Chile Argentina

There is a long-standing dispute over ownership of the Beagle Channel, giving access to potentially oil-bearing sea bed. The Chilean military are not always under civilian control. Neither have the Argentine military been in the past.

However, the Argentine army is at last being starved of resources by the present government (as a result of economic collapse) so perhaps this dispute may fade away.

Since the ending of the more or less fascist Pinochet regime in Chile the Chilean military are also more under civilian control.
