WIRES

I am a member of a wildlife rescue group called WIRES. We rescue, care for and ultimately release injured or orphaned wildlife. I love it, and it's a real privelige to care for some of the most gorgeous little critters imaginable.

Eric

Eric is a baby Rainbow Lorikeet (believe it or not). He was found on the ground, only a few days old, by a schoolboy who was very proud to hand him over for care. He grew into a very beautiful bird.

Here he is "perching" (upside down, no less) with another Rainbow Lorikeet who came along soon after - Derek. They were very good friends.

Banjo

Banjo was a baby blue tongue lizard. He was just five inches long when he came into care. He was born with deformities - he only had one eye, and his jaw was all wonky. But he was a cutie.

Magpie babies

These little cuties were my first ever babies in WIRES. 3 little magpie siblings who were blown out of their nest in high winds. I called them Blueberry, Apple and Strawberry

Black Shouldered Kite

This gorgeous guy had a dislocated wing after an altercation with a car. The vet popped it back into place and after some care from one of our Raptor carers he was released.

Dollarbird

This beautiful Dollarbird juvenile was found on the ground by a friendly farmer. His parents were nowhere to be seen.

Cuckoo Shrikes

I love these guys. While they may not be the prettiest of birds, they have a lot of character, and the most amazing call!!.

Fan-Tailed Cuckoo

This beautiful bird flew into a glass window, and had a bad case of concussion. He was really pretty.

Herbie the Heron

Herbie was a juvenile Heron who was too young to fly yet, and was separated from his parents. He went to another carer who had the facilities for him, and was released when he grew up a bit. Loved the hairdo.

Sacred Kingfisher

We get a few Kingfishers into care, sometimes people think they are baby Kookaburras. A lot of them fly into windows etc and just need a few days of TLC.

Kookaburra

Now this is a young Kookaburra. How cute is he!!!!!.

Mistletoe Bird

This little cutie is a young Mistletoe Bird. He was separated from Mum and Dad and needed care until he grew a bit older and was able to care for himself. He wasn't an awful lot bigger than this when he was released!

Native Rat

Poor little Henry came into care when his nest was disturbed by landscapers and his Mum jumped into the mulcher. His siblings ran away, but I raised Henry and he was later released (far away from mulchers)
