interphase-the prephase

Mitosis is the type of cell division in which daughter cells are formed that are exactly like the parent cell. Each daughter cell carries a copy of the DNA of the parent cell.

Interphase is the first step in mitosis, although it is considered a prephase, not a phase. It is the time of growth between cell divisions, in which the DNA makes copies of itself.
