meiosis

Meiosis is the second way that cells reproduce. Unlike mitosis, meiosis only occurs in the reproductive organs, and results in four new cells instead of two. The new cells have half the number of chromosomes of the original cell. During meiosis, tetrads are formed; this step does not happen in mitosis.
