Brent Johnson/Reed Low Interview
Here is Part 2 of the Interview
MT: Thanks for dialing this one up, IceCats games coming up this weekend. It is Quebec on Friday and Philadelphia coming in on Saturday night, both those games face off at 7:35 and incidentaly, it's Bud Light night on Saturday, they're giving away keychains to the first 2500, I've actually seen them they're pretty cool keychains, they have Worcester IceCat on the front and they're shaped like a long-neck beer bottle. So, first 2500 adults through the door anyou can have one of those this Saturday, again both games at 7:35. And you should be thinking hockey these days as baseball is over, the New York Yankees finishing it off last night, either of you guys baseball fans?
RL: Uh, I'm a baseball fan but I like the Blue Jays so I won't say nothing.
BJ: I'm not.
MT: Not at all?
BJ: Detroit's never done anything for me.
MT: Now you're from, obviously, Michigan, as you mentioned Detroit, but no other team as far college teams, basketball, you don't sit down and watch a little golf every once in a while?
BJ: Oh golf for sure, I'm all over golf.
RL: Yea.
BJ: I'm all over the majors.
RL: I like the NFL too.
MT: NFL, who's your team?
RL: Uh, I like the Bills & the Broncos.
BJ: (laughs)
MT: Why are you laughing?
BJ: He likes those CFL teams, don't let him kid you.
RL: Yup, Saskatchewan Rough Riders.
MT: Have you ever been to a CFL game?
RL: Oh lots of them, I live 45 minutes or a half hour away from the Rough Riders, I go to one before I come down for hockey each year. They start early, they start in July so, Grey Cup I think it's in mid-November, so, the NFL's just heatin' up by then.
MT: Yea, you're Canadian, here's maybe a stupid question, I've never done it but every time I go up to Canada and I'm usually around hockey rinks, they have a curling rink nearby or a curling lane, I'm not sure what you call it, but curling this year or last year, it became an Olympic sport and I dialed it up.
RL: Canadians kick ass in that too
MT: Was it fun? Have you ever done it?
BJ: I don't think they have those in Moose Jaw.
RL: Oh yea, we got curling rinks in Moose Jaw, I tried it once in grade 12 and it's hard, throwing that rock down the ice isn't as easy as it looks but it's fun.
MT: So, what, there's a......
RL: There's no contact in that though.
MT: Yea it might be a more enjoyable sport if there was contact other than the rocks hitting one another.
BJ: Yea you could beat eachother with the brooms.
MT: (laughs) Sweep eachother out of the way. Again the number to call if you're looking to call, 755-0058, our guests this week, Brent Johnson and Reed Low, Reed you mentioned Moose Jaw, what is Moose Jaw like?
RL: Moose Jaw's a rockin' little city, it's a town of about 35,000, which is the 2nd biggest in all of Saskatchewan. You know the funny thing is, there's more people, there's only about 850 or 900,000 people that live in all of Saskatchewan and you could probably fit 6 or 7 states of Massachusetts in Saskatchewan's land mass. So, we're pretty spread out, alot of towns of 500 to 1000 people......there wasn't any lack of ice rinks there when I was a kid.
MT: No, I imagine not, But Moose Jaw, where is it situated? It's suppossed to be half way between where and where?
RL: We're the midlands, the prairre and I'm in between probably Toronto & Vancouver, we're kind of the middle point, Regina & Moose Jaw.
MT: And I take it was established as kind of a railway type of place?
RL: Yea, thats the big attraction.....
MT: Look at me, I'm up on my Moose Jaw statistics.
RL: Yes you are, you did some studying.
MT: No, I just looked over the Moose Jaw website, you know you can read your hometown newspaper, you ever check in on things like that?
RL: Oh the Moose Jaw Times Herald, yea I check in on that every once in a while.
MT: And where is Farmington, Michigan in relation to Detroit Brent?
BJ: It's around a half hour west of Detroit, it's a pretty big city, but it's nothing like Moose Jaw, I mean, I can't compare to that.
MT: Were you a Wings fan?
BJ: Well of course, you know, my grandfather played for the Wings so did my uncle so yea, I was always a Wings fan growing up and............whats that?
RL: I don't think they mentioned Detroit, Michigan in the movie Slapshot, but I don't know, thats just what I hear.
BJ: No, I don't think they did either.
RL: They mentioned Moose Jaw in there.
MT: Oh they mention Moose Jaw, they also mention Binghamton, New York which is where I was last couple of years.
BJ: Hey, Charlestown too......the Cheifs.
MT: It seems like every year you must see that movie on a bus going to another game.
BJ: I've seen that movie too many times.
RL: 10 guys could sit around and recite that whole thing.....classic for the hockey player.
