100 WISHES QUILT
To welcome and celebrate a new life, there is a tradition in China to make a Bai Jia Bei, or 100 Good Wishes Quilt. The custom is to invite 100 people to contribute a single square patch of cloth. The 100 squares are then sewn together into a quilt that contains the luck, energy and good wishes from all the families and friends who contributed a piece of fabric. The quilt is then passed down from generation to generation. This type of quilt is fairly common in China and has become popular in the Chinese adoption community.

The person sending the piece of fabric also sends a special wish on a card. It is ideal if you include a small swatch of the fabric with the card containing the wish. That way Mae can later match wishes with the fabric squares in her quilt. The 100 good wishes and the scraps of fabric will then be collected in a scrapbook for her to look at, feel and read when she is old enough to understand.

We welcome you, our family and friends, to be a part of this tradition. Please contribute to the Bai Jia Bei for our daughter, Mae....

WHAT TO SEND:

One 9” x 9” square (or larger) of washable 100% cotton fabric that would work for a little girl. Mae’s room is decorated in shades of pink, green, yellow, brown and red. (Also, ladybugs are a sign of good luck in the Chinese adoption community. It is said that if you see ladybugs that good things will happen soon! Because of this, many people like to include fabrics with ladybugs).

A 5” x 7” card (or smaller) with a wish dedicated to Mae. Your wish may be simple or elaborate, handwritten or typed. It can be something original that you wrote, or a favorite poem or quote that has special meaning to you. Please remember to sign your wish and include your city and state. Your wish-card can be elegantly simple or colorfully decorated - anything goes.

WHERE TO SEND THE ITEMS:
