    Griffey=Red...
Reds -- Griffey is a red, hopefully for good.

    Mariners 5, Rangers 2
SEATTLE (AP) -- Fittingly, it was Ken Griffey Jr.'s day.

Griffey, the player most responsible for Seattle's new outdoor ballpark, was the star in the Mariners' final game in the Kingdome.

Griffey hit his 27th homer and robbed Juan Gonzalez of a three-run shot with a spectacular, over-the-fence catch as the Mariners beat the Texas Rangers 5-2 Sunday before a sellout crowd of 56,530.

"It was great," teammate Edgar Martinez said. "We've been watching him play like that for years. It just amazes me he always comes through in a situation like today. That shows the class of player he is. He's the best." - ESPN.com

    Indians 10, Mariners 5
CLEVELAND (AP) -- Dave Burba didn't want to get into specifics about his conversation with Ken Griffey Jr.

However, it's safe to assume the two didn't make any dinner plans for Saturday night.

Roberto Alomar and Manny Ramirez hit back-to-back homers in a five-run fourth, and David Justice and Jacob Cruz added two-run homers for the Indians. - ESPN.com

    Mariners 7, Giants 3
SEATTLE (AP) -- Jamie Moyer is one pitcher who's going to miss the Kingdome.

The veteran left-hander improved his Kingdome record as a member of the Seattle Mariners' staff to 26-12 in a 7-3 victory over San Francisco on Friday night.

"I've had success here," Moyer said after winning his sixth straight decision. "Why? I don't know. This is not a very forgiving ballpark."

The Mariners won it with a six-run first inning, when Edgar Martinez hit a two-run homer.

Moyer (7-4) retired 13 consecutive Giants after he gave up a homer to J.T. Snow in the second after a double by Stan Javier. - ESPN.com

    Mariners 10, Rockies 5
DENVER (AP) -- The pre-game omens did not favor the Colorado Rockies.

Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan threw out the first pitch, and MVP running back Terrell Davis dropped it. Broncos tight end Shannon Sharpe sprinted around the bases and tripped as he crossed home plate.

When the game started, Ken Griffey Jr. just made things worse.

Griffey homered twice and drove in four runs as the Seattle Mariners scored six times in the first inning en route to a 10-5 victory over the Rockies on Tuesday night.

"It's fun to watch, but not when it's against your team," Colorado's Darryl Hamilton said. "As a fan of the game, I can really appreciate somebody like Griffey because he goes out and does it every day."

Griffey, who was 0-for-5 with two strikeouts Monday night, increased his home run total to 22, tying Tampa Bay's Jose Canseco for the major league lead. He also gave fans what they had been waiting for. - ESPN.com

    Mariners 4, Orioles 2
SEATTLE (AP) -- Sooner or later, Ken Griffey Jr. will figure a pitcher out. Even a nemesis like Mike Mussina.

Griffey's two-out, two-run double off Mussina in the eighth inning gave the Seattle Mariners a 4-2 victory over Baltimore on Wednesday night.

"There's a reason why Mussina's had so much success against us," Mariners hitting coach Jesse Barfield said. "I certainly don't want to give our secrets away because we're going to have to face the guy again. But Kenny had a game plan." - ESPN.com

    Mariners 10, Orioles 6
SEATTLE (AP) -- Alex Rodriguez was upset with home-plate umpire Tim Welke after being called out on strikes in the first inning.

He made up for the strikeout by hitting two home runs to help the Seattle Mariners beat Baltimore 10-6 Monday night.

"I felt like I was getting perfect pitches or my vision wasn't real good," Rodriguez said. "I thought they were questionable strikes. But I got even. I felt I got some good pitches to hit after that and drove 'em out of the park."

The Mariners hit four home runs, including Ken Griffey Jr.'s major league-leading 20th. Griffey capped Seattle's six-run second inning against Sidney Ponson (5-4) with his 370th career homer. - ESPN.com

    Hardaway files for free agency
Four-time NBA All-Star Penny Hardaway exercised an option to void the last three years of his contract with the Orlando Magic and will become a free agent on July 1.

Hardaway, who averaged 15.8 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists this season, complained after an early playoff exit that he was underappreciated and said a change of scenery seemed like a logical solution.

"As expected, Penny has exercised his option," general manager John Gabriel said Friday. "We will see what the future holds. We would like to re-sign him."

A telephone message left at the office of Carl Posten, Hardaway's Houston-based attorney, was not immediately returned. - ESPN.com

    Suns seek deal for Penny?
PHOENIX -- The Phoenix Suns have contacted the Orlando Magic to express interest in trading for guard Penny Hardaway, The Arizona Republic reported Wednesday.

Suns spokeswoman Julie Fie declined to comment on the Republic report, which cited an unnamed NBA source. But the club had made no secret of its desire to add a shooting guard who could play alongside All-Star point guard Jason Kidd. - ESPN.com

    Sixers 101, Magic 91
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- After Allen Iverson saved the 76ers, the little guy couldn't keep his emotions inside any more. He took three giant steps toward center court, waved to the crowd and exited to an enormous ovation.

Watching from high atop the First Union Center, Julius Erving had to admit he was a little jealous.

"The fans out there were absolutely going crazy," said Erving, who helped the Sixers win their last NBA title in 1983. "You got people with wigs on and taking their shirts off. I was looking around, and I was like, "Is this a basketball game?'"

Iverson scored 37 points and helped rescue the 76ers after they blew an 18-point, second-half lead as Philadelphia eliminated the Orlando Magic with a 101-91 victory in Game 4 of their first-round series Saturday. - ESPN.com

    Magic 79, Sixers 68
ORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- Penny Hardaway and the Orlando Magic finally found a way to slow down Allen Iverson -- make him play defense.

Hardaway scored 22 points and harassed the NBA scoring champion into an awful game as the Magic cruised to a convincing 79-68 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers that evened their Eastern Conference first-round series at one game each.

Hardaway was burned for 30 points by Iverson as the 76ers upset the third-seeded Magic in Game One. This time, Orlando chased the lightning-quick Iverson all over the court with Hardaway and a second defender, preventing him from moving toward the basket and breaking down the defense. - ESPN.com
