Old Fashioned Molasses Cookies1 1/2 cup sugar1 cup shortening 2 eggs 1 cup light or dark molasses 3 tsp baking soda 1/2 cup hot water 5 1/2 cups flour 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp ginger 1 tsp cloves 1 tsp nutmeg 1 tsp salt Sprinkle white or colored sugar (Can frost if you want) Mix sugar, shortening, eggs & molasses. Dissolve baking soda in water: stir into molasses mixture. Mix in remaining ingredients except the sprinkle sugars. Refrigerate at least 2 hours. Heat oven to 375 deg. Roll dough 1/4 inch thick on floured or cloth-covered board. Cut with floured 2 3/4 inch round cookie cutter or other fav cookie cutter. Place about 2 inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake until light brown 8-10 min, cool completely. Note: Can frost too, generously frost bottom of cookies with frosting. Let stand 2-3 hours before storing to allow frosting to dry.
