Silver make up, big hair, four inch
shoes, and an unmatchable sense of style set to synthesizers and seven string
guitars. Did the Spice Girls change their musical forte? Not quite. These
glamour demi gods are in fact male and make up the “death pop” band, Orgy.
Although the band’s name presents many sexual innuendoes, it more thoroughly
describes the marriage between the digital sounds created on guitarist Amir
Derakh’s Guitar Synths, the deep penetrating rhythms of Paige Haley on bass
and Bobby Hewitt on drums, the powerful chords created on Ryan Shuck’s 7
string Ibanez, topped off with the captivating voice of Jay Gordon. Orgy’s first
single, a cover of New Order’s Blue Monday, has taken MTV by storm. That is
why it was not surprising when Orgy toured with Sugar Ray on MTV’s Campus
Invasion Tour and although Orgy held the opening spot on the tour their
performances continued to show that these gorgeous guys had what it takes to
make it big. June 22, marked the opening date of Orgy's very own
Candyass tour. Orgy is moving up in the world with a second single,
Stitches, proving that they didn't need a cover song to bring them into glory.
They have had it in them all a long. . . and they continue to thank their fans for
their succes. They are the most down to earth, loveable, fashion bitches in the
music industry. We love Orgy and it's safe to say that they love us too.
Every band has a front man. He looms over the crowd, whipping his microphone
cord and wrapping it around his towering 6’7 frame. He leans his head a little to
the side and sings to you. . . as if you were the only one there. It is his voice that
helps aide the frenzy in the mosh pit. He sets the words to the music and makes
it complete. He is 6'4 without his shoes on. A casual kind of guy, and
really kind. He is a drummer like his Uncle Brad whom he calls Splib. "Hey
SPLIB! Come see this!" He's a grown man with a childish nature like his Auntie
Paula. His smile holds the kind of mischeif that you wish you could see in more
people more often. He has that "aren't I something" look that still says "and you
are something too." It's a quality that is so human and so real that it peeks
through the stage act. There is an aire of humility that few front men possess.
Something that started at home. . . something that he won't lose because it is a
part of his very being. He's the kind of guy that would make any mother bask with pride. Partly because of his talent, but mainly because he has become successful and wants to share it with others.
