...Snape and Malfoy. "Damn!" Menolly cursed as she saw that their boat was the only one with room. "You guys are so freaking dead!!!" Menolly yelled back to her friends as she walked over to the boat and got in. She sat at the farthest place possible from them as she could without falling into the lake itself. And then the boats started to glide through the water on their own. "Well, if it isn't little Menolly Greenwall how nice of you to join us." Snape said in an oily voice that made a shiver of disgust run down Menolly's spine. "Well little mudblood, you really shouldn't be hanging out with them you know" Malfoy sneered. " You know, you really shouldn't call me that for two reasons." said Menolly calmly "I can't lose my temper. Not now anyway..."

Menolly thought desperately. "And what pathetic reasons would that be." said Malfoy, who was now smirking maliciously. "Well, first of all, it's a damn rude comment, that should never be said to anyone." said Menolly cooly," And secondly, I'm not a muggle born." Menolly said with an evil grin. Malfoy and Snape looked shocked, but recovered quickly. "Then why not say so in the first place?" asked Snape. "Why hang around with Potter and his little friends." Snape said icily. "You go as low as any witch can go if you hang out with those mudbloods and mudblood lovers..." started Malfoy, but at that point, he had gone to far. Before Malfoy could say one more word Menolly sprang up from her seat and tackled Malfoy, as to where he ended up being pushed into the lake and Menolly barely balancing enough to stay on the boat. "Well, there goes a good impression on the Headmaster and professors...Oh well." thought Menolly as Malfoy's head came up out of the water and was rescued to another boat within five minuets.

The group watched from their separate boats as Menolly was speaking calmly at the smirking Malfoy and Snape. "If they dare even get closer to her, I am going to seriously injure them." growled Remus. "And we'll help too" said James and Sirius. "Yes...uh...right..." said the boy who took Menolly's spot in their boat named Peter Pettigrew. (grrr...).

Back with the girls
"Oh great, Menolly's going to definently hurt us now." Meghan said watching Menolly get into Malfoy and Snape's boat with a look of pure disgust on her face. "We're dead." said Lily nodding her head in agreement. Sarah was just a little confused at first, but then looked over to the boat and understood, it was the two boys she had hexed out of their compartment on the train. "I think she'll kill them, before us; her best friends." stated Ashes "Right?" she also questioned. "Omg! Look!" Lily whispered to her friends 5 minuets after the boats started to move. She pointed to the boat where Menolly, Snape and Malfoy were on, except Malfoy wasn't there anymore. "Where's that scum Malfoy?" asked Ashes. "In the water..." replied Lily "She tackled him and he ended up in the water...". "And she's just barely getting enough balance to stay on the boat herself" said Meghan. "I hope she doesn't fall in..." said Sarah in a worried voice. "Oh don't worry about that, trust me, she won't." said Lily confidently. "I've seen her balance almost instantly after jumping off the roof of my house." (Now I have no idea how I came up with or why I came up with this whole roof thing) "Your roof!?!?!" shouted the rest of the girls. "Yeah...my roof..." said Lily, "What! We were playing with a volleyball in my yard and it got stuck on the roof; she climbed up onto the roof, dropped down the volleyball and jumped off the roof." Lily said calmly. The rest of the girls were stunned silent, but suddenly they noticed that the boats had just stopped and that it was time to go into the magnificent Hogwarts.

Back with the boys -
The boys watched like hawks at the boat that held one of their best friends and their two worst enemies. Then they saw it, they saw Menolly lose it, and she had some temper because in an instant she was out of her seat and tackling Malfoy into the water. Luckily being able to balance herself enough not to fall into the lake too. "Go Menolly!!!" the three boys shouted at once. And much to their dislike, Malfoy was rescued by another boat. About 5 minuets later, so the three boys started laughing hysterically and cheering Menolly on to tackle Snape too, but she didn't. But she did say something to him that made him go as still as a stone and damned scared too. Then after a minute or two the boats bumped gently to a stop, and they were finally there, at Hogwarts.

Back with Menolly...
"I'm so dead." Menolly murmured to herself in the moving boat, even though Snape was still in the boat too. " I should never lose control like tha-" Menolly started muttering under her breath, but unfortunately, Snape heard her. "One word Snape, and your going overboard too." threatened Menolly, "You can't, you'll get in even more trouble." said Snape confidently, although he did look quite scared. "You really think I care." Menolly replied off handedly, "I don't, I mean I'll probably get a few detentions anyway for chucking Malfoy off the boat, why not get a few more detentions for throwing you in the lake too." "Because you will probably get expelled before we even reach the school." said Snape smirking. "Damn." Menolly cursed quietly to herself. Snape then laughed, "Be quiet Snape." said Menolly. Snape did stop, but only because the boats just stopped at the shore, and all the other first years and them were at, Hogwarts.

Chapter Seven : Back Among Friends / The Sorting

Menolly ran over and rejoined her friends, "Omg, Menolly! I can't believe you did that!" whispered Ashes, "Well actually, I can" she said after a slight pause. "That was so cool!" exclaimed Sirius and James in unison. "Yeah, but what did he say to make you,....ah..." Remus started, "Lose your temper like that." finished Thomas suggestively. "Uh...yeah." said Remus, "That's mainly what we are curious about." Lily put in. "Yeah, okay so I lost it." said Menolly in a would be calm voice if she weren't still ticked off. "Wait, you still didn't answer my question." said Remus cautiously, not wanting to upset her more than she already was. "Okay, well, they started insulting all of you and me, Malfoy more than Snape, so I guess I was just more mad at Malfoy so..." Menolly trailed off. "So anyway, change of subject now."Lily said seeing that her friend wasn't very keen on talking about this subject."Yeah, uh... what house do you guys think you'll be in?" said Sarah as they were all walking up the trail to Hogwarts with Hagrid leading the way. "Gryffindor!" James, Sirius, Ashes, Meghan, and Thomas shouted at once. At that Lily, Remus, and Menolly backed away just little from the rest and Lily said quietly, "Ravenclaw would be okay if not Gryffindor." The others just stared at them for a minuet then James said,"Yeah, I guess, Lily's right, if not Gryffindor, but you do want to be in Gryffindor ,right Lils?" said James. "No one ever calls me "Lils" except Menolly Ashes and Meghan, but it sounded and felt right coming from James." Lily thought. "Lils?" "Hello? anyone there?" said James waving his hand in front of Lily's face, she spaced out there for a moment. "Oh, definitely Gryffindor." said Lily coming back to reality, "Great!" replied James happily, and they all started walking again until Hagrid stopped at a pair of huge oak front doors. He knocked loudly three times on the doors so they actually rattled on their hinges, and a moment later a stern looking witch in emerald green robes opened both doors and told the group of children to follow her. "Hello students, I am professor McGonnagal, Head of Gryffindor House." said prof. McGonnagal giving James, Sirius, Remus, and Thomas a stern look that screams, "Make any trouble and your out of here." James and Sirius only gave each other identical evil grins and nodded. "Oh no, they're up to something." Lily said nudging Ashes in the shoulder and nodding her head toward James and Sirius. "Oh no, we're all going to die aren't we?" Ashes whispered back jokingly to Lily. "Yup." said Meghan and Menolly in agreement. "Wait here momentarily while we get ready for your presence." said prof. McGonnagal after explaining the rules and about the Houses.

She turned to leave, but then said, "I will be back when we are ready, and no trouble making." she said, looking pointedly at James, Sirius, Remus, and Thomas, then she left without another word. "Wow, she already thinks that *we* are trouble makers?" James said in an amazement close to awe. "Cool." the other boys and the girls said. "You'll pay for what you did, Greenwall." said and icy voice from behind the group, they turned only to find a sneering Malfoy, still soaking to the bone wet. At seeing Malfoy, the boys burst out laughing hysterically, even the girls. Menolly stopped laughing and said calmly, "Oh really," said Menolly with a sardonic half smile, "Sorry, but I'm not going to pay you any compensation because I pushed you into lake.". All who heard this started laughing except for Malfoy and his gang.

"We are now ready for you." said prof. McGonnagal, she had just walked through the door, thankfully not hearing the conversation. They all followed her in single file lines down through this magnificent Hall where there were four long tables filled with students. "Wow." Lily said looking up to the ceiling which looked as thought there was no roof. "It's bewitched to look like the sky outside." Lily heard someone whisper from close by in the line. All the fist years were a little or a lot nervous, mostly a lot. When they all were up in front of the Hall, they saw a ragged looking old pointed wizards hat sitting on a three-legged stool.

The brim of the old hat suddenly ripped itself open and started to sing! All of the students clapped when the hat was finished, meanwhile prof. McGonnagal had taken out a roll of parchment and started to call names:

Aslter, Caleb
after a few moments...RAVENCLAW!!! the hat shouted.

Black, Sirius
Sirius went up to the stool, sat on it, and the hat barely touched his head when it bellowed....GRYFFINDOR!!!! Burn, Ashes. Ashes walked up to the platform trying not to fall for embarrassment. She reached the stool, sat down, and the hat slipped over her eyes, a few moments later it shouted.....GRYFFINDOR!!!!

Ashes got off down the stool and ran over to the Gryffindor table to sit by Sirius. (and another few names later...) .

Delaney, Sarah
Sarah walked up and sat on the stool, a few moments later the hat shouted...GRYFFINDOR!!!
Evans, Lily

Lily walked up to the stool and sat on it. The hat started to whisper in her ear, "Hmmm...quite brave I see...very intelligent...hard to choose, hard to choose..." A moment later the hat shouted...GRYFFINDOR!!!

Greenwall, Menolly
Menolly walked up to the stool glancing up at Dumbledore as she went, he gave her an encouraging smile and she sat down on the stool. A moment later the hat shouted...RAVENCLAW! just kidding! It's GRYFFINDOR!!! everyone clapped and looked at the hat strangely, but Dumbledore only chuckled. Menolly was shocked for a moment then made her way toward the Gryffindor table.

Hollin, Thomas
Thomas made his way up the hall and sat down. The hat seemed to think about it's decision for a minuet, then it bellowed...RAVENCLAW!!!

Kayman, Meghan
Meghan walked up hoping that she would be in either Gryffindor with Lily and Ashes, or in Ravenclaw with Thomas. The hat had barely touched her head when it to shouted...RAVENCLAW!!!

Lupin, Remus
As Remus walked up, he too glanced up at Dumbledore, who gave him an encouraging nod. He sat down on the stool, as the hat slipped over his eyes he wished that he would be in Gryffindor with his friends, well the sorting hat seemed to listen to him, because in the next second the hat shouted...GRYFFINDOR!!!

Remus let out a sigh of relief, and went over to the Gryffindor table to join his friends.

Malfoy, Lucious
Smirking, Malfoy strode up to the stool, sat down and people could swear that the sorting hat didn't even touch his head when it screech...SLYTHERIN!!!! He go off the stool, and went over to the Slytherin table with the smirk still on his face.

Morlin, Amanda
A frightened looking girl in the crowd of first years walked slowly up to the stool and sat down. The hat slipped over as much as her nose and a few seconds later it shouted...HUFFLEPUFF!!!

Potter, James
James walked up the hat confidently, sat down and let the hat slip over his eyes. "Ah...Another Potter, eh? Well, well... it will just have to be..." GRYFFINDOR!!! James smiled in delight and walked over to the cheering Gryffindor Table.

Snape, Severus
Snape went up, sat down, and awaited his judgment of which house he will be placed in. The hat took a few moments then shouted...SLYTHERIN!!! (and after some names later..) The last first year was sorted

Who was sorted onto Hufflepuff.

Chapter Eight : The Feast

As soon as all the students were seated a quiet, Dumbledore stood, faced them and spoke, "I would like to tell all the first years, that the forbidden forest is off limits...and that this year, we will have a Christmas Ball." "And I would also like to introduce our two new members of staff, Professor Troy Sealin who will be teaching Defense Against The Dark Arts and Professor Lanen Kealar who will be teaching Astronomy." "Now for these words, flubber, blubberdubber, and slilch. Let the feast, begin" At these words food began to appear in an instant. Huge amounts of food were built up on each plate. After shoveling down tons of food in seconds, James whispers in Sirius and Remus's ears, "food fight." and nodded toward the Slytherin Table, Sirius gave him an evil grin in confirmation, and Remus nodded agreement. right across from them the girls were talking and then noticed that the boys had stopped shoveling down food... Lily whispered to Menolly Ashes and Sarah, "They're up to something..." but before any of them could answer, a huge glob of rice pudding was seen flinging through the air just before it hit Snape square in the eyes. The whole room burst out laughing except for the Slytherins, soon food was being flung everywhere, or at least, when Sirius yelled, "FOOD FIGHT!!!!"

The girls were having the time of their lives, it was a hilarious picture to see, everybody with food all over them some girls who didn't want to get messy ducked under the tables, but it didn't help anyway. When Dumbledore finally got everyone to calm down and stop throwing food, the feast was over.

"Omg, that was so fun!" exclaimed Ashes

"Definitely." agreed Menolly, "and who threw that pudding that hit Snape? I know it was one of you guys."

"Remus did, that was a great shot Moony." said Sirius giving Remus a hi five.

Lily was about to say something when she slipped on some food on the floor, and James, with quick reflexes, caught her before she hit the ground.

"Thanks James." Lily said looking into his eyes as he balanced her. "Come on you guys!" shouted Sirius over the crowd of years following the prefect to the common room. They finally got to the portrait after what seemed forever climbing of a thousand staircases.

"I'll never remember the way to get here." said Sarah

"So-tired-can't-walk..."said Menolly half asleep, dragging herself through the portrait. The password is: Dragon hide.

"The girls dormitories are up the stairs on the right, and the boys are up the stairs on the left."the prefect said to the tired first years.

"Great, more stairs." complained Menolly.

They all trudged up to their dormitories, and at the top the boys and the girls separated. In the girls dorm:

"I'm so tired..." said Menolly while changing into her pajamas.

"Me too" said Lily and Ashes

"I want to sleep for a month", said Sarah.

"Hi" said Lily to the quiet girl whom they seem to also be sharing the dormitory with. "I'm Lily Evans"

"I'm Menolly Greenwall"

"I'm Ashes Burn."

"And I'm Sarah Delaney"

"Hi. I'm Elimear Willow

They all got into their four poster beds and went to sleep.

In the boys dorm:
"Tired..." Remus groaned

"Ditto." said Sirius

"I feel...like playing a prank." said James changing out of his robes.

"Yeah!" said the other two. Just then the short boy Peter came in, it seemed that they were sharing the dorm with him too. Then another boy that they introduced themselves to, was named Bryan Faxton.
