Just before heading off to bed, Peter had a surprise. He brought his old yearbook down from the attic. “This is my high school yearbook, and there are two people in it that I think you’d like to see.”
Jonas took it from him and placed it on the coffee table. He turned the pages, one after the other. He looked through the senior photos and found Peter’s old picture. He did a double take and laughed; Peter was quite a handsome guy in his day. He then scanned through the names listed on the left side of the photos in the Juniors section. When he got the P’s, his eyes immediately stopped at the name Parker, Julian. He looked on the colored photo of an intellectual young man with thin framed glasses and eyes that mirrored his own. He gasped and pointed, “Peter… is that?”
He gazed over his shoulder and nodded. “Yes. It is.” He then scanned through the sophomores and freshmen. He found the person he was looking for under the high school freshmen. Jensen, Jill was her name. Her eyes were hazel, much like Nina’s, but her hair looked almost black.
He looked back and forth between the two pictures and it took 15 minutes for it to sink in. “These… these are… my parents.”
“I don’t know why I didn’t think of it sooner, but they were here all along in my yearbook.”
“My gosh.” He swallowed, “My name is Jonas Parker. I have a last name.” He smiled, “I actually have a last name!” He looked at Peter, “Peter, I have a last name. My gosh, thank you so much for showing me this. It means the world to me.”
“Jonas, I hope you have a great year at high school and do well. Make your parents proud.” He nodded, “I promise that I won’t let you… or them down.” He laughed, “I have a feeling that this year is going to be amazing.” He ran upstairs in high spirits. Peter folded his arms, thinking, ‘I sure hope everything goes according to plan. Jonas has had to deal with so many hardships the past year. I’d hate for anything else to cause him any grief.’
He, of course, was referring to the craziness of last year’s June 2nd when Jonas had to fight Nightariel and nearly got himself killed. Since then, he had been haunted by nightmares, but with school approaching, they have long since vanished.
As Jonas lay in bed, looking up, he knew that things were going to be fine. He slowly nodded off and went into a deep sleep.
