LOOKING AFTER YOUR WORMS
So far we have learn't how to setup our worm bin and what to & no to feed them, but there are just a few simple
steps that need to looked at that will make our worms even more happier.
- As pointed out earlier our worms like to live in moist bedding but not soaking wet.So be carefull never to over
water them.In the summer months as the weather heats up you should always check that the bedding is moist because it will dry out but of course during the colder months watering will not need to be done as often but never forget to check them.
- Tossing or turning over the top 10cm of bedding on a regular helps to increase the amount of oxygen supply in
the worms working area.Worms need oxygen to live so its helps them a lot also it helps to mix any old castings with any new food supply which will assist in the breaking down process.
- Also we learnt earlier that worms live best between the temperatures of 18c to 26c.So in summer place in a shady spot out of direct sunlight and in winter if possible place inside a garden shed or garage. If this isnt possible thats OK all you need to do is to insulate the top working layer of the bedding, this can be done by covering it with a couple of old hessian bags or with and old piece of carpet.
