With the cooler weather on the way, many of our shows will be indoor. Indoor shows are different then outdoor shows, and can present their own problems. After you have done a couple if outdoor shows, you get good at set-up your display in your 10' x10' space. You know you are going to sell out the front or have a corner space. But once indoors space sizes and location can cause problems. Many indoor school shows (including the one I run) offer spaces 6' x10' or 4'x 6'. This cuts down on your display space. So how are you going to display everything and still have room to put boxes and such out of the way? First, if the show offers tables (this usually is offered at an additional price of $5-$10.) take it. They have tables that fit perfect in the space. Now how to add display space with using your table, boxes. All those rubber maid plastic tote boxes or cardboard boxes, once they are empty, turn them over and stack them. Place them to one side behind your table, making sure you have room to move around. Cover with a simple cloth and you have a little display that would be good for baskets and large light weight items. You can also use these as front "ledge" in front of your table. I personally don't feel the front ledge method works well, but people to use it. If you have items to hang, lattice works great. One or two pieces of lattices and you can hang items, with hooks or even ribbon. This gives you a wall display and adds to the decoration of your space. Decoration for your booth at outdoor shows should be kept simple because of weather, sun etc. But whether you are doing a small or large show, decoration at an indoor show is a must. It can be as simple as large plants and garland, lattice work with flowers on either side. Don't spend a lot of money, look around the house, what do you decorate with? Plants, draped material, a poster size picture of your soaps is a great background. I am a firm believer in lights at a indoor show. If they offer electric, take it! Take some table lamps, place them at the tallest points on your display, and you have a dramatic effect that adds light to your display, and helps it stand out from the others. If down the line you want to invest in lighting, there are clamp lights with long necks, but the newest trend in lighting your booth is the strip lights. Attach to the poles of the booth and direct the light downward and you are done. The most important thing to remember is your booth should reflect your personality and your work. The best booths I have ever seen, were not the designer booths but the booths that the crafters worked up. It takes time to put booth displays together, so use what you have and only what you like and you can have a great booth no matter what the size! Happy Soaping! |
