“So does this mean you two are together now?” Olivia asked Kate. I hope not. He may be my friend, but he doesn’t deserve her yet.
“No, it doesn’t. What happened is just that we forgive each other for the things that have happened. We understand each other,” Kate said, turning the TV off.
“Right. So how long do you think it will be until they get back together?” Liv asked me.
“I give them until the end of the day,” I said, picking up my bag.
“Ha ha Natalia. You’re just jealous,” Kate said.
“Jealous of what? You don’t have anyone, neither of us do. Get used to it and love being a single girl,” I said. Kate gave me a look and turned the TV back on.
“There’s nothing on these stations that I have ever heard of. Why don’t they import Dawson’s or Buffy. That would make my stay here complete,” She said.
“Kate, we’re in England. Watch something English. Like Tellitubbies,” Sara said, laughing. Kate was about to hurl the remote at her.
“Ok, so we’re gonna go now,” Sara said, realizing that her life was at stake. “Come on Natalia, let’s go now.”
“Where are you going?” Liv asked.
“Oh, well. We’re going to lunch at this place,” Sara stuttered.
“Oh, well, I’ll come with you,” Liv said, snatching up her coat.
“Well, we have reservations. Sorry,” Sara said quickly before ushering me out the door.
“We don’t have reservations, do we?” I asked her. She doesn’t need all that just to take me to lunch cause I’m bored.
“No, not really. I just wanted Liv to stay at home. This is for us to go to,” She said.
DAVE
“Bob, where is my black tee-shirt?” I shouted to him as I pulled out every bit of clothing I had in my dresser.
“It’s on the floor by your foot,” He said, coming out of the bathroom from where he was brushing his teeth. “Ok, so here’s the deal. We’re gonna pick up some lunch and then we’re gonna hit the Rock and Roll Wax Museum.”
“Yeah ok. I love that place it’s so cool. I get scared though. They look so real I think they are gonna come to kill me later,” I told him. He looked at me and started to laugh.
“They used to scare me when I was a kid. It still scares me sometimes. Hey to an eight year old Boy George can be very frightening,” I told him as I slipped on my shirt. I hope we see Nati when we go out, I look pretty styling in this shirt.
“Ok, so we should be going now,” Bob said, as he opened the door and ushered me out. We went down the hallway to the elevator.
“Press the button,” Bob told me. I did and the doors opened revealing Nati and Sara.
“Oh hey guys. What’s up?” Bob said, and we went into the elevator. I hate him. He planned this.
Nati glared at Sara and then at Bob. I knew it, she hates me.
“Hey Bob. Hey Dave. Where are you guys going to today?” Sara asked politely.
“Oh we were just going to lunch and then to the Rock and Roll Wax Museum. Where are you going to?” Bob said.
“We’re just going back to our rooms,” Nati said and she pushed the buttons. The elevator stopped. “Fuck!”
“Nati, what did you do?” Sara shouted.
“Um, it seems that the elevator has stopped,” Nati said, turning around slowly.
“Well is there a phone or something we can use to call service attendants?” Bob asked. He looked around by the buttons but there wasn’t anything but buttons.
“We’re stuck! We’re stuck in here forever!” Sara said, getting nervous.
“Sara calm down. Someone’s bound to notice sooner or later. We’ll get out in a few hours,” I said. Stop flipping out.
“No, Dave. You’re so stupid. She’s claustrophobic. She can’t take small spaces for more than a minute or two,” Nati said, rushing to Sara. The first thing she’s said to me in a week and it was that I was stupid.
“It’s ok Sara. Close your eyes and try to think of being in a wide open field. Think Sound of Music,” She said.
OLIVIA
“I want to get out of here! I’m gonna go crazy,” Kate screamed. Oh shut up. I’m trying to watch TV.
“Liv. Let’s go out. I don’t know where we can go, but someplace interesting and let’s go soon,” Kate said, putting her hair in a ponytail and picking up her bag.
“I don’t want to go out. I’m quite content watching this wonderful English television series. Go out yourself,” I told her. This station sucks.
“Fine. Then I’m taking Clint with me,” She said as she popped out the door. She better hadn’t try. I threw the remote on the bed and raced after her out the door.
“Ha. We have to go now, you’re locked out,” She said, waiting for me right outside the door. I hate her.
“Come on, bitch. Where do you want to go?” I said, grabbing her arm and taking her down the stairs.
“Um…how about Sega World. Hanson’s been there Liv, you’d love it,” She told me. Fine. She wins.
“Ok, but we have to be back soon. Ingrid is about to cheat on Donald.”
SCOTT
"I’m dying a slow death. Should I call her, Clint? I don’t know. I know we aren’t together again. But should I call her? See what she wants to do? Maybe we can go out? That would be fun. Or it’s almost lunchtime, we could go out to that café by the water. Or we could get some really good authentic Fish and Chips. I saw a place that sells that. Or we could just go take a walk. See the changing of the guards or something like that. That would be nice. I just want to be with her, I don’t think she hates me anymore. Oh god why did I do all that stuff. I was so stupid. And she kissed me back after that whole, well, you know. She did, I could feel it. Well, it wasn’t very distinct but I know she has to feel something for me. She’s got to, I heard all the stuff she said to Shane and when I asked her about if it was true, she said yes. So that’s got to mean something right?”
“Shut the fuck up Scott. Before I throttle you.”
“Right-o.”
NATALIA
“GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!” Sara said, getting up to pound on the door, for the second time.
“Hey hey, come on. Sit back down, think of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, in a field and you’re very warm. Very warm,” I said, fanning her off. Bob glared at me and I shrugged. If it makes her shut up.
“Are they gonna come soon? This is so boring,” Dave whined.
“Shut up! Can’t you see Sara’s going mental? You’re so annoying,” I said.
“Annoying? Well that’s the least I could say about you!” He shouted. I am gonna kill him, just give me a second to get over there.
“Oh, so now you talk to me! You know I’ve been waiting for more than a month for you to answer me,” I said
“Well I’m answering you now. What is it that you wanted to say to me?” He said, getting up inches from my face.
“You’re a dick Dave. I spend months trying to stay with you while we’re apart and I come back just to find out that you never cared,” I said.
“What the hell are you talking about?” He said, looking at me with wild eyes.
“I’ve written more than a dozen letters, called you enough times to be in debt with my mother, and not a single thing back. What’s up with that Dave? I’ve given you my heart and fucking soul and all I get back is a chance to not talk to you again,” I said, fighting to keep the tears back.
“I never got any letters. And I was too afraid to call you back. I’m not good on the phone,” He said, turning around.
“Oh well that’s a lame ass excuse Dave. You know, I thought you were different. I thought you were finally someone I could count on. Even if I wasn’t with you forever, I would always be friends with you. But I can’t even count on you for that,” I screamed at him.
“You’re so fucking clueless. You wouldn’t know what was happening if it came around and bit you in the ass,” He said.
“Well, then if I’m so clueless, why don’t you tell me what’s really going on here? Tell me what you’re thinking right now Dave?” I wanted to know the truth, if I ever had a chance with him again. And from right now, I know I probably don’t.
“I’m thinking what the fuck I did to deserve you,” He said. I looked up at him, my hair all messy, tears running down my cheek.
“So this is what it comes down to, huh Dave?” I said.
“Natalia I didn’t--”
“I don’t think I want to know you anymore,” I said. He turned around and punched the wall. The elevator moved.
“We’re moving? We’re moving!” Sara shouted. Bob helped her up.
“I’m sorry Sara. I have to get the hell out of here,” I said as I ran out of the elevator and down the hall to my room.
“Natalia, wait!” Dave said as he ran after me.
“Dave, as far as I’m concerned, I don’t know you. Stay out of my life, I’ll stay out of yours. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some songs to write,” I said, tears streaming down my face. I must have looked like a perfect wreck.
“Hold on!” He said. I slammed the door in his face and broke down. I grabbed my song book and climbed out the window onto the roof. That’s where I’ve been sitting to write my songs. No one can hurt me there.
KATE
“I didn’t know there were so many different video games in the world. Let’s go play some,” I said as Liv dragged her feet behind me.
“Let’s not and say we did,” She said.
“Oh come on Liv. Have some fun! Let’s play a racing game or something. I bet I can beat you,” I said. That should get her going.
“Yeah right you can beat me. You pick the game, I’ll be there.”
Hehe, I knew it. “Ok. How about that one over there. That looks like fun,” I said.
“Ok, let’s go play,” We stepped up to the virtual reality game and strapped on the helmets.
“Ready Kate?” Liv asked.
“Sure,” We started racing. She was beating me so much, but I was letting her win. If she kept winning, she’d stay happy. If she lost, we’d have to go home.
SCOTT
“Don’t you think she looked good in that picture? I shouldn’t have smashed it, it was the best picture I had of her. Well, I’m just gonna have to take some more of her, make them better. Should I call her? I could go take the pictures now and then they would be done by tomorrow and then I could just get a new frame later tomorrow or something and it would all be fine then. Where should I take pictures of her? Oh, maybe I should wait till we go to France and then I can take pictures of her on the Eiffel Tower or something. No, that’s not good, cause her hair might get all messy and she wouldn’t like that. So I could take her to a nice café or something equally romantic. Not that I want her back or anything. Well, ok so I do. But this would just be a ‘friends’ thing, you know? Cause I think she just wants to be friends for a while. Oh well, we’ve got six months together. I can get her back by then. Hopefully. What do you think?”
“Shut the fuck up Scott.”
“Ok.”
NATALIA
“Nati! Where are you? I know you came in here, I saw you!” Sara screamed for me. Oh god, she’s gonna find out where I am. Oh well.
“Sara I’m up here,” I popped my head down from the roof.
“Natalia! What the hell are you doing up there? Trying to be like Cole?” She asked, running to the window.
“No, I’m not that stupid. I’m just writing,” I said.
“Oh, well. I’m gonna go out to pick up some dinner. Want anything?” she asked.
“Ok, get me fish and chips and coke. Thanks Sara,” I went back up to the roof and sat down. So far I had written three songs and I wasn’t through yet.
DAVE
“Thanks Sara,” She let me in the room quietly. I sneaked across the room and looked around for Nati. Where could she be?
“Dave!” Sara whispered. I turned around and she pointed up to the roof. She’s up on the roof??
I started to climb up quietly and almost lost my balance. I looked down to the ground five stories down. I hate heights. And Natalia does this all the time?
I finally got up and saw her sitting there in the middle of the roof writing. She didn’t see me. I walked over to her quietly and she still didn’t notice.
I stood in front of her for a few minutes just watching her write. I was so sorry for saying those things. I know from what she’s told me before that she’d probably forgive me, but she’s never forget it. I should have stopped myself.
“Natalia...” I said softly.
“Dave! What the hell are you doing here? I thought I made it clear that I didn’t want to talk to you!” She said, getting up and walking away from me.
“Natalia, please. Just hear me out,” I said, pleading with her. I hope she doesn’t push me off the roof.
She just looked at me, arms crossed. I pulled out a book from my messenger bag and handed it to her.
“What’s this?” She asked.
“It’s just something I want you to see. I’m sorry about everything. I was so mad because we hadn’t talked and it was only for a week. I’m sorry about what I said, I didn’t mean it. You know that,” I said. If I wanted her back, I’m gonna have to beg.
She looked through the book and read some of the stuff I had written. In the book was everything I had written during the time we had been apart. Songs, poems, short stories, mostly about her and some about us. A single tear ran down her cheek.
“I know you won’t forget what I said, and I accept that. But I still want to be with you, even if it’s just as friends,” I said. I stood there waiting for her to say something.
She came over to me, hugged me and kissed my cheek.
“Thank you,” was all she said. She let go of me and started to climb back down the window.
KATE
Olivia was beaming. She has beat me at every game we played. But that was ok. At least she wasn’t complaining.
“Hey let’s go see if Clint and Scott want to go get dinner or something?” Olivia said, grabbing my hand.
“Um, ok. Sure,” I said. We walked down to their room and knocked on the door.
“Hey you guys. It’s us, can we come in?” Liv asked through the door. It opened and we stepped into the room. It was miraculously clean.
“What the...?” I said, accidentally aloud.
“Surprised that it’s clean? Well, I’m a neat freak. I have to have it clean,” Clint said. I’ll marry him instead of Ben Affleck, if Liv would let me.
“Hey, what’s up?” Scott said, smiling at me. I smiled weakly.
“Let’s go out and have dinner,” I said to everyone.
“Oh, ok. Great. See you later Clint,” Scott said, grabbing his jacket and my hand.
“Scott! Scott, wait, I meant everyone,” I said, stopping him. His face went red and he turned around.
“Oh,” he said. Clint and Olivia were laughing at him. They are so mean.
“Where does EVERYONE want to go to eat?” Olivia asked.
“How about the place around the corner? It’s fast and right here,” Clint suggested.
“Ok. NOW we can leave Scott,” I said to him. We left the room and started down the stairs.
“Hey Scott, how come you didn’t call?” I asked him. He tripped down the stairs.
