~~ALLAN'S "FIRST CONTACT" PAGE~~

Compared to the previous expansions, I do not have many cards which have "First Contact" on them. I DO have some cards, however, and one of them is the one you see on this page, the Enterprise-E. What a card!! And what is great is that I recently traded for three personnel who have the staffing icon--including Jean-Luc Picard himself. Now I have a chance against the Borg.

Can you find Waldo?

Another rare card I have is the Phoenix, the first human faster-than-light space ship. It requires two staff and the OCD, which only one person has-- can you guess who?? (I have him too, now.) Any way, it's worth 10 point while in orbit, so that can boost you over the top if you can make it happen.

>This expansion, "First Contact," is a great add-on to the Star Trek Customizable Card Game. It does SO many new things to the game, and truly creates an evironment for the expansion set. The cards selected to represent the movie greatly reflect the mood and style of the movie, efeectively transfering that to the game.
>The most important add-on in this set is the new affiliation of the Borg. These drones are nasty. They will assimilate anything they can get their hands on, or do their best to destroy it. And with 9/24/24, the Queen's Borg Cube is one tough cookie.
>The cards available in this set are primarily for the Federation and Borg, though most of the event/interrupts are useful to anyone. This is the best and almost only way to get the cards needed for a Borg deck, but one such deck will be powerful. Also, the Federation cards represented here are very balanced and can be valuable to any Federation deck.
>Personnally, I like the dark mood portrayed by these cards, as the pictures below demonstrate. Many other examples are in the set, including the Ready Room Door, Assimilate This!, some of the personnel cards, and others. The foreboding and death-like nature of the Borg makes me want the Federation to triumph even more! And the cards are in this deck for that to happen, too.
>Another advance in the set is the addition of the senior staff. These cards are different than the originals in pictures, descriptions, skills, and usefulness. Although I am still unsure if these are personas--though I wouldn't bet against it--their new skills are certainly beneficial, especially in combination with the first crew. (The Enterprise-E icon also has effects with other cards in this expansion.) In addition to this, the changes of each person form the series to the movie is noticeable and helpful.
>The expansion set is a huge step in keeping the Federation defensively strong, especially against the Borg. Who else is going to stop them?? :)

Card Highlights
I am beginning a site on highlights of cards in the expansion. I hope to expand my highlights soon to have helpful information on how to use to cards. For now, these are valuable cards to include in your decks. The current Federation hightlight is William T. Riker. The Borg highlight is Assimilate Planet. If you would like a card to be highlighted, please send suggestions to my e~mail, honestal@rocketmail.com.

¤Effects of the Borg to the CCG¤
>The emergence of the Borg affiliation has had a great effect on the Star Trek CCG game. The Borg have become a real threat to other decks while the set has brought many new elements which have strengthened non-Borg affiliations, especially the Federation.
>The very nature of the Borg is a foreboding threat to any opposition. They will continue to attempt to carryout their goals and objectives, adapting to obstacles and having very little regard for small losses. Although some may view the Borg as slow, most can be sure that their victory is inevitable--unless their opposition wins first. This continuously-clicking clock is another threat.
>An example of the power that the Borg hold is their military strength. Through a cube requires seven drones to staff, its stats are frightening to any non-Borg ship. If they have a reason to pick a fight, the Borg have a good chance of surviving.
>And even if they do lose a ship or an entire away team, it is probable that the Borg player will have more in reserve, as the cube, scout, and all drones are common. And if the Borg feel threatened by a loss, they could assimilate opposing personnel to join their ranks. That is the time to be scared.
>Not all is so dismal, however, Along with these threats, affiliations have gained strengths, against the Borg in particular. The Federation has more cards at its disposal in which it can for a better defense strategy and become more diversified. Ready Room Door is just one example, as it is a great card of many uses for any deck. Also, new personas of bridge crew have brought out different sides of the characters; William Riker's ability to download a Borg defense interrupt.
>So make sure that you make good use of these helps, as you might find youirself up against the Borg, where "resistance is futile."

~~Decipher has come out with a new version of First Contact, entitled "Enhanced First Contact," which will contain brand-new cards to add to your Borg decks. Somehow, they got away with making up characters that were never seen or even mentioned on the series or movie, but are going on the thought that in another parrallel, the Borg nearly took over the Alpha Quadrant. Thus, they have made very awesome additions to the counterparts for the Borg affiliation, and a card that will make one for other affilations nearly as useful. You can go to Decipher's Enhanced First Contact card list to view them for yourself. They are all very cool cards!
~A new card type, an incident, is included with these premium cards. It is played at the same time as events or objectives and usually has long-lasting effects similar to an event. However, it cannot be nullified by cards that normally nullify events, plus can't be closed like doorways, and so they are even more powerful in these way. Everyone watch out for the Borg!
