The Earth was not given to us by our ancestors. |
It was loaned to us by our children. |

My name is Kristina.
I'm very proud of my
Tsalagi heritage.....Always have been. I admire the
ideas
and beliefs of traditional Native
Americans.
Although I'm not a member
of a specific church, and cannot be placed in any
specific
religious category---I am a spiritual person. the Earth
is
populated with countless cultures, all having different
languages and different colored skin. But in God's eyes,
we
are all related. And God is not only found in a church.
He
is everywhere.
Although I am a Native
American, I have no legal proof of this. My family did
not
keep records, it was not always 'cool' to have Native
American blood running through your veins. Native
Americans have been discriminated against and cheated by
the government for generations. Until recently, no one
was
likely to admit this proud
heritage..
In 1838, 17,000 Cherokee
were herded off of their lands and driven west by the
American government. Loaded into over 600 wagons, and
traveling on foot, they crossed the country west to
Indian
Territory.
Most of the People were
barefoot, with no blankets to keep away the cold. Along
the way 4,000 men, women, and children died---succumbing
to disease, ill treatment, and exposure. They were
buried
along the trail in shallow, unmarked
graves.
This journey is forever
known as "the trail where they cried"........The Trail
Of
Tears.
And it is not only the
Tsalagi who suffered. Not one Nation of Native American
people was left unscathed.
When the government
had them moved from their home lands and
placed on reservations, so often were names misspelled
on
the Tribal Rolls, and information not recorded properly,
that you have to really work hard to decipher most of
the
writings. Who knows how many families were
misrepresented
on the Tribal Rolls?
Therefor, lack of evidence
for the Peoples' descendants---trying to prove their
heritage.
It is one of my dreams to
be a registered member of the Cherokee Nation.
Someday...
Well, I could go on and on
about the injustices towards the Native American people
in
our country---But I'll spare you of anymore of my
opinions. :) The important thing is to make the
situations
better for the people in the world today, all the
people.
There is still so much conflict and prejudice out there.
Even just one person can make a
difference.
I created this web site in
hope of people learning a little more about Native
American culture and history. Native Americans have a
fascinating history---made up of hardships and triumphs,
strength and endurance. Each culture differs from
another.
Alot of people tend to believe that one is pretty much
like
the other---but this is not the case at
all.
Although they have their
similarities, each nation has it's own
spiritual beliefs, customs and traditions, it's own
legends
and history. And I love
to learn all I can about it.
This site was also created
to help people with their genealogy research. I know how
difficult it can be trying to find leads. Maybe my
genealogy links can help.
I realize that the many
links I have will take you away from my web site. So
please come back to check out my other pages. There are
a
couple pages about me and my horses, and miscellaneous.
Besides my interests in
genealogy and history, (and horses) I am also a
collector
of
anything Native American. Literature, art, you name it!
I
love Native legends. Each piece seems to have it's own
story to tell. My favorite things to collect
are dream catchers......any size, color, or style.
If you are researching
your family history, like I am, you can find an endless
supply of genealogy resources on my genealogy page.
Hundreds of links!
