Lucy woke up early the next morning. She crawled out of bed around 7:00. Lucy put on a pale blue skirt and a silk white blouse. She pulled the front part of her hair up in a ribbon that matched her skirt leaving whispy bangs out. She slipped a silver ring on her right finger and a silver locket around her neck. Lucy made her way down stairs to find Emma in the kitchen cooking breakfast. The boys were outside doing their chores.
"Emma, I think I'll go over and check on Mr. Cody."
"Alright Dear, Just be careful." warned Emma.
"Why?"
"He ain't in the mood to be bothered with. Along with the rest of all the boys in town, he was courtin a girl named Claire Wallace. She got married this morning to a drifter and gambler. They left for Dodge right after the wedding."
"Oh Heavens, Poor Mr. Cody, I believe I'll go make sure hes alright then."
Lucy found Cody sitting on the bunkhouse porch. His face considerably lit up when he saw Lucy walkin towards him.
"Hello Mr. Cody" Lucy sat on the bench beside him. "Look at that, I gone and died again."
"Mr. Cody please."
"You can call me Cody, Miss Lucy." Cody anounced.
"Alright Cody, please call me Lucy."
"I will. Uh Lucy theres a dance Saturday. You wanna go with me?"
"Of course Cody I would be honored."
