Elijah was one man that through God achieved many miracles. He showed God's power through many signs and miracles to Israel. He attempted to change Israel back to the path that God wanted them to be on. One way he showed the power of one was in Zarephath (I Kings 17:7-24). Here he asked a widow for bread and told her that her flour and oil would not run out until the Lord sent rain again. God showed his power and amazed the widow because the flour and oil did not run out. Elijah also showed God's power when the widow's son died after being ill. He was raised from the dead by Elijah who prayed to God and God answered his prayer. Finally, when Elijah and the prophets of Baal were showing which was the true God, Elijah did something special after he built the altar (I Kings 18:17-46). He had the altar soaked in water three times with a trench built around the perimeter of the altar to catch the excess water. God sent a pillar of fire and consumed all the water, animal sacrifices and water while Baal did not. This proved in front of Israel that there is only one living God.
