WHAT'S IN THE WATER YOU DRINK ?? Project Dates - October 15 to December 15, 1999 Overview |
This project will answer the question: How does where you live affect the water you drink?
Students will develop a background on water systems, possible impurities, their local water shed and geological features. Using the characteristics of where they live they will predict how their water should test for acidity, hardness, and chlorine, iron and copper content. The students will test their water using simple test kits and submit the data for their school.
Using the collaborative data from different areas they will be able to extend their predictions regarding the factors that affect the water we drink.
This project is designed for students in late elementary and middle school,
but any students may participate. There is no fee for participation.
The project was produced with the assistance of the staff of the Center
for Improved Engineering and Science Education at the Stevens Institute
of Technology with support from the AT & T Foundation and the AT &
T Learning Network.
