“Scott, wake up,” I was trying to wake Scott up at noon. He’d never slept as late as this before.
“Aww come on Clint. Let me sleep,” He told me. Something must be wrong. Maybe it has something to do with what happened last night.
“Come on, bro. Talk to me. I know that you don’t sleep like this all the time. What’s wrong?” I sat down at the end of his bed. Scott turned around and looked at me.
“When you guys were out, I decided to have my own fun,” He said before turning around to go back to sleep.
Oh god. It’s happening again. And isn’t it legal here now? I checked under his bed. There they were, the empty bottles of vodka and rum. This was why he slept in. He has a hangover.
“Come on, Scott. You’ve got to get up. We’re going out to Camden Market and you’ve got to come. Dad will get suspicious,” I told him. I pulled the blankets off him and took some clothes out of his dresser.
“I can’t go out, I can’t be seen with the heartless wench that broke my heart,” He said. Ok enough with the dramatics.
“Get your lazy ass out of bed. Don’t let her think you are a wimp. Take a shower, throw some sunglasses on and get over her. And do it quickly. We’re leaving in fifteen minutes,” I told him. I hope he’s not like this for long.
KATE
“I want Oreos,” Natalia said, throwing her bag over her shoulder.
“Yeah! Let’s get Oreos somewhere,” Liv said.
“Hey Kate, do you prefer the chocolate of the Oreo or the creamy white stuff?” Scott asked me, smiling annoyingly. I’m gonna kill him, I am GOING TO KILL HIM.
“Um, I don’t think there are any convenience stores around here,” Dave said, calmly ignoring Scott’s remark. Oh, Dave I love you.
“What? Oh there has to be one. There’s always a Quik-i-mart on a corner somewhere,” Liv said, whining.
“Hate to tell you Liv, but there aren’t any stores like that around,” Clint told her. Oh, well. We can get some when we get back to the hotel.
“How are you liking London, Kate?” Shane asked me, slipping an arm around my waist. Oh it’s lovely, especially with Scott the rat bastard at my side.
“It’s really great. I’m loving it,” I said, smiling. I could see the whites of Scott’s eyes. Perfect.
“Well, there are some really nice historical places in the London area. I want to take you to this castle with these magnificent gardens, you would love it,” He told me. My face dropped.
“There is this one part of the garden, where there is a lily pond surrounded by a gate. I used to go there and write for hours. That’s where I wrote the song for you, remember?” He smiled at me. I was shaking.
“Yes, just remember to tell your secrets BEFORE you go there,” Scott said, grumbling. I whipped around and Shane looked equally mad. “What the HELL is that supposed to mean?” I spat out.
“Oh, nothing. I’m just in AWE of how well you two get along together,” He glared at me smugly.
“Well, thanks Scott. Hey I’m really sorry about this whole mess. I guess it was just my turn with her,” Shane laughed. Careful Shane, Scott won’t be afraid to kill you.
Scott’s eyes narrowed and we turned around and kept walking. We turned the corner and came upon an interesting looking liquor store.
“I’ll be right back,” Scott said.
“Hey! See if they have Oreos in there,” Liv called after him . How can she be thinking about Oreos at a time like this?
Scott went into the store. Oh god, isn’t he 18 now? And the drinking age in England is 18, oh fuck.
“What’s wrong with Scott today? It’s overcast, how come he needs glasses?” Liv asked us.
“He’s hung over, Liv,” Sara told her. Liv looked stunned.
“But he’s not old enough to drink,” She said.
“He is here, the drinking age in England is 18, Scott’s 18,” Bob said with a sigh.
“You make it sound like it’s always been a problem,” Natalia said, sitting down on the pavement.
“Well, it has. The drinking age in Italy is 16 and so it’s been a problem since Scott was 16,” Clint told us. I didn’t know Scott drank so much.
Scott came out with a brown paper bag. “All set. Hey Nati, put this in your bag, ok?” He said. Don’t you dare do it Natalia, or I’m never speaking to you again.
“Sure. What did you get?” She asked him, fitting the bag in her shoulder bag. I am going to kill her.
“Oh just some random liquor. I’ll show you later,” He said, grinning. Don’t you dare corrupt my friends! Oh well, Nati was already corrupted.
“We should be getting back to the hotel, it’s almost five,” Dave said, staring at Natalia with fury in his eyes. God, what’s his problem?
“Yeah, you’re right,” Bob said. Nati got up off the pavement and we started walking back.
“So, Shane,” Clint started to make small talk. “What kind of a band do you have?”
“Oh, well it’s kind of a mixture of Pop/rock. You know, like Sugar Ray,” Shane smiled. Yeah, that’s it. Make friends Shane.
“Oh really? I would have pegged you as a Barbara Streisand fan myself,” Scott blurted out. Ok, that’s the fucking last straw.
Shane whipped around and looked Scott in the eye, which was about a foot below him. “What’s your bloody problem man? What the hell did I ever do to you?”
Scott didn’t say a word. He just stared him in the eye and smiled. For being a rat bastard, he sure had balls.
“Ok, ok, break it up. Let’s go now,” Bob took Scott’s arm and pulled him away. His ass is grass when we get back to the hotel.
It was a silent walk back to the hotel. Shane kissed me and apologized for this afternoon.
“Oh, don’t worry. It wasn’t your fault. I’ll call you tonight,” I told him in the lobby.
“Ok, goodnight Kaithlyn,” God I love how he says that with his British accent. So sexy.
Scott bounded into the lobby. “Isn’t it past your bed time?” He asked Shane as he sped past him on his way to the stairs.
Shane rolled his eyes and kissed me goodnight.
Now it’s time to kill Scott. I’ve got a .45 and a shovel, I doubt anyone would miss him.
I took the stairs two at a time and ran down the corridor to Scott’s room. Lord help the people who might get in my way.
I pounded on the door and kicked it open. “What the fuck! If you break something, you’re paying for it,” Scott said in a snotty voice.
“What the hell is your problem? Where the fuck do you get off on being so incredibly rude to Shane and I?” I spewed out, fuming with anger.
“Who?” Scott asked, calm as an ocean breeze. Oh, now I am not responsible for any and all physical pain I inflict upon him.
I stepped up to him and put my face three inches from his. “I bitch slapped you once, and I can do it again. Don’t think I won’t. And Britney’s not here to service your wounds afterwards,” I said through clenched teeth.
“Fuck you Kate. You could at least had the decency to not bring Shane with you,” Scott said, reaching under his bed.
“What? I can’t live my own life with my friends? How long was I supposed to keep it a secret from you Scott?” I asked him.
“I have a better question for you: How long did you intend to keep it a secret from me?”
I was speechless. He was right; I never intended on telling him anything about Shane. I didn’t plan on staying with Shane this long either though.
“Well?” Scott asked, as he watched my every movement, surveying me for weaknesses. He pulled out the bottle of vodka and unscrewed the cap.
“You know, now I realize why I got together with Shane in the first place. He was you, but without the faults,” I said.
Scott took one look at me and brought his lips to the bottle. He took a long swig of the drink, all the while keeping his eyes on mine.
I couldn’t take it anymore. “Go ahead, fuck yourself over see what I care,” I mumbled as I stormed out of the room.
SARA
“Sara, can I talk to you for a second?” Natalia quietly came into Liv and my room. It was about 11 at night.
“What’s the matter Natalia?” Liv asked.
“Can I stay in here for a little while with you guys? I want to talk to someone about Dave,” She said.
“Why didn’t you go to Kate?” I asked her.
“Kate’s got her own problems right now. She’s all worked up over Scott. I’m afraid that if I rant to her about Dave she’ll want to slash his throat. And we can’t have that happening,” Natalia said as she flopped down on Liv’s bed.
“Well, what do you want to talk to us about?” Liv asked her, smoothing out her sheets as best she could.
“I want Dave,” Natalia whined. Oh god, then go get him, don’t bother us.
“Well then go get him, and don’t bother us!” Liv said, opening the door.
“Liv! You are so rude! We can help you as much as we can, Nati,” I said, shutting the door.
“Did you see him tonight? He didn’t say one word to me! And he didn’t even look at me. He hates me, I know it,” She said.
“You are just overreacting. Give him sometime. He might just be shy,” Liv said. That’s what I said.
“I know, but, oh I explained it to Sara before,” Natalia said, putting a pillow over her head.
“Do you want him?” I asked her.
“Yes, but I’m sure he doesn’t want me,” Nati said.
“Don’t be so negative. How do you know?” Liv asked.
“Little things. Like if I’m reaching for something and so is he, he’ll pull his hand away if we brush together. Or I’ll say something and he’ll stare at me like it’s the stupidest thing in the world,” Nati said.
“You are just paranoid. We’ve only been here for three days,” Liv told her, brushing her teeth.
“Well, it wasn’t like this last year,” Nati said solemnly.
“Nothing is how it was last year, have you noticed that? Kate and Scott are spitting fire at each other. Clint and Liv are all over each other. Bob and I are the only sane ones here,” I said, fluffing up my pillow. Olivia glared at me from the bathroom.
“Will you talk to him for me? See if he hates me with the fire of a thousand suns,” Natalia said, getting up to leave.
“Sure, I’ll talk to you tomorrow. Good night,” I said to her. She left and Liv and I went to sleep.
BOB
“Natalia hates me! She thinks I’m shit!” Dave screamed. I put in the earplugs I wore when Dave snored. It seemed like a good a time as any.
“She doesn’t hate you,” I said, trying to make him feel better.
“But you haven’t seen her when she is mad at someone, Bob. She doesn’t say it right out, she shows it in little ways. Ways you wouldn’t pick up unless you knew. She fucking hates my guts,” He said again before pulling the sheets over his head.
“How could she hate you? She loved you to death last year!” Clint said. He was staying with us in our room until Scott cooled off.
“Look at Kate and Scott! They fucking are ready to pull out a magnum and shoot each others brains out!” Dave told us.
“Don’t use Kate and Scott, they aren’t a good example,” Clint said, raising his eyebrows and rolling his eyes.
“All I’m saying is that if you knew Nati like I do, you would know she would have done something to show she was still interested in me. Or at least shown me I was worth talking to,” Dave said.
“I bet you ten dollars she doesn’t hate you,” I said. I know the truth.
“I’m not making a bet over Natalia,” Dave said, looking me straight in the eye.
“Fine, all I know is that she does not hate you,” I told him as he got into bed.
“Find out what she really thinks for me?” Dave asked.
“Yeah sure. In the morning. I’m going to go check on Scott. If you hear noises, like, loud ones, come in and save me,” I told them before going over into Scott’s room.
“Scott? Unlock the door, it’s Bob,” I said. I hope Scott hasn’t given himself alcohol poisoning again.
“Hold on,” Scott said. I could hear his body slam against the door and then he opened it.
“Come on in, Bob-o” He said, slurring. He was definitely wasted.
“Scott, you can’t keep doing this to yourself,” I said.
“Yes I can. It’s legal, I enjoy it. It keeps me from hurting,” He said, sitting back down on his bed and picking up the already half gone bottle of vodka.
“Scott, give me the bottle. You’ve had enough to drink,” I said.
“No, it’s my bottle, I bought it. Get your own,” He said, holding the bottle to himself like I was going to steal it.
“Scott, give me the bottle,” He shook his head no. “Give me the damn bottle Scott!” I shouted.
“Fine!” Scott threw the bottle at me. I ducked and it smashed into shards of glass on the wall behind me.
