Explanation
The Dutch created the colony of the Dutch East Indies but
never entirely subdued the people of north Sumatra, who since
independence have been fighting the state of Indonesia on the
grounds that they never assented to join it.
A Ceasefire was agreed after the Tsunami of December 2004.
Will the war now come to an end? If so, development in the northern
part of the country can continue with peace.
