Chapter Five

Everyone seemed to be effected by Briten's cancer. All Briten's reletives, including her father, had been giving her the "special" treatment, as Briten used to call it when she was younger. It was when people were going out of their way to be nice to you even if they didn't want to. And Brooke. Well, Brooke was acting as if she was the one who had cancer! She moped around at school all the time, and always shot looks of sympathy to Briten, who was trying to stay under controal the best she could.

She had one person on her mine - Jason. How was she going to break the news to her boyfriend for three months? He was the best thing in the world to her and she didn't want to lose him to cancer.

She spotted him by his locker talking to his friends. She took a deep breath, flung her blonde hair behind her shoulders, and started walking towards him. He saw her coming, and said a quick goodbye to his friends. Briten leaned against a row of lockers. She was beginning to get the side effects from chemotheropy. Her stomach was beginning to feel achy and she was always tired.

Stiffling a yawn, she smiled, and gave him a quick kiss when he walked up to her. "Hey J," she said, grinning.

"Hey Bri," he said. He was the only one who called her "Bri". In fact, he was the only one she let call her "Bri".

"Jason, this isn't going to be easy to tell you, but I have to get it over with, so don't say anything until I'm finished, okay?"

Jason nodded, a confused look in his eyes.

"You see, I went to the doctor's over the weekend... I wasn't feeling good, and I noticed a small lump on my arm...so I went to see what was wrong...and I found out...that I have cancer," Briten said, rushing things out in-between pauses.

"Cancer?"

"Cancer."

Jason got a weird look in his eyes. "Jason... Whats---whats wrong?" Briten asked, worried.

"I just can't believe it. You were so healthy a couple of days ago."

"No...no I wasn't, I just didn't want to admit it to you. Or anyone else, not even to myself. I knew something was seriously wrong... I-I just didn't want to know what."

"You lied to me."

"What?"

"I asked you a week ago if you were okay, and you said you were fine. Bri, you lied to me."

"I just didn't want to worry anyone, Jason, espically you."

"Briten, I don't think that's it. You lied to me. Thats what were talking about here, why did you lie to me?"

"Jason, I already told you, because-"

"Forget it, Briten," Jason said, and walked away.

Briten was shocked. She knew something was up. Jason wouldn't just blow up at her like that, she knew him too well. Something was definately wrong, and she was going to find out what.
