Trivia: Why do chili peppers taste so hot?
The active ingredient in hot chili peppers is a substance called capsaicin. It is so potent that even a minute amount has a strong effect. Why does capsaicin taste so "hot?" There are receptor molecules in the membranes of certain pain sensor nerves that respond strongly to capsaicin molecules. Heat, acids, and other various chemical or physical stimuli, including injuries also activate the same pain receptors. So Capsaicin's "hot" taste is created by directly activating the heat/pain sensory system. What's more, once capsaicin has triggered a receptor, the same receptor becomes even more sensitive to heat, making warm soup taste even hotter.
Cool word: dissonance (DIS-uh-nance), noun - A harsh or inharmonious combination, especially of sounds; elements of a logical argument that are in conflict.
Not Much Done

I’ve been trying to write this article all day and I’m coming up with things I hate.
The how-to part is easy, but I don’t know how to make it interesting. If I follow Michael’s advice, I’ll just be me, but I’m not sure that’s the right thing to do.
Anyways, I’m writing and writing and will eventually come up with something I can live with. I’m thinking about sending it to Michael when I finish it to ask him to edit it. The problem is I know he’s away for a couple of days and that he’s out straight with his own work, and I don’t want to impose.
Guess I’ll just wait and see.
I’d like to have the words written by the time I go to bed, and then I’ll try to get some artwork done tomorrow.
We have a performance tomorrow, so I’ll be gone from ten thirty till at least two, so I’m cutting it close. I’ll have no time at all on Tuesday or Wednesday so it’s tomorrow or never to get this art stuff done and in the mail. Of course I don’t have a single idea in my head at the moment.
No pressure here.
HA!

I’d like to back out of tomorrow’s performance, but don’t see how I possibly can on that I’m emceeing it and it’s a paying job. I can’t just give up on it and not show up.
Maybe I’ll take Tuesday off from work.
Now that’s a possibility!

I met the most interesting man last night. He was sitting next to me at the theatre. He was handsome and friendly and interesting to talk to. And gay. I was so disappointed when I realized that.
Don’t get me wrong, two of my closest friends are gay men, but you know, I’d like to have a straight man in my life. He was with friends, and it wasn’t until I met the friends that I realized this fellow was gay. He was articulate, into the arts, and a wonderful conversationalist. I should have guessed that he was too good to be true.
Oh well.
I had a great time talking with him.

It was interesting to people watch last night, as it was quite an eclectic audience. There were older couples, the women in long dresses (some were crushed velvet, they must have been dying of the heat!), the men in dark suits. There were young women in very short casual skirts and blouses. Men in black t-shirts and sports coat – one was in a fire engine red one, and had a neck full of gold chains as well, he reminded me of the character in "While You Were Sleeping". There were women dressed casually in slacks and blazers, and men in similar attire. I even saw a couple of men in tuxedos and pleat front shirts. It was interesting.
My seat was in what they called the "orchestra box". It was way in the back of the orchestra and reminded me of pews in an old New England church. There was wonderful legroom. It was a bit farther from the stage than I like, but boy it was comfortable!

My Red Sox are giving me hope again.
I will be a much happier person if they manage to come back and win this series.
