I was born in New York City and grew up in Queens. I attended Catholic School for 12 years (long story). Eventually I settled in Rockland County where I have lived for almost 26 years. I always wanted to be a teacher but took a different route. I started working for corporations right out of school but decided in my 30's to go back to get my Master's in Education. I moved around to a few districts taking leave positions until I found my home in Chappaqua! I love what I do and am constantly amazed at the energy and intelligence of the kids I teach. This is my fifth year there and it is an awesome district with a supportive staff and parents.
I feel that technology is integral to the education process today. Kids love using new technology and are very comfortable with it. They are on-line so much that using a computer is very comfortable for them. Lessons that I've taught that were the most fun involved having the kids create - whether it be mathematical problems, videos, skits about stories they've read, or artwork. I believe that kids should be driving their own learning. Also, my team and I believe in going on field trips. They are very valuable for giving kids more exposure to a topic, e.g., the United Nations, Liberty Science Center, and the Westchester County Board of Legislators.
When I'm not working, I love to spend time with my family, read great books, and to travel. I look forward to vacations and going to Delaware to the beach, one of my favorite places in the world!
