If you hadnt already guessed, HTML is the main language used to create web pages. In fact, that is wat I am using to build this site. As the header of this page states, HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language. In other words, your web browser reads these tags, and shows you the page the way that the HTML tags tell it to. Tags are commands set between "<"'s and ">"'s. The first clue that your browser gets that it is gonna be getting HTML commands is the first tag, "html". (put between thos funny brackets of course) This tag starts every page. Most tags also have an end tag, which is the same tag only with a "/" before it. So to end your page you would put "/html". (once again, between the brackets) As an explaination for why I dont show the brackets around them is the fact that if i typed them in here, you would not see the tag because your browser reads them as tags and doesn't show them. If you're interested in learning HTML I would suggest checking out the 7 day primer program provided by HTMLgoodies.com If your serious I would suggest going to a large bookstore like Borders or Barnes and Nobles and picking up a nice, thick, HTML Bible or Dictionary. Their quite expensive, something between $25 to $75. Thats too much for my small budget, so I just spend the extra time doing web searches at Google on html tags till i find the site that had the tag that i need. After that, check out the friendly site at Angelfire and see about setting up a free site like mine. (only you'll be limited in space and have those ugly banners) but hell, I'm not complaining! Its free dammit!! |
