Smart Alex

Alternative Ending

By Mel Bone

Jim pulled the truck up out side Rainer University, noticing Alec and Molly teaching Sandburg, how to roller blade.

“Well good. That’s great news. Thanks Simon” Jim ended the call and turned to Suzanne Tamaki, “The two grad students who work for Carlin, Freeman and Howell, have all agreed to turn State’s evidence.  A field agent for the EPA said that the mess at the farm is under control”

“Great, Well Jim thanks for the lift. I need to get back to work.” Susan replied

“Sure I can’t persuade you to jump ship and come to work for the Cascade police department.”

“No thank, anyhow this place needs cops too.”

“Yeah well they have one of the best. Even if she still refuses to carry a gun”

“I’ll see you. Take Care” Susan said as she started walking towards the campus.

“You too” Jim answered.

“Hey you guys take care now ok?” Susan greeted Blair, Molly and Alex as she walked passed.

Bye bye

See ya

Turning to the small group in front of him Jim offered, “All right, what do you say we grab some lunch, huh?”

"Great idea.  I’ll drive" Alex dashed away on his roller blades towards the truck

“Over my dead body” Jim replied as he started to head for the truck only stop when he notice Sandburg was having trouble trying to move in the right direction.

“The way he drives it will be” Sandburg remarked, as he finally got the roller blades to go in the right direction.

Jim turned to go towards the truck only to hear a yell from Sandburg, and turned just in time to see Blair hit the ground.

Laughing at his friend’s misfortune, Jim walked over offering his hand to help his partner up.  Blair reached up with his left hand to grab Jim’s only to pull back in pain as Jim started to pull.  Jim dropped down to his knee next to Blair and gently took his wrist in his hand, feeling along the bone until he found the break

“Lunch will have to wait Chief, your wrist is broken ”

“Oh man” Blair complained as Jim helped him up and practically rolled him towards the truck.
