Music Reviews

Hey this is just a simple little music review page. If you want to send me a review of something that you have heard just send it to me. I'm gonna try to keep all the reviews in alphabetical order and bunch multiple reviews of the same ablum (if we get any) together. If you send in a review all I ask is that you keep it clean or I will clean it up for you before posting it. Other than that I will post almost all reviews of underground music (including demos, but please do not send a review of your own demo). If you send a review your email will be posted with the review.

Buried Alive - The Death Of Your Perfect World
After seeing this band live a couple of times and listening to their two song demo constantly, I would have to say I am almost dissapointed with this release. Buried Alive is one of the best hardcore bands in the scene today, but I don't feel that this CD accurately captures their energy. All in all it's still a good CD compared to the competition though.

Cradle of Filth - Cruelty and the Beast
I love this album. Of course not for the lyrics, but I love the black metal sound. The stuff is so hautingly beautiful that I shiver when I hear the vocalist's high pitched screams to another's low growls. The guitars do the awesome single string picking to fast beats with the double bass sounding like a gun blasting your mind away. Even though these guys are pretty much into the darkside of life, thier music is beautiful. But don't buy the single cd. There is a bonus cd set with Iron Maiden covers on it. An extra 30 minutes of music. It costs the same amount too. REVIEWED BY: Josh Call Feb, 2000

Figure Four - No Weapon Armed Against Us (or something)
Those Chunucks have something to be proud of with these straight-up, in your face, hardcore heavies. These boys know what hardcore is about and they show it through thier music and lyrics. They do music in the style of NIV, Hatebreed, Buried Alive, and even some melodic metal tinges. These guys tear it up. They are out on Facedown Records.

Kid Brother Collective - Never Trust Yourself
If you are from Michigan and have not taken the time to listen to, or have never heard Kid Brother Collective, you need to wake up and smell the emo. K.B.C. is unfortunately from Flint. :) But that doesn't mean these guys can't rock. These guys have poppy songs and slow songs, and great emotional vocals that seem very sincere. On this particular e.p., there are three songs. They are all good. My favorite is the title track. It has this stop where the lead vocalist yells out "never trust yourself". It's great. The last song is just two guitarists playing melodies or each other with great vocals over. At the end there are back ups echoing the lead vocals. This is really good and you should pick it up, even if you think you are too metal.

No Innocent Victim - Flesh And Blood
I wasn't sure what to expect from this Victory Records release from one of my favorite bands. NIV plays fast and dance-able old school hxc with some pretty mean breakdowns. Well this ablum was no let down. This ablum is a lot more aggressive than any previous effort. Even the vocals are more screamed and less yelled if you know what I mean. All in all it's a contender for their best ablum yet. If not it's close.

Stretch Armstrong - Rituals of Life
I loved their first ablum with their fresh metal sound with a little bit a melody thrown in. Well on this one they kept that metal influence but added a big old school one. Lots of circle pit breakdowns and fast guitar melodies while still having a nice dowse of breakdowns for the metal kid in all of us. All in all I would have to say this is one of the best ablums of the year so far.
