Ernie Harwell

For, lo, the winter is past,
The rain is over and gone;
The flowers appear on the earth;
The time of the singing of birds is come,
And the voice of the turtle is heard in our land.

As we all cherish this last season of Ernie Harwell's radio broadcasts, it seems an appropriate time to begin lobbying the President to award Mr. Harwell the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The Medal of Freedom is our nation's highest civilian honor. Recent recipents include Bill Cosby, Katherine Graham, Placido Domingo, Iriving Kristol, Hank Aaron, and Nelson Mandela.

A veteran of World War II, a role model, a writer, and an active member of the community, Mr. Harwell's life transends the broadcast booth. Send President Bush an e-mail or a letter asking him to award the Medal of Freedom to Ernie Harwell.
