giles bashful? beaming from tripod Passion

Season 2, Episode 17 (Episode 29 of entire series)

This episode is the darkest episode to date. Although there's hope at first when Jenny Calendar believes she's translated the incantation that would restore Angel's soul, she doesn't get to put it to use. Why not? Because this episode marks the death of Jenny Calendar at the hands of Angel. It's also in this episode that Buffy determines she's finally ready to kill Angel. Also, this episode is the first time that some voice-over narration is used; throughout the episode, Angel expounds on what drives and defines passion. Yikes.

PLOT:

Show opens with Angel doing some voice-over about Passion; he's lurking in the shadows, watching the gang at The Bronze. Buffy's with Willow, Xander, and Cordy. Everything seems swell. It's entirely creepy to see Angel in Buffy's room while she sleeps; very chilling.

Buffy wakes up the next day to find a drawing of her sleeping; she knows that Angel's left it for her, so she goes to the library to tell Giles about it. Xander and Cordy are also in the library; it's in this scene that Buffy asks about a ritual that could uninvite Angel from their homes. Cordy lets on that she once offered Angel a ride in her car. Jonathan comes in looking for a book on Stalin. This scene is especially amusing since it actually focuses on the fact that the "Slayer headquarters"is the school library, and that no one ever really goes in there. (See Never Kill a Boy on the First Date; that's the episode where Giles is surprised that Owen has come looking for a book.). The gang leaves the library to talk more about the problems with Angel.

Basically, Buffy's freaked because she knows that Angel still has a free pass into her home and that she won't always be around when her mom is. Giles tells her he'll look for a spell to reverse the invitation. This makes Cordy a little happy too..I mean, after all, she did invite Angel into her car once...my guess is it was during Some Assembly Required.

Anyhoo, Buffy later tells her mom that she and Angel were sort of dating but now that they're not, he's sort of obsessed and won't stop following her around. She tells Joyce if he stops by, not to let him inside. I noticed that they're having chicken or turkey for dinner. It looked like a well-balanced meal. It makes me think that the Summers eat pretty healthfully...

Meanwhile, Angel's still terrorizing the gang. When Willow and Buffy are on the phone one evening, Willow notices an envelope. Inside are her fish, on a string, kinda in the not-living state. She and Buffy do a sleepover with weapons at Buffy's house. Yi.

Throughout this whole thing, Jenny's still receiving some not friendly vibes from Buffy et al.
