Is that it? Is summer over!? I had a million things planned and I only got around to about three of them!
This summer was the first time in my life that I worked full time. Boy, 40 hours a week is a big chunk of time. No wonder parents are always yelling at their kids, having responsibility takes a lot out of person.
I think the whole work "thing" is way overratted. Especially in high school, when kids think it's cool to have a job. I caught on early in the game. All my friends were working all the time so they could pay for their cars.
"And where do you need to drive?" I would ask.
"To school and work," they would reply.
"Well, you can get the bus to school and instead of working, use those valuable hours to catch up on hours of quality television programing!"
That was my philosophy! I might be thousands of dollars in debt, but I can identify any episode of "ALF" within the first minute.
I never understood why in high school everybody was embarrassed to have their parents drive them places. You spend your pre-teen years trying to get a car, so you can drive yourself places and then in adult life the ulitmate symbol of success is to be able to afford to have someone to drive you places!
At least this summer I had a job I liked! I can't even begin to imaging holding down a job I couldn't stand. Oh, wait a minute, I forgot...I worked for Blockbuster for a year!
After putting in eight hours a day, I was too tired to do anything when I got home. Looking forward to the weekend is what kept me going. Andy then halfway through the summer I realized it's the middle of July and I'm looking forward to the weekend. The summer is supposed to be filled with hours of nothing to do but watch T&A flicks on the USA cable network, and I found myself going to bed at 11:00pm! I'm too young for that!
I guess it's something everybody goes through, and eventually you just have to face the facts that you are a little more grown up now and work is a big part of adult life.
So I quit my job and spent all the money I made on beer and videos! Have a great year!
