Tsukino Usagi yawned and glanced down at the busy streets of Toyko.
Or should I say Crystal Tokyo? thought Usagi, still appalled that this was the same place as Chibi Usa's kingdom.
Future, she's not queen yet, she thought darkly. And she won't be if she keeps up that attitude of hers!
She sighed, for she knew what had caused her to be so upset.
Mamo-chan. That jerk. How dare he choose to spend the afternoon with Chibi Usa! He was hers long before there was even a Chibi Usa.
Well, she scowled, I'll be darned if I let him ruin my afternoon! I'll just spend the afternoon by myself, who needs Mamo-chan anyway!
She sighed again.
I do. I need Mamo-chan.
At the headquarters of the Black Moon, a woman named Esmeraude was laughing hysterically as she watched a new fancy charm and jewelry store.
"So this is a nega-point! How quaint! Once this place is filled with dark energy, the Dark Gate will open and suck this pathetic planet into darkness! Then I can go back to Demando, and for my accomplishment he will make me his queen, and we shall rule not only Crystal Tokyo, but the entire universe! Those sappy Sailor Senshi won't stand a chance!" She laughed again. "I command you, Opalette, come forth!"
Opalette was the warrior in charge of capturing the nega-point. Even Esmeraude had to admit that Opalette's looks were passable. Even as a warrior, you could not tell that she worked for the Black Moon. She had midnight black hair that cascaded past her waist. Her outfit was dark red and was a simple mini skirt and tank top that was adorned with opals. On the outside they were beautiful, but each had a secret weapon concealed inside that only Opalette knew how to activate. Each could kill a human.
"Yes, mistress," Opalette said, bowing low, "what is asked of me?"
"What is your progress, Opalette?"
"Dark energy is growing. In no time at all, we shall have the nega-point conquered! These weak humans flock to us by the dozen, wanting 'good luck' charms! They are swiftly turning into slaves for the Black Moon!" Esmeraude laughed.
"Splendid job, Opalette! Do not fail me like the others though," she warned, "otherwise Demando will not be happy."
And Saffiru will surely have a laugh then, thought Esmeraude.
"I will not mistress. Sailormoon and those bratty Senshi shall not win this time! I shall see to it that they don't!" She bowed again, and then disappeared.
"Opalette! What a gal! She will surely win! That will show Saffiru a thing or two!" She laughed wildly.
"Oh," said Usagi, as she checked out the sign of the new charm and jewelry store, "so this is the store that Naru-chan was talking about, huh? Looks very chic. If only Mamo-chan had thought about coming here with me instead of going to the mall with Chibi Usa! Well, here goes!" Usagi squared her shoulders and marched into the store.
Chiba Mamoru was standing by himself in the store, while Chibi Usa rushed back and forth, finding new things to scream over. He was holding his wallet, and right after Chibi Usa's shopping spree, it was very empty.
"Uh, Chibi Usa-chan?" he called out to her.
"Yes, Mamo-chan?" she asked innocently. Mamoru winced. He was going to regret saying this. For some reason, Chibi Usa was exactly like Usagi. They both could eat enough for a whole city in one day. They also had massive temper tantrums.
"Well, I ran out of money, so that means I can't buy anymore stuff for you."
"WHAT?! Why don't you keep track of your money, Mamo-chan? How could you run out of money? It's just like Usagi-chan! I wanted to go to that new charm and jewelry store too! Mamo-chan!" Chibi Usa screamed.
"Well. . . uh," Mamoru stuttered, as Chibi Usa looked at him with wide, demanding eyes. "I can't Chibi Usa, why don'y you ask Rei-san or Ami-san? I'm sure that they would love to take you." Chibi Usa frowned harder.
"Mamo-chan!!" she wailed.
Okay, thought Mamoru, end of shopping spree. Maybe Usako can handle her. Wait a second, I don't think that Usako will be very forgiving since I went with Chibi Usa to go shopping. Drat, good going Mamoru, now everyone is peeved at you.
"Come on Chibi Usa, time to go home," he said, as he dragged a screaming Chibi Usa out the store.
"MAMO-CHAN!!!" she hollered at the top of her lungs.
Ah, thought Opalette, another servant for the Black Moon, as she watched Usagi march in.
"Hello!" Opalette said in a cheerful voice. "My name is Opal, and welcome to Charmed! We have a grand opening sale today! All opal jewelry are half off! So go ahead, look around! Surely you can find something of interest!"
"Thank you," said Usagi, "but I really just wanted to see what you have. I don't think I have enough money to buy anything anyway."
"But surely you don't need money to look around! Why don't you at least look at our selection? Maybe you could get some ideas for gifts?" Usagi looked at the dazzling stones surrounding her, and didn't need anymore urging. She was all over the place, looking at this counter, and then another. Even Opalette had trouble keeping track of Usagi.
"Oh wow! This is so pretty!" gushed Usagi. It was a delicate silver chain necklace with a small charm. The center of the charm was a cubic zirconian heart surrounded by four stones. Usagi gasped because it represented the Sailor Senshi. The stones consisted of a ruby, a sapphire, an emerald, and a topaz. Opalatte smiled in satisfaction.
"I see that you have found something. Wonderful choice! One of our best items!"
"That must mean it is very expensive. I can't take it." Usagi started to put the precious necklace down.
"Wait!" rushed Opalette. She couldn't just let this girl walk out empty-handed! Never! "I can tell that you have a good heart. You deserve this necklace."
"You can? How?" asked Usagi. This was a difficult task, seeing how Opalette was not inclined to seeing good things that was connected to Earth.
"Your eyes," she finally came up with, "they tell much about you. You have a kindred soul. That's why I'm going to sell this to you for 2,000 yens."
"2,000 yens?! That's like stealing it!" Opalette smiled.
"Don't worry, there is no catch, and you certainly aren't stealing it." Usagi licked her lips nervously.
What a tempting offer, thought Usagi. Even if it isn't real, 2,000 yens isn't that much.
Usagi made her decision.
"I'll take it!" Opalette smiled wickedly.
"Excellent."
Unknown to Usagi, the necklace started to work its dark powers on her. It had to work hard though, becuase Usagi was very powerful, but it worked the hardest when she was sleeping. This was when she was most vulnerable. If Usagi had been a regular girl, she would have turned into a slave for the Black Moon, but because she was Sailormoon, the necklace had a different effect. Black Moon power filled her mind and her soul. This made her become much more powerful and more evil than all the members of the Black Moon family. Even though Usagi had indeed turned evil, she did not know it. She thought she was just being her usual self. All her friends could tell that she was slowly changing though. Into someone that even Sailormoon herself could not control.
"Opalette," Esmeraude commanded, "come forth!"
"Yes mistress," Opalette appeared, bowing low, "what is your command?"
"Tell me of your progress."
"The nega-point is almost ours! Because our charms take over the humans quietly, the Sailor Senshi do not suspect a thing! I just wish I knew who they were, then I can double the effect of the charms!"
"Patience, Opalette. Surely at least one of the brats have come to the store! One against the others is enough for now. Your progress is good Opalette, keep it up. I want to return to the 30th century as soon as possible!"
"Yes mistress, I understand," Opalette said, and then she disappeared.
Chibi Usa was wandering off on her own again, against Usagi's wishes. She decided to go see Charmed. Opalette smiled fakely when she saw the child walk in.
"Hello child! And why are you all alone?"
"Because I wanted to see the store!" Chibi Usa started to run around, causing most of the displays to fall over.
"That's too bad, because we're closing!" Opalette said with as much calm as she could muster. "Now get out before I call your mother!"
"My mommy's not here, she's somewhere else!" Chibi Usa shouted back. "Anyway, my mommy is a queen, so she would hurt you if you dared to lay a hand on me, so there!" Chibi Usa stuck her tongue out at Opalette, causing her to become more angry. Chibi Usa's words flew right past her ears. Opalette transformed herself into the warrior she was.
"I'm so sorry, but I'm afraid that you must go now. I cannot stand loud kids!" Opalette reached for Chibi Usa, but stopped when Chibi Usa started to scream. "Shut up! Shut up!!" Opalette gasped when she saw the crescent moon symbol on Chibi Usa's forehead. "What is this? Small Lady?!"
"Oh no!" cried Usagi. "Chibi Usa's in trouble! I have to go help her! Luna, get the others and meet me at Charmed!" Luna paused.
"How did you know that, Usagi?" Luna asked.
"I, uh -- just guessed." Luna looked at her suspiciously. Usagi avoided looking at Luna's eyes. "Well, I have to go save Chibi Usa. Again." she said darkly. Luna gasped in shock. Usagi laughed nervously. "Did I say that? Silly me. Well, gotta go!" She sprinted out of the room.
"Something is up with Usagi," Usagi said to herself, "she's not her usual self. I must tell the others before something terribly wrong happens.
Usagi was running to find Chibi Usa. As she ran, she brought out her Moon Compact from her pocket. She held it high in the air and shouted,
"Moon Crystal Power!"
It opened, revaling the Illusion Silver Crystal inside. Pink ribbons enveloped her body, transforming her into the sailor-suited soldier of love and justice, Sailormoon!
"Chibi Usa-chan, don't worry! I'm coming!" Sailormoon whispered.
"Someone help me!!" Chibi Usa cried, as she struggled to get free of Opalette.
"No one can save you now, Small Lady!" Opalette "Stop!" shouted a voice. "Who's there?" demanded Opalette. "How dare you turn this store into an object for the Black Moon? Charms are suppose to help people, not turn them against each other! For love and justice, I am the beautiful sailor-suited soldier, Sailormoon! In the name of the moon, I will punish you!" "Sailormoon!" Chibi Usa cried happily as she ran to wrap herself around Sailormoon's legs. "You came to save me!" "Of course, Chibi Usa-chan! I would never let the Black Moon harm you!" "Hey Sailormoon!" another voice called out. "Would you like some help?" "The Sailor Senshi!" Sailormoon said excitedly. "Great, just what I need, more teenagers in sailor suits." scoffed Opalette. "Well, I am not leaving without Small Lady!" she pulled out a long opal chain from an opal on her outfit. "Small Lady, you are mine!" she threw the chain in Chibi Usa's direction. Chibi Usa gasped in fright. "Chibi Usa-chan!" Sailormoon cried. She shoved Chibi Usa aside, and the deadly chain meant for Chibi Usa got Sailormoon instead. It clung her to the ground and electrocuted her with dark power. Sailormoon screamed in pain. Opalette laughed cruelly. "How perfect! Prince Demando will surely reward me for this!" "Sailormoon!" the Senshi screamed. "Sparkling Wide Pressure!" "Shine Aqua Illusion!" "Burning Mandala!" "Venus Love Me Chain!" "Sailor Senshi Power!" they all cried together, uniting their powers. They aimed it at Opalette. She died screaming her loyalty to the Black Moon. Even though Opalette was destroyed though, her chain still remained. "What are we going to do?" Jupiter asked worriedly. "Sailor Senshi, help me!" Sailormoon begged with wide, imploring eyes. "Please, help me! Mamo-chan! I need you!" Mamoru glanced up from his computer in his apartment. Usako's in trouble, he thought. I must go help her! He transformed into Tuxedo Kamen. I'm coming Usako! I'm coming! Prince Demando sensed that his beloved Serenity was in danger. He could also sense that she was wearing a Black Moon charm. He smiled in satisfaction. He would not only save her, he would use that charm to make her his. "Do not worry Serenity. You shall be my queen soon, and we will finally be together. Endymion does not deserve you, and will never will!" "Look!" Venus cried. "That necklace on Sailormoon! It's glowing!" "That's it!" Mercury said. "It's generating a very powerful energy! It's very possible that she got it from Opalette! We have to get it off her!" "No one is going to touch her. " a male voice warned softly. "Who are you?" Jupiter demanded. "I am Prince Demando, ruler of the Black Moon family. Opalette happened to be one of my best warriors." "So sorry that we had to kill her," Mars said snidely. "That is okay, because Opalette can be replaced. With Serenity." The Senshi gasped. "Princess Serenity would never work for you!" argued Venus. "But after the betrayal of her four closest friends, she will." "She knows we would never do that! We all love her!" Mercury said hotly. "Are you so blind Sailor Senshi, that you cannot see the truth? Do you know how long she has been wearing that necklace? It has been filling her with dark power! A few more words from me, and she will turn to the Black Moon. Look at her, Sailor Senshi. See how calm she is, even though Opalette's chain still remains?" He was right. Sailormoon had stopped moving, and not a sound came from her. Prince Demando started walking in her direction, but a red rose came flying and landed right in front of him. "Who's there?" Prince Demand said angrily. "I will not allow you to harm the Moon Princess!" A man in a black tuxedo and black cape stepped out from the shadows. "For I am Tuxedo Kamen, and my word is law!" Prince Demando laughed harshly. "Prince Endymion trying to play hero again! How sweet! Well, you are not going to win this time! Princess Serenity will be mine! I don't really care for Small Lady anymore!" He infused the charm with more dark power as he started to talk to Sailormoon. "Serenity, I beg you to trust me! I would never hurt you like everyone else! Remember how they all hurted you? Prince Endymion, the Sailor Senshi, even Small Lady! They all have hurt you! Why protect people who have wounded you so deeply? They don't even respect you as their princess, their leader! Why spare them?" He was watching Sailormoon as he said this, and her eyes had opened. A single tear had fallen. In her eyes were pain, fear, and anger. She looked at Prince Demando, and all she saw was love. For her. A klumsy girl that no one loved, no one who would take care of her. But a prince actually loved clutzy Tsukino Usagi. Sailormoon started remembering all the sad memories of her past. "Just stay away from me, okay?" Mamoru said harshly. "I never want to see you again!" "But Mamo-chan!" Usagi cried. "I thought you loved me! You said you would always love me! How can you leave me alone?!" "Don't call me that anymore, got it? I never loved you! Never!!" Mamoru walked away, leaving a sobbing Usagi alone on the streets. "Ha! I knew that Mamo-chan would dump you!" Chibi Usa laughed. "It's because you're such an odango atama! Why else would he call you that, huh?" "Get it straight, you Odango Atama!" Rei yelled. "You're such an airhead! No wonder you can't get good grades in school, and no wonder Mamoru-san dumped you! No one in his right mind would want you!" "Ami-chan, Mako-chan, Minako-chan," Usagi begged, "won't you help me?" "I'm sorry Usagi-chan," Minako said sadly, "but we agree with Rei-chan. You are a ditz, and you don't pay attention in school. It's hard to imagine anyone wanting to be around you. You can be a danger to everyone's health." Makoto and Ami slowly nodded their heads in agreement. "We told you Usagi," Luna scolded, "that if you didn't pull your act together, everyone would ditch you. Now see, the Senshi can barely think, and you are here sobbing like a child." "I am a child Luna!" Usagi cried through her tears. "I am only 14 years old!" "Well you could at least try to act more mature," Artemis said disapprovingly. "Look at Minako, Makoto, Rei and Ami. They are the exact same age as you, but do they act like you? No! They act like ladies, but you, you Usagi, you're a disgrace to your friends. You're a disappointment to your mother and the Moon Kingdom." Why protect these people? thought Sailormoon. They have given me nothing but pain! Nothing! From now on, the only person I love is myself! Only myself! She slowly stood up. Opalette's chain fell to the floor. The Senshi were apalled. "How could she have done that?" Mars cried. "She couldn't get rid of it before!" Jupiter said. Prince Demando chuckled. "You really don't get it, do you, Sailor Senshi? The reason that she was able to defeat the Black Moon chain is because she is filled with dark power! You all have hurt her too much. Never again will anyone hurt! Watch as Serenity becomes the Queen of Darkness!" he laughed wickedly. "My queen." "NO!" the Senshi cried. "Sailormoon!" "Usako!" Tuxedo Kamen shouted. "Princess Serenity!" Luna and Artemis yelled. "Usagi-chan," Chibi Usa whispered. But it was too late. Sailormoon transformed into the Evil Mistress. Her tiara disappeared and the Black Moon symbol replaced it. Her sailor outfit was replaced by a long black dress with spaghetti straps. Her hair had dark pink and red ribbons. On her feet were black high heels. Her hand held a staff that had a globe on the top with the Black Moon symbol. Around her neck was the necklace from Opalette, glowing as brightly as the sun, vibrating with dark power. She smiled a smile that was pure evil, for that was what she was now. "I have not yet introduced myself. I am known as the Queen of Darkness, Evil Mistress!" she said triumphantly. She turned to Prince Demando. "Demando, I know that you had wanted me to be your queen, but I really don't want to get tied down right now." Prince Demando was shocked. "But I'm the one who made you so powerful! You were suppose to be grateful to me!" Prince Demando argued. "Excuse me? I was already powerful. You little bauble simply added to my superiority. Besides, you can never measure up to me." Evil Mistress smiled smugly. "You opened my eyes, Demando. I now realize that I have been too dependent on others. I'm going to work alone from now on. If I want your help, I'll call you." she turned to look at the Senshi dangerously. "But since you did help me realize the truth, I will grant you one favor. You want Small Lady, don't you? That is easy." she slowly walked toward Chibi Usa's direction. Chibi Usa gasped and tightened her hold on Luna P. "No Sailormoon!" the Senshi cried. "We don't want to harm you, Usagi-chan!" Mercury said. "But we can't let you take Chibi Usa-chan!" Venus added. They all stood in front of Chibi Usa, protecting her with their bodies. Evil Mistress laughed harshly. "Give me a break, Sailor Senshi! You cannot hold me off! I can easily destroy all of you! Before I was changed, I fought for love and justice! But let me ask you, how much of that is really in this world? Love! It does not matter how strong it is. If the other person hurts you, who cares about love?" she glared at Tuxedo Kamen. "I was foolish enough to actually think that Prince Endymion loved me! What a joke! Well, no more! If you do not move Sailor Senshi, I will force you!" They still did not move. "We believe in you, Sailormoon!" Mars cried. "We know that you will never hurt us!" Jupiter said. "Sailormoon!" Luna cried. "Believe in yourself! You can fight the evil!" "Be quiet!!" Evil Mistress screamed. She raised her staff high above her head. "Black Whirling Wind. . .Clash!" The symbol on her staff glowed as it emitted a strong wind. It blew the Senshi all over the store. The blow knocked them all unconscious. Evil Mistress laughed. "Now who is more powerful?" she turned to Chibi Usa. "I am tired of protecting an ungrateful brat like you, Chibi Usa! Go ahead and cry all you want, but today is the day that you will never again see your precious mommy and Crystal Tokyo!" "I don't know what to do, Luna P," Chibi Usa whispered to her ball. "I don't want to hurt Usagi-chan, but if she captures me, I never will be able to see Mommy. Please help me Luna P, I need you!" A tear slid down Chibi Usa's face and fell on Luna P. Luna P started to glow brightly. Evil Mistress narrowed her eyes. Luna P floated out of Chibi Usa's arms and disappeared. In her place was. . . "Sailor Puu," Chibi Usa gasped. "Sailor Pluto," Evil Mistress said snidely, "how kind of you to stop by. I was sure that your sacred duty would have kept you fully occupied. No matter though, you cannot stop me." "Sailormoon," Pluto said, "surely you do not want to harm Small Lady. She is everything to you. Your pride and joy." Evil Mistress threw back her head and started to laugh. " 'My pride and joy?' You must be joking," Evil Mistress said, "my, age does have its disadvantages, doesn't it, Sailor Pluto?" "Surely you remember the marriage of King Endymion and Neo-Queen Serenity," Pluto said, "it was the grandest celebration." "Why should I even care?" Evil Mistress asked boredly. "That bond created Small Lady," Sailor Pluto continued, "who is also called Chibi Usa. Neo-Queen Serenity's former self was Princess Serenity of the Moon. King Endymion's former self was Prince Endymion of Earth. In the 20th Century, they fought the Dark Forces together as Sailormoon and Tuxedo Kamen." Sailor Pluto looked at Evil Mistress evenly. "You are Neo-Queen Serenity, Sailormoon. Small Lady is your daughter." Chibi Usa gasped. Evil Mistress glared at Sailor Pluto. "Do you really think that I will believe you, Sailor Pluto? You are as naive as the others! Fine, since Small Lady is my 'pride and joy', I'm sure that I can trust you to baby-sit her for me. Keep her safe Sailor Pluto, for I do not intend to deliver a dead body to Prince Demando." Evil Mistress raised her staff high in the air and disappeared. "This is perfect!" Wise Man said in his domain. "With Evil Mistress here, I can get rid of the Black Moon family! She is much more powerful than them anyway!" he laughed wickedly. "Are you okay, Sailor Senshi?" Pluto asked, as she helped the Senshi get up. "Yes," Mercury said breathlessly, "I believe so. Thank you Sailor Pluto." "I can't believe that Sailormoon really did blast us away," Jupiter said in shock. "That wasn't Sailormoon," Mars reminded her. "Yeah, the real Sailormoon would never have hurt us," Venus added. "It was the dark power in her," Pluto said. "It's all my fault," Chibi Usa whispered. "No Small Lady, it wasn't." Pluto said gently. "Neo-Queen Serenity would never blame you. She's still there, all we have to do now is bring her back. The light is much stronger than the darkness." "But I shouldn't have wandered off by myself. I know that, but I did it on purpose, just to make Usagi-chan angry. She has every right to be mad at me," she sadly looked at everyone else, "at all of us." They all looked down guiltily. They were all ashamed of themselves. "It won't do us any good to just stand here feeling sorry for ourselves," Pluto said, "is there a place where we can go to discuss this? We don't want to be around when the police get here." "We can go to Hendai Temple," Mercury suggested, "Sailor Mars lives there." "That's a good idea Sailor Mercury, lets split up and meet there in thirty minutes. Come as your regular selves," Tuxedo Kamen said tiredly. As the others left though, Tuxedo Kamen stayed behind, lost in his world. Mercury stopped and turned around. "Tuxedo Kamen," Mercury asked worriedly, "are you all right?" "I -- I feel lost, Mercury," Tuxedo Kamen said sadly, "I've lost Usako. Again." "Mamoru-san," Mercury said gently, placing a hand on his shoulder, "don't be so sad. Usagi-chan would be upset if she saw you like this. We haven't lost her Mamoru-san," Mercury said reassuringly, "we'll get her back. I promise." "Really, Ami-san?" Tuxedo Kamen said hopefully. "I know that we can do it, as long as we put our heads together and fight for her. We've been through worse, remember?" "Yeah, I remember. . .we even died." "Just believe Mamoru-san, believe in Usagi-chan. We'll get through this." Mercury smiled gently. "We always have." Tuxedo Kamen smiled back. "Thanks Ami-san, it means a lot to me that you care so much about Usako. You really love her, don't you?" "I do," Mercury agreed, "and I know that you also love her just as much, if not more." Mercury gave him a quick hug and left. Tuxedo Kamen smiled again as a tear slid down his face. "I do." Tuxedo Kamen said to the air. "I promise you Usako, I'll get you back. No matter what it takes." Tuxedo Kamen flew into the air, leaving a single red rose lying on the street. As the wind blew the petals away, the eternal song of love started to play. That's it for the first chapter, folks!
