portables instead of new schools? WE CAN ALL DO BETTER
A School Board that ignores 10,000 hours of community consultation? WE CAN ALL DO BETTER
Tell Ottawa-Carleton's school trustees to:
STAND UP FOR OUR KIDS
STAND UP FOR OUR COMMUNITIES
Make signs identifying who you represent (organization, center, or school) and come to the Human Rights Monument on Elgin and Lisgar at 12:30 PM.  Call some friends, lets get a real crowd together for this.

Saturday, December 12th- DOOR TO DOOR CANVASSING:

Volunteers are needed to canvas the community with a petition, flyers and information about McNabb's current situation.  Everyone should come out to help!  Meet the challenge, donate two hours and call Annie Deutsch at 736-9551

Get involved! The time to sit back and be at our ease, trusting blindly in our elected leaders will never come.  Our Provincial Government for all its 'common sense' clearly does not have the interests of our children at the heart in its proposed school closures.  The Funding Formula cooked up in Bill 160 is deeply flawed.  Read all that you can about it, follow some of the links on this site.  Don't let Harris push this through . YOU HAVE A SAY !  Despite what some people would have us believe, Canada is not a 'Democratically Elected Dictatorship'.  If we, as a community and as communities raise up our voices as one, demanding that our will be respected, we do no more than is our right and responsibility as vigilant taxpayers.  Contact your Member of Parliament, be heard!  After all, apathy kills.
