A Comparison of American Country Western and Bluegrass and Thai Luktoong
Luktoong and Country
Both Luktoong and American Country share similar themes, expressing love, heartbreak,
And the love of the rural areas. The sounds are often more mellow and almost drone-like, as opposed to the
fast paced, loud, and complex sounds of rock and other popular genres.
Luktoong is the name given to the genre of music from the area of Isan in Thailand. This genre is generally more popular
with the older and rural populations of Thailand, but efforts are being made to popularize this style with teenagers.
American Country, the genre under which Western and Bluegrass generally fall, are most popular with the rural Southern and Midwestern populations.
It is characterised by expressing familiar scenes of rural life and general themes of love.
