Promises

By Mel Bone

The court case had been long and harrowing, and today Blair Sandburg was to take the stand, to give his account of the event that happened two month ago.

He wasn’t the only witness to a robbery that resulted in two dead and five injured, with the suspect arrested at the scene thanks to Blair’s fast and creative thinking.

The Lawyer could see he was fighting a loosing battle, Paul Russell, hated to lose, and started taking out his anger on Blair, challenging Blair’s credibility as a witness by bring up the topic of the dreaded dissertation.

The Judge and prosecuting attorney had put a stop to the line of questing, but the damage had already been done.

Blair Sandburg, stood shoulders slump forward, a look of misery on his face, he didn’t even look up when the Judge told his he could step down, he just walked as quickly as he could out of the court room.

He only stopped when a familiar voice called out.

“Chief”

“I … Just, just leave me alone, Jim, I just need to be alone ok” Blair turned pleading eyes on Jim, who couldn’t do anything but nod his head.

Blair turned and practically ran out of the building.

Jim turned and slammed his fist into the hard wall.

“I’ll make it right” he vowed “Even if it’s the last thing I ever do!”

As he headed home to wait for his Guide to return.
