SECTION TWO:

Based on my observations,  two aspects of the kindergarten program I am going to focus my action research on are:

Implementing a play based program.  Draft full day kindergarten curriculum provides information on our early learners the document states that “Young children learn best through activities that are relevant to their lives and varied enough to be challenging and engaging. Children develop their knowledge by building on their past experiences and the learning they have already acquired” The “It’s Child’s Play” article discusses the importance of play. The article states the importance of students moving freely through centers and explore activities that interest them. Also, that the class timetable be set up to have at least 60 minutes available for free play each day.

Building strong and healthy relationships with parents. One of the six principles for the draft full day kindergarten curriculum is “Partnerships with families and communities strengthen the ability of early childhood settings to meet the needs of young children”. The Parent engagement Policy identifies that parents: are welcomed, respected and valued as partners by the school community in their children’s learning and development, have a full range of choices and opportunities to enable them to be involved and support student success, are engaged through ongoing communication and dialogue to support a positive.
