Chapter Four

Holly’s high-tops hit the pavement hard and fast as she ran down the back ally. She raced past a row of shops, her pigtails flying behind her. She attracted quite a lot of attention.

“Hey, isn’t that Princess Holly?”

“Of Venus, right?”

“Yeah, that’s it!”

“I didn’t know she could run like that! Is she allowed outside of the palace?”

“I dunno...”

Holly lifted her head up higher, letting them know that she was in fact, the daughter of Mina, Queen of Venus.

Denise’s purple sneakers were flying down the street, making her hair stream out like a brown banner. Her green sweater was buttoned tightly over her purple designer shirt. The Princess’s green mini-skirt prevented her from running any faster, and she scolded herself for not wearing shorts. She could see people shaking their heads, probably at the sight of the Princess of Mars, running around without any supervision. Denise didn’t mind, though. She just grinned and turned the corner, heading straight for the park.

Abby sprinted for the meeting spot, her blue tennis shoes leaving imprints in the soft dirt underfoot. She had cut through the woods, taking the well-known path that she had used many a time to escape from Coral. Her dark blue pullover sweater, covering a light blue tee, was little warmth in the dark, dank forest she loved so much. Abby shivered and wished she had worn pants, or at least a heavier coat. The girl quickly laughed at the thought. ‘Why?’ she reassured herself, trying to believe that her blue shorts were fine. ‘It’s only cold in the woods. It’ll be warm once I reach the park.’ The Princess quicken her pace as the outskirts of the biggest park in Tokyo came into view.

Krissy smiled. She was sitting on the edge of the fountain, playing with the little streams of water. She had had the shortest route, the main road, and she was the fastest runner. Krissy was expecting Holly any minute. She was majorly worried about the test later that day, and her attempts to push the thought out of her mind failed miserably.

Holly came up slowly behind Krissy and laid a hand on her friend’s shoulder. Krissy didn’t even have to turn around.

“Hey Holly,” she said sadly.

The young Princess of Venus had enough sense to know the something was really bugging her friend. Holly also knew that Krissy wouldn’t listen to her unless she didn’t give a lecture. Even though Holly was Krissy’s best friend, Krissy would not take any lectures.

“Krissy...” Holly encouraged, taking a seat beside her friend. “I know you can pass that test!”

Krissy looked up. “No, I can’t!”

Holly smiled. “Of course you can! You just have to believe in yourself!”

“You’re lecturing...”

“Sorry...anyway, you can outrun any of us, you know that!”

“I guess you’re right...” Krissy faintly smiled. “But...”

Holly winked. “I know you might not have the other talents, but together the four of us make a great team!”

“We all have a certain strong point,” the blond continued. “Abby has the agility, you have the speed, Denise has the endurance, and I have the stealth. When we all think and work together, we always come up with great plans! Even if you don’t pass, we’ll stick by your side and we’ll always believe in you!”

“That’s right!”

“You’re our friend, Krissy!”

Krissy and Holly looked up at Denise and Abby.

“Hey guys, what took ya so long?”

Abby grinned. “Well, I see that cheered you up, Krissy!”

Krissy laughed. “Holly was always a good motivational speaker...even if she does lecture a bit!”
