To learn more about Magick, read "What is my idea of Magick?"
Set a container of water out to distill in preferably a glass or clear container, or you can use bottled water. We will come back to the water later.
Always, if possible, bathe before performing any magick. Being physically clean helps to clean your energy as well, but is not necessary.
If you would like to perfect the ritual, pick out an outfit to be worn only while performing spell or during rituals. Basic colors are best; it's purely a matter of personal taste.
Clean the surface you intend to work on with your choice of cleansers, then set your container of water that had been set out to distill, on the surface. Place your hands on the container and imagine the water to be pure and void of all unpleasantness. Next, wipe the surface with your water to clean it of all negativity.
There are a variety of things you can do in magick with chosen items. I use candles, stones, Herb's and oils. I use these items because they can be obtained fairly easily. Candles can be located anywhere, they don't need to be anything special. Herb's can usually be found fresh or dried in a grocery store, or you can easily grow your own in pots on a window seal. Oils are usually in specialty shops and sometimes in natural food stores, or even in some department stores. Now stones are not as easily found. The best idea is to travel to areas where they are abundant and buy a lot. Some fairs or street vendors have decent prices, but specialty shops tend to be expensive. If you are unable to locate stones, leave them out of your spells. Missing an item will not affect the spell dramaticly. Something I can never stress enough is, the power of magick is only as powerful as the person performing the magick.
To work Magick, study the Laws and live by them. Knowing your craft is more important that performing it. Anyone can "pretend" to "cast a spell", that doesn't mean they are actually preforming "Magick." Pay attention, Wicca, Magick and the Pagan Religion is not a fad. It is not something you "join" to be cool. You can be a Pagan/Wiccan without performing Magick, but you can NOT perform Magick without the knowledge and beliefs of the Pagan Religion. Be aware of those who do not live by the guidelines of the Religion and practice Magick.
There are many good books at commercial bookstores, usually in the New Age, or Religion section. Select carefully, there are many useless and out right bad books too. Do your research, knowledge is power too. ( How many times have you heard that one?)
Now that you have your items, your surface clean and you know what spell you are about to perform, figure out where the items feel the most comfortable for you, and follow the spell you have choosen, or adapted. Have fun, if it doesn't feel right, or is uncomfortable, don't push on. Casting a spell isn't a chore. Explore other means and find what's right for you.
