What you are about to read is a screenplay, and it is my goal that should it be seen anywhere else but here on the net, it will be in the movie theatre.
It is not "about" Hanson. It was inspired by Hanson after spending six hours in the most boring terminal of Houston's International Airport with my brand new copy of Road to Albertane and my Walkman. I like Hanson. I tried not to, I really did, especially when Mmmbop was being hammered into my consciousness. But, upon realistic investigation...resistance is futile. These boys are talented. Their harmonies are exquisite and when you add in their musicianship and their skills as songwriters...
The characters of Stephen, Mike and Lucas Hawthorne were created to resemble and pay tribute to Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson. You may find them remarkably similar, you may ask if I have been privvy to backstage information or am even related to the Hanson family. I'm not. I have not lived in North America for two years and wasn't even aware there had been a Road to Albertane until I heard the live version of Mmmbop on a Mexican radio station in November or December of 1997.
Since I began working on this project, many people have helped. There are days when I could not get along without Jennifer Troppe (check out her poetry here), who reads voracioiusly, offers opinions (she chose the Elvis song) and helps promote this story. Sacha Raby, the webmistress of Hansonzine, created the graphic you see above and on each script page. She did it out of the goodness of her heart and the giving spirit you find exists among many Hanson fans, and I thank her for it.
There are numerous others who should be thanked, readers like Elisa, Ronnie, Tikky, Alison and Kelly, and gifted writers like Graven and Amanda.
