Day #9: Saint Malo to Normandie    8/11/03 Mon Home

D-Day. Omaha Beach. Operation Overlord...Innevitably the first thing any American would think of when someone says 'Normandy'. Well, if you want to know more about that, click here, because I'm not going there when there's so much political tension around. These days, that beach sounds almost as safe as it was back on June 6, 1944. I vote instead that I introduce you to a new type of alcohol...Calvados! By the way, Normandie is quite famous for many other things as well, like, Sir Lancelot of the Lake was from Normandie. It was once ruled by the Saxons and Vikings, which is apparent if you look for it. Camembert cheese was invented in Normandie (my mom used to summer in the house it was invented in, my cousin the mayor owns the house) Anyone who likes a nice walk in the woods will love this place, it's all green and growing!

We'll stay that night at my cousins Jean and Moniques' milk farm. Mmmm...fresh milk....! You might want to look at the picture and learn some names here, it's one of those places where you'll find 3 generations living in one house, and there are a lot of them! ... I'd like to get there in time for breakfast...NOT! I was thinking around 4 or 5 pm, just take it easy. It's a 2 1/2 hour drive....home to Netherword in rush hour, what!

SOME of the family!  Etretat cliffs in Normandie...this is why D-Day had to take place on a well-deffended beach.
