Meet my darling son, Mark
 Hi. I'm glad you stopped by to meet Mark. He was born in March 1998 by caesarean section at
Invercargill, weighing in at 6lb 14ozs. He is a beautiful little boy and I love him so much.
Mark spent time in Invercargill city hospital as a baby on various occassions. He had severe gastro reflux which is only just easing now at
age 15 months, and was also on a cot death (SIDS) monitor until 12 mths because he would sometimes stop breathing (apnoea).
He also spent time in Dunedin city hospital where his sleep patterns were observed and tested by leading cot death expert, Professor Barry Taylor.
While there he also took part in an Otago Medical School study, 'Waking from sleep in babies at risk'. This study did various tests on sleeping
babies including, reducing the levels of oxygen inhaled while baby is asleep (the re-breath test), and the tilting of babies bed while asleep.
Both of these tests were designed to determine whether baby would wake in a situation that is not considered 'normal'. eg breathing in too much
carbon dioxide.
This was all done under very close observation with breathing rates, heart rates, oxygen rates etc all being closely monitored throughout the tests.
By taking part in this study I hope I've helped researchers get closer to finding out the cause of this deadly condition which kills so many babies every year.
Mark at age 10 wks
Mark first walked at age 12 mths and now runs everywhere. He is a real climber and is forever falling off the sofa or chair.
He just loves his dad and going out in the truck on the farm with him. He is very independant and doesn't like being fussed or pampered over.
Aged 6 mths
His favourite television programmes are Teletubbies, Barney and Thomas the Tank Engine. He loves splashing and playing in the bath, playing with his toy tractor and
truck, and getting into anything that belongs to his big sister, Bridget, that he knows he's not allowed.
Mark aged 12 mths
