Chapter Three Part One

It was Friday morning, exactly 2 more weeks until the production of Romeo and Juliet. Serena was so happy she could hardly contain her excitement. She was so excited she almost slipped up and told her little brother why she was so happy. She caught herself though then decided to leave the house so she wouldn’t be tempted. Grabbing her book of Shakespeare Plays and Poems she ran out of the house after a quick goodbye to her parents. She walked eagerly to the park and to the very same bridge she told Darien she would be his family. She smiled at the memory. She set the book down on the railing of the bridge and opened it to a Sonnet she had loved since she was a child. Closing her eyes she started to say it from memory.

“Mine eye and heart are at a mortal war
How to divide the conquest of thy sight;
Mine eye my heart thy picture's sight would bar,
My heart mine eye the freedom of that right.
My heart doth plead that thou in him dost lie--
A closet never pierced with crystal eyes--”

Standing in the middle of the bridge with her eyes closed and her hands out she recited those words. She was about to continue when a new voice interrupted her. Her eyes shot open and focused on that of Darien’s.

“And says in him thy fair appearance lies.
To 'cide this title is impanneled
A quest of thoughts, all tenants to the heart,
And by their verdict is determined
The clear eye's moiety and the dear heart's part:
As thus; mine eye's due is thy outward part,
And my heart's right thy inward love of heart”

When Darien was finished he looked into the shocked eyes of Serena. Her mouth was gaping open.

“D-Darien what are you doing here?”

“I came to your house to pick you up for rehearsal and your little brother said you went to the park. I don’t know why, but your father kept staring at me. I decided to look for you here.”

Serena gulped and laughed nervously.

“You like this Sonnet Darien?”

“Yep. I always thought it was so beautiful. I know it sounds funny, but I would always keep that Sonnet in mind when I would meet a girl. (Little chuckle) That was years ago though.”

“Does the Sonnet fit her?”

“What?”

“The girl you like. Does the Sonnet fit her?”

“It fits her like charm.”

“Have you told her yet?”

“No. I haven’t found away. I will soon though. I promise. Well, we better get to rehearsal. I wouldn’t want to disappoint ‘Barbie’ by not showing up would we?”

Serena giggled and they turned to walk to the Theater as Darien grabbed her book.

“What is her name any way?”

“I don’t know. We should really ask don’t you think? I feel bad when she speaks to me and I don’t know what to call her.”

Serena erupted in fits of laughter. Darien smiled at her. Unconsciously they clasped their hands together. They walked by the arcade and were so caught up in their conversation they didn’t hear the big crash coming from the arcade. Andrew stood in front of the door mouth gaping with his bottom lip on the floor, which was covered with broken glass, 4 different flavors of ice cream, and a splattered brown serving tray. He blinked his eyes a couple of times then pinched him self so he knew he wasn’t dreaming. Finally excepting what he saw he got a mop and absently mopped up the floor.

“All right people! We have exactly 2 weeks before our finale production! We must snap up everything! First off I want our Romeo and Juliet on stage please! You will act out the first time Romeo meets Juliet,”

The director clapped his hands in excitement then turned and sat in his chair. The lights were dimmed and focused on Serena and Darien.

ROMEO
Did my heart love till now? forswear it, sight!
For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night.
If I profane with my unworthiest hand This holy
shrine, the gentle sin is this: My lips, two blushing
pilgrims, ready stand To smooth that rough touch with
a tender kiss.
JULIET
Good pilgrim, you do wrong your hand too much, Which
mannerly devotion shows in this; For saints have
hands that pilgrims' hands do touch, And palm to palm
is holy palmers' kiss.
ROMEO
Have not saints lips, and holy palmers too?
JULIET
Ay, pilgrim, lips that they must use in prayer.
ROMEO
Well, then, dear saint, let lips do what hands do;
They pray, grant thou, lest faith turn to despair.
JULIET
Saints do not move, though grant for prayers' sake.
ROMEO
Then move not, while my prayer's effect I take. Thus
from my lips, by yours, my sin is purged.
JULIET
Then have my lips the sin that they have took.
ROMEO
Sin from my lips? O trespass sweetly urged! Give me
my sin again.
JULIET
You kiss by the book.

When Serena and Darien looked up they saw verybody in the Theater had stopped what they were doing and were staring at them. Serena blushed under their gaze and moved somewhat behind Darien. Everyone applauded them and returned to work. Serena was about to walk off stage when a bucket of red paint dumped all over Serena. Drenching her completely. (AN: Then her eyes started to glow red and the doors all closed trapping the people in and she burned down the Theater. Haha just joking ~_,^ Couldn’t help that one.) The director ran up to Serena a towel in hand.

“Miss. Serena are you all right?”

“Yes, yes, I’m fine.”

Serena pushed him gently away and walked out of the theater in tears. They heard laughing and saw ‘Barbie’ and her friends laughing hysterically. The director looked coldly at them.

“Miss. I do believe you are fired!”

The director stomped off and sat in his chair. Darien had started to run after her, but the ‘Barbie’ got in his way.

“Come now Darien. Why don’t you stay with me?”

“Because the one I love is hurt.”

He pushed pass her and ran after Serena. He ran to her house first then to the arcade and ended up in the part. He was about to pull his hair out when he saw the path to his parent’s grave up ahead of him. He walked swiftly over to it and saw red paint on one of them. He jogged threw the brush and down the path until he reached the end. He squatted so he was well hidden by the bush, but he had a good view of Serena. Her knees were drawn up to her chest and she was crying her eyes out. He got up from his position and walked over to Serena. Kneeling down he put his finger under her chin and raised her head to look at him. She launched herself into her arms. Red paint rubbed off of Serena and on to Darien.

“Serena it’s ok.”

“No it’s not Darien. She made a fool out of me. I am soaked with red paint!”

“You just got me smeared with it too.”

Serena looked up and looked at the paint covering Darien’s close. She started to giggle.

“I’m sorry Darien. (giggle, giggle.)”

“You think that’s funny do you?”

“Yes, very funny. (Giggle, giggle.)”

“Well, then you will just have to wash it off with me.”

Serena gasped and let out a little squeal when Darien scooped her up in his arms and ran out of the bushes.

“Darien put me down! Darien what on earth are you doing!”

He ran to the douche and stood on the very edge. Serena grabbed on to him for dear life.

“Darien don’t you even….. Eiiiiiiiiiiik!”
